About
The classic design of Maui Nui Golf Club combines different elements including reachable holes that face each cardinal point with strong prevailing winds that reward smart play for a layout that is both fair and challenging. The layout wanders through the foothills of Haleakula, providing subtle elevation changes as well as views of the ocean and the surrounding West Maui Mountains and the volcanic atoll Molokini. The golf course has a variety of holes that will have you hitting downwind, upwind, and with both left and right crosswinds. A few lakes and ponds also come into play. Maui Nui Golf Club's layout features generous fairways and large greens. The difficulty of the course depends heavily on the speed of the prevailing winds that day. Golfers will be greatly rewarded by keeping the ball in play and good putting and chipping skills.

Golfer Reviews
Enjoying Maui Nui!
Anytime you get to play golf on Maui, it's a privilege. I've played Maui Nui (formerly Elliear and originally Silversword) several times over the years. One thing that has been consistent is that the staff are helpful and very nice. The course is a good layout and you don't pay the high fees of the resort courses. That being said, the course maintenance has slipped significantly. Wasn't the consistency that I expect in Maui, but more along the lines of what I would expect at a Fort Worth municipal course. Maui Nui, you can do better than that!
Excellent value for fun course
We found a great deal on GolfNow for Maui Nui in Kihei, which I'll admit I'd never heard of before. The green fees included carts, and the rental clubs were new model Callaway. The course was in good condition, equal to other courses we'd played at this time of year, and the starter said they'd recently redesigned and refurbished some holes. The course was fun, challenging without being penal. We'll definitely have another round in the future.
Nice views grass not so much
Great course but the grass on the back 9 was not so friendly. The views were nice
Horrible Greens
We decided to a round there because Golf Now had a special rate and the course promotion video showed Maui Nui as a nice course. When we checked in, the staff were friendly and helpful. As soon as got to through the first few holes, we realized why GN had a special rate. The fairways appeared to have been neglected for sometimes with overgrown grasses. The greens were horrible and slow. Many greens were damaged with patched up dirt. Hole #9 was especially bad (picture). We were not sure if it was just our luck, but most of the players appeared to be beginners. The two groups in front of us were slow and often in the woods looking for their balls. The groups behind us were even worse. Overall, the course is not worth the time or money to play unless you are just a beginner and want to play just for the sake of playing.
Course Conditions
The pro shop personnel and the cart attendant was really nice. Bathrooms are updated and beautiful. The course was under construction and we had to play an altered hole. The greens were nice and firm. Pace of play was good. This was our 3rd time playing this course. The course was recently aerated, but was on the mend. Overall, it was a good value.
Can’t beat it for the price
Friendly people! Carts with GPS. Course layout interesting but not overly challenging. We would go back. The only concern is the speed of the greens! Glacial!
Back nine course should be closed
Nice course layout. Front 9 nice. Back nine denied out, dead trees everywhere. Course played fast due to not many people playing. Way too expensive for the course conditions. Nice new carts!
A Lovely Day at Maui Nui
This course never disappoints. Yesterday was my third time playing there and I had my best round ever. Now I was lucky and stayed out of trouble so that always helps. Pin placements were sometimes challenging but that makes you think and strategize.
I’m going back next week.
Price
We played Pukalani Country Club for $68 per person. This course charged $99 per person absolutely over charging the public
Slightly disappointed
I have played here many years now and it seems like this Golf course is always under construction, it doesn't make sense.
Avoid, avoid, avoid
I played this course last October and vowed not to play it again unless conditions improved. Apparently I forgot my vow since I played it again. Staff was nice and course looks good from a distance, then you see the greens which are in horrible shape, some fairways not much better, #2 is still a temp Par 3, #13, which was a fun Par 5 is closed. I first played this course in 2015 and it is sad to see what it has become.
Worst greens ever
One hole was shut down (#13, a good par 5) and a par 3 was substituted, making the course a par 69. Layout is wonderful and course length is challenging for any caliber of player. However, the bunkers have virtually no sand in them. But, even worse, the greens run approximately 2 on the Stimpmeter. Meaning, putting does not resemble any other greens you have ever played, except for, maybe a temporary green in a fairway. And, 2 on the stimpmeter might be generous. Ridiculous conditions for a good course. Perhaps they have no money to maintain the greens, but they should at least warn prospective customers of that fact. I used to play this in the past (starting about 25 years ago) and the greens were wonderful. If you are a serious golfer, find a different, and better, course to play.
