Chevy Chase Country Club
About
Chevy Chase Country Club (formerly known as Traditions at Chevy Chase Country Club) in Wheeling is one of Chicagoland's top public golf facilities. Thomas Bendelow designed the golf course in 1925. The classic layout remained largely the same until 2002 when a major renovation updated the course and made it more challenging. The layout now has deep pot bunkers lined with tall native fescue that border the generous, rolling greens and undulating fairways. Though it is more challenging than it was, the golf course still offers a player-friendly round. Four sets of tees also ensure that golfers can play to their skill level. The course finishes with its signature hole, a par 5 that features water both left and right of the landing area off the tee. Three massive bunkers and yet another pond all fiercely guard the green as well.

Starter tried to kill us
Starter asked us to play early as 2 some. Then decides to send 2 gents with us. Not a problem, but we had tee’d off we were in the middle of the fairway and he told these 2 gents to hit into us. The is dangerous. We could gotten seriously hurt. He should have had them drove out and drop in fairway. NOT SAFE.
Pace of play was slow. 5 hour round. Course wasn’t that crowded. No ranger. Ball marks all over the greens. Tee box chewed up on spots. No one was particularly friendly or unfriendly.
145 bucks with carts. Not worth it. Only practice facility was putting green. Tiny pro shop.
Much better corses in the area
Love Chevy Chase golf course
My golf buddies and I love this course. It has multiple tee boxes so players can play the tips or move up to tees that fit your game. There are times it can get a little slow on the course but not often. Greens are in great shape and roll nice. They do not have a range and sadly they took out the outside net they used to have to warm up. But I large putting and chipping green. Give it a try you won’t be sorry.
I teed off early
By far the best starter in the business. Friendly and helpful, I need to get you on your way; it doesn't get any better than that.
Great value
The course was in great condition and great value for the dollar
Very Impressed
Course was in great condition… better than the semi private club I normally play. Very fair and forgiving course. I will definitely come back again.
Great time with friends
It was a beautiful day and the course was in excellent shape. It all started with the staff and they are super welcoming. I can't say enough about my round but thank you!!!
Tasteful upgrades
Golf course was in really good condition. Greens rolled smooth and were pretty quick. Traps had a decent amount of sand in them and were fair to play from. Tee boxes were 50/50.
Course design is alright. Some challenging holes some with oddly placed hazards. Still very tight on the back nine hole to hole. Should be wearing a hard hat if you are golfing on a Sunday. Everyone raved about the price but I thought 85 with no driving range and a putting green the size of a backyard set up was a bit of a reach.
All in all I’d go back will just warm up at a different facility before hand.
Nice Course Little Expensive
Pretty nice course. Some good holes. Paid $80 and drove an hour to play. I wouldn’t do that again. If I live near the course and could get a deal, it would be worth it.
Chevy Chase
Nice course. Not one I would drive an hour to play again. Very playable . No range. Not a great value but not a rip off at all.
Why can’t every muni be this nice!!
There are half a dozen really good holes. Another ~4 very challenging holes. The other 8 holes are kind of pedestrian. That being said this course is a strong value andI maintained better than Old Orchard, BG, Heritage Oaks, Arboretum, Mt Prospect, Palatine Hills, etc. Makes you wonder why more courses can’t figure out the recipe! Turfgrass is amazing. Fairways are firm, but very playable. They are definitely treating the rough areas, which some courses seem to have abandoned. Greens were decent and the bunkers had plenty of sand.
Not a ton of intimidating shots or signature holes, but they are doing things right at Chevy Chase
Overall nice course
This is a good course for the price. Fairways are nice, tees could use a little work and too many darn people don’t fix their ball marks in the green!
Love This Course!
Everything about this place, I like. I wish this could be my home course. The entire facility is SO well maintained, you know everyone there works hard to make it that way. Only complaint is about people not fixing their landing marks on the green. I LOVE THE ELECTRIC CARTS!! With the great electronic display for yardage, hole layout and the green slope reading, they are the BEST I have ever used! Keep up the great work everyone!
Pleasantly surprised!
Course was in great shape. Beautiful first tee box as pictured. Nice fairways, nice rough, nice greens. No complaints
Add this course to your rotation
I will be adding Chevy Chase to our course rotation.
We play a lot of courses around Chicago and suburbs. Most of the courses we play are getting over the $110-120 range.
Chevy Chase is a great value for a fun layout and great course conditions. Friendly staff.
The whole foursome talked about coming back soon.
