Malakei Golf Club wanders through a colorful landscape of indigenous flora and fauna, providing a home to a variety of wildlife including peacocks, pheasants, and wild turkey. Situated in the Kona region of Hawaii, which is widely renowned for its coffee farms, the course offers dramatic elevation changes that range from 1,800 to 2,850 feet. The golf course plays through lush forests accented with lava tubes, cinder cones, and an ancient stone wall that dates back over a century. The fast bentgrass greens, rolling fairways, and cooler climate are reminiscent of a course in northern California but the stunning panoramic views will definitely remind you that you are in Hawaii. Malakei Golf Club's 15h hole is a signature hole thanks to its memorable scenery. It not only offers an incredible view of Maui's 10,000-foot Mount Haleakala, it is also your best chance for a hole in one.

beautiful layout needs many things

This is one of the more interesting layouts around up in the cloud forest of Kona. First hole starts out about a mile from the clubhouse(a trailer). Visually very stimulating and hardly ever a flat lie. Greens roll great and are fast. Abundant wildlife on the course...peacocks, chickens, grouse, wild pigs ,saffron finches. That being said the rough is brutal. tough to locate your ball. The wild pigs have been tearing up areas around the course that essentially become added hazards and make it also hard to find the ball. There are absolutely no yardage markers on the entire course... not on the tees or fairways so if you don't have a rangefinder it is crazy hard to figure distances given the hilly nature of the course. Glad I played it..would not go back though unless these issues were addressed.

Cool mountain course

Lots of peacocks chickens and roosters roaming around. Unique course layout in mountain side ..plenty of steep . Greens were a bit long and slow.. 10 degrees cooler than Oceanside due to elevation.

Great layout and design, but the fairways and greens are mainly short cut weeds.

We paid $53 so a good value, but not worth anymore.

Nice course would give it a 5 star. If the greens were better in the back. I'd play it again...

Rained Out

Unfortunately I didn’t get to play as it was poring and when I tried to cancel I was within the one hour timeframe. Therefore I was unable to get a credit for round.

Jurassic course

This course has the longest cartpath I think in the world the first tea takes about 20 minutes to get up to on a golf cart. Lots of peacocks on course no turkeys and the course is decent for sure for 65 bucks in the afternoon you can’t beat it.

Playing the bird reserve.

We got out a Little earlier than our teatime. It had a slight rain when we started pretty much normal standard for up on the side of the mountain after the fourth hole weather was just perfect pretty easy slow pace. Had a great time.

Challenging and stunning scenery. AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE

We had no idea what to expect when we arrived and there was no clubhouse as a new one is being built but do not let this keep you from playing this amazing course. The elevation changes made it challenging, the course is gorgeous and there are stunning peacocks everywhere. A very unique and tough course. Eat before you go until the club house is finished but you won’t regret playing here.

Very Interesting Course

The course looks like it is in transition. The pro shop is in a container while they're rebuilding their clubhouse. So no amenities outside of golfing was available. I was lucky enough to get to play with one of the gentlemen who works there. And his knowledge of the course allowed me to have a better round greatly appreciated. Tough course if you don't hit the ball straight you're going to lose him. Up and down blind shots. If you want a tough course that has great views and a lot of animals to view this is it

If you love golf, Find another place to play.

After playing the course, I now see why all of the pictures include peacocks and not pictures of the holes. The birds are everywhere and they are quite beautiful, but the golf course is in terrible condition. I will say the greens on the front nine are fairly good But the lack of etiquette shown by those who play this course leaves it’s Mark everywhere on this property. If someone did spend the money to bring this course back into condition, it would be An extreme test. If you love birds. This is your place, but if you love golf, I would play a different course.
