About
Malakei Golf Club wanders through a colorful landscape of indigenous flora and fauna, providing a home to a variety of wildlife including peacocks, pheasants, and wild turkey. Situated in the Kona region of Hawaii, which is widely renowned for its coffee farms, the course offers dramatic elevation changes that range from 1,800 to 2,850 feet. The golf course plays through lush forests accented with lava tubes, cinder cones, and an ancient stone wall that dates back over a century. The fast bentgrass greens, rolling fairways, and cooler climate are reminiscent of a course in northern California but the stunning panoramic views will definitely remind you that you are in Hawaii. Malakei Golf Club's 15h hole is a signature hole thanks to its memorable scenery. It not only offers an incredible view of Maui's 10,000-foot Mount Haleakala, it is also your best chance for a hole in one.

Excellent Course
I’m a high handicap player so this was a pretty challenging course for me, but very fun. You are always hitting either uphill or downhill. The greens on the front nine were in excellent condition. The greens on the back nine were not quite as good but still playable. I would definitely play here again.
Surprisingly Unsatisfactory
We have played this course over many years and found it to be above average. However, this year the fairways, tee boxes and greens were in very poor condition. It would appear there is no maintenance taking place. No ball washers at all. I would not recommend not play here again.
Fun course, great staff, amazing wildlife
I really enjoyed playing the course and was definitely a good value bioked through GolfNow. The course is definitely not in great shape but greens are playable and the layout was a lot of fun I thought. The wildlife on the course was spectacular which would draw me back for another round. Lots of peacocks, turkeys, all sorts of birds. And the course was not that busy so I was able to take lots of time to watch the peacocks strut there stuff. Was overall a fun day on the course. The pro shop/starter staff were extremely friendly and welcoming as well
Muni like on the Big Island
Makakei needs some help as a course badly. No club house as they are in building permit purgatory. Temporary club house gets the job done. Temporary bathrooms by the main club house are excellent for what they are. Driving range is very meh but does includes some found balls in you bucket of range balls.
Overall, if you go in with knowing it’s going to be a 5-hr round with a bunch of driving between holes then you should have a great time. Also there are a ton of wild peacocks plus a few chickens just ranging around.
A lot like a goat ranch greens are infected with weeds , no ball wash or any signs for the hole no yardage posted . It’s like there’s no management,
Mountain gem
This is an amazing course. Very humble base station here about as humble as it gets but a great team and a truly remarkable golf course. Extremely memorable. Highly recommended
Theres enough vertical for a ski hill but holes are all well laid out. It’s a core course squared. Totally in nature. May get a little fog which makes it even more surrral. One of the very best golf experiences in the world.
