Maui Nui Golf Club
About
The classic design of Maui Nui Golf Club combines different elements including reachable holes that face each cardinal point with strong prevailing winds that reward smart play for a layout that is both fair and challenging. The layout wanders through the foothills of Haleakula, providing subtle elevation changes as well as views of the ocean and the surrounding West Maui Mountains and the volcanic atoll Molokini. The golf course has a variety of holes that will have you hitting downwind, upwind, and with both left and right crosswinds. A few lakes and ponds also come into play. Maui Nui Golf Club's layout features generous fairways and large greens. The difficulty of the course depends heavily on the speed of the prevailing winds that day. Golfers will be greatly rewarded by keeping the ball in play and good putting and chipping skills.

Avoid, avoid, avoid
I played this course last October and vowed not to play it again unless conditions improved. Apparently I forgot my vow since I played it again. Staff was nice and course looks good from a distance, then you see the greens which are in horrible shape, some fairways not much better, #2 is still a temp Par 3, #13, which was a fun Par 5 is closed. I first played this course in 2015 and it is sad to see what it has become.
Mixed Bag
Friendliest staff imaginable Nice layout & good value. Nice scenery.
But greens were dreadful. Slow & bumpy.
But under 4 hours for the round.
Worst greens ever
One hole was shut down (#13, a good par 5) and a par 3 was substituted, making the course a par 69. Layout is wonderful and course length is challenging for any caliber of player. However, the bunkers have virtually no sand in them. But, even worse, the greens run approximately 2 on the Stimpmeter. Meaning, putting does not resemble any other greens you have ever played, except for, maybe a temporary green in a fairway. And, 2 on the stimpmeter might be generous. Ridiculous conditions for a good course. Perhaps they have no money to maintain the greens, but they should at least warn prospective customers of that fact. I used to play this in the past (starting about 25 years ago) and the greens were wonderful. If you are a serious golfer, find a different, and better, course to play.
Course need work
The course is in bad condition. It’s been in bad condition for a LONG time and it doesn’t look like they’re doing anything to change it. I golfed there after not golfing there for over a year and the course looks the same. It’s terrible. The rates are ‘cheap’ but it’s really bad. It’s unfortunate because I loved golfing there when it was good.
Greens are in poor shape
Course is under construction. Greens are in terrible shape (large patches of dead or missing). sand traps were mostly empty. The range was closed. The only saving grace for the course was the staff. The staff was fantastic! If you can get on the course for less than $50 bucks it's probably worth playing for some of the views (not the golf).
Slow Greens friendly staff
Overall for the price to play a round it was worth it compared to the resort style courses in the area. Everyone was super friendly and laid back. Pace of play was about 3:45 for 18 holes, which was very good. I’lll be back.
After twenty years
This was the “first” time playing the Maui Nui course since I moved from Maui twenty years ago when it had a different name. I didn’t recall much of the previous layout but it’s undergoing some changes.
I was disappointed with the condition of some of the greens that had been allowed to become dried out and burned. Like other courses I played on this visit, I found the greens to be very slow compared to the courses I play in the northwest mainland where I moved to.
As in other reviews I’ve read, there are hardly any tee box or directional signs. This maybe due to the renovations in progress and the very helpful GPS system on the carts.
Given the condition of the greens the $70+ rate seemed high.
Signage an Hole Placement
The course is nice and easy to get to and the staff is very friendly and help. The carts are up to date and include wireless speakers which is a great bonus which many courses on the mainland do not have. Unfortunately the course is currently under construction so many of the holes have temporary holes. If you use any form of GPS tracking system to track your game this is not picked up on your system. There are also no signs identifying holes which can make it a little difficult with the temporary holes in place.
Convenient Location
Needed more watering on course. One of the back par 5s were closed for upgrade and we were not told. Just outside of Kihei next to brewery
PLAY HERE
Amazing hidden GEM! This course is easy and hard at the same time, wide fairways and approachable greens! It’s a hidden gem and one of the best “in-land” golf courses on the island of Maui. Great place and value, snack bar has great selection to choose from and the very well stocked Pro Shop as well. The staff is ALWAYS SUPER FRIENDLY!
Nice course
Course was very fair. Greens were slow. Had some great views of the ocean.. staff were very friendly and helpful!!I look forward to playing here again.
What to expect
Super nice staff
Super slow fuzzy greens
Rerouted course

Like the course
Gayland the starter was great. Course needs to be watered more and physical upgrades are needed. At this time they had a par 5 closed for work and we had not been told this was the case
