Golf Now stated tee time plus cart
When we arrived, the person checking you in at the clubhouse said that it was only a walking day since the course had experienced a good amount of rain the past week.
The only issue is we paid for a cart with GolfNow and the course couldn't give us a refund. I have NO clue how to get credit for this from GolfNow but totally deserve it.
Sportsman's East 9 - Nice Little North Shore Track!
The Good: Nice, little Edward Dearie Jr. design (a disciple of Donald Ross) in Northbrook, IL. One of the better 9-hole courses on the North Shore and a good peaceful stroll compared to the more challenging "Classic" 18-hole course. Good course conditions considering how rainy it was the Spring of 2019. Greens putted true but tended to be a little on the slow side. Good Par 3's! Very nice practice facilities with multiple short game areas perfect for junior practice.
The Bad: The Par 4's aren't overly interesting and seem to be all be straightaway / the same length. Sand traps are a little to be desired . The clubhouse and dining options are fairly rudimentary for a pretty pricey park district course.
The Verdict: While I typically feel that Sportsman's is on the expensive side for what you get, I was pleasantly surprised with the East course. It is playable, yet challenging enough to keep you thinking. Fun little course!
Best Hole: The short Par 3 8th is a tester despite it being a wedge. Two-tiered green can be demanding and back right pin location is just asking for trouble!

Put this course in your rotation
Good course but plain clubhouse a tad expensive for what it is but ok on GolfNow
Back After Many Yesrs
It has been a few years, many, since I have played here. Now remember why I liked it. Great staff, friendly from bag drop to heading for home. Course was in wonderful condition and allowed some long putts to drop. Starter and Marshalls very helpful and made sure we had lots of water. Public course that acts and feels private.
Heavy penalty for not hitting the fairways
The course is always in good condition and staff is friendly and accommodating. But after a heavy week of rain, the roughs were very thick and tall. They should have considered an extra mowing to make it fair to play. Lost lots of balls in the tall grass and struggled to get the ball back in play. The grass is mowed on Weds, so you may want to keep that in mind when booking a reservation.
Great par 9
First time playing at Sportsman and a great surprise.
Nice 9 hole course and in a good condition for this time of the year.
Not a lot of water in play, but challenging greens.
Will definitely come back in the summer.
Above average course
We booked this course last minute and were pleasantly surprised that the course of play was fast and the course in good conditions with some nice wild flowers. The course is relatively easy but has enough traps/water to make it interesting.
Nice place, fair value
Im not sure if it is always like this but it was pretty open on Saturday. Played 9 holes in about 1hr 45. Course and greens were in great shape and staff was helpful. This was my first itme here and I plan to return.
Good 9 hole course
Well run.
Course was better than many other 9 hole layouts.
Love this course
The one thing I like about this course as is it not a par three I think there's two par 3 , one for five and the rest are all par 4 .
Great course that can be played in 2 hours.
