Best Public Coarse ever played!
Outstanding coarse in pristine condition! Challenging, but fair. Need to hit the ball straight. Would not recommend this coarse for beginners. Truly had a great day playing a GREAT coarse. A great value for the money.
Exceptional Course
I am from Hawaii and have played some of the best courses in the country. Aldeen is an fantastic course and exceptional value.
Need to be straight off the tee. Par 3's are relatively easy. Greens are challenging. Pace of play was very good--finished the round in less than 3.5 hours which was a record for me for a course around Chicago on a weekend.
Overall highly recommended.
Great course
I played the course for the first time on a Friday afternoon. We were late for our tee time due to traffic, but we still got out within 30 minutes of arriving. It's a beautiful, challenging course, and a great price for the quality. Staff was very friendly and I look forward to going back many more times.
Pace of play
Needs to have marshalls on duty. Unfortunately we caught up behind a 4 some that had no etiquette training by any of their mothers. There was no one in front of them and they never offered to let a 2 some play thru. We caught them on the 2nd hole and suffered the rest of the round. A young father and his young son had sense enough to go around and skip them but we had never played the course so we suffered. Great layout, just needs better course attention to play.
Very nice course
Played the course once before early in the year and it was nice then. Now playing it in the summer, when everything has grown in, it is even better. Great course and can run into some great deals pricewise, now and then.
Don't miss this on
I can not believe this course is a municipal. It is in great shape every time I fly in from NY to visit my wife's family. I would think a muni would be wide open with slow greens to make play easy and fast. Not here folks. This is the kind of course my friends an I pay big bucks for when we head down south. Don't miss this if you're in the Rockford Ill area. Use GolfNow and you can save yourself $12-$15 .
Outstanding value for the cost!
One of the best Public courses that we have played! Took out of state family visitors from the New York area, they were truly amazed we had a course this beautiful and challenging in the Midwest. Will definitely play this course many many times.
Best Course I have played.
I have not been playing golf very long, but one thing I have learned that makes a difference for whether I like a course or not is that it has to be a nice walk/ride. Aldeen is BEST course I have played. I played with my brother and the course was absolutely pristine (and that was after the course had received a lot of rain for a few days prior). My brother and I has got stuck behind a 2-some of older gentlemen that stood over their putts FOREVER and their pace of play was extremely SLOW. Even with that, my brother and I could not have been happier. We got a great price on GolfNow.com and were extremely impressed with the course. The course had multiple tee boxes (if all of them were used I believe it was 4 or 5) and was challenging for my brother who is an advanced player but also enjoyable for someone like myself who is a relative beginner. I would recommend this course to anyone.
Awesome
I had played it once in the rain a long time ago and enjoyed it then, but when I played recently in nice weather, it was even more amazing. There's a great mix of hard and not-so-hard holes, and it's very picturesque. I would feel there are 2 signature holes... #8 and #18. 8 is an island hole, and I was thrilled to be able to play to the back left pin on 18. What an experience!
Country Club feel without country club pricing!
Fantastic course! Some holes short, some long, nearly all very narrow but the rough was very forgiving. A beast of a hole on 18 (take three irons for this short par 5) and a picturesque landscape with cart paths meandering in and around the surround woodlands. The greens rolled true and quicker than most (10-10.5 I'd guess) and the fairways and sand traps were immaculate. The only downside was a limited GPS system but if you bring your own or use an app you'll find all the yardage you need. Love this course and even with construction on 90 it's well worth the trip out there to play!
Aldeen Impresses every step of the way!!!
I can't believe I've been golfing in the northwest area of IL for this long, and never gave this course a try until a few weeks ago. This place was amazing, and it's no surprise I found out that they use it as a qualifying course in the area for the US Open. The meticulous upkeep of the course is seen on every tee box to every green. The greens run true and make you feel like you're playing on a $150 per round resort course. The fact that Golf Digest has rated this one of the top courses in the nation for under $50 green fees is no surprise. In fact, forget the $50, I've played courses that were $100+ that didn't measure up to Aldeen. Rockford park district has really done an excellent job with this course, and I will definitely be back with the great rates that are posted. With 5-6 tee selections, my wife felt very comfortable playing as well, and we had a blast!
Best I'v seen it look in years, Getting it ready for state tourney.
If ya gotta be in the sand, these are the ones to be in. Major redo'd on most of traps last summer and again this year. Fairways in best shape I've seen in years. If only every golfer would take care of the course and repair their ball marks, divots, and rake the traps like they should is why I rate 4 star instead of 5. No enforcement like they used to do.
It's a great layout and challenge for all levels of play.
It was unfortunate that on a Friday morning when our foursome played that there was maintenance crew all over the course. They were raking sand-traps and spraying fertilizer on the tee-boxes. They were not very respectful to the golfer as they walked in front of our tee shots on multiple occassions as if we were not even on the course. I understand maintenance needs to be done but it should be reserved for Monday - Thursday. The crew distractions definitely took away from beauty of this course on this day. We only make it out there once a year since it's well over an hour away so it was a bit frustrating. However, the course has a great layout. Each hole is unique with a moderate challenge. The greens were spectacular and well maintained. They rolled true and were in great condition. If you can make it out there to play it, I would recommend it. If you find the right deal on Golfnow, you can play this course for close to $25 and that will include a cart and range balls. This makes the course even more attractive.
Great course and challenging
Course was in excellent shape. Play was easy going with no
Hurrying. Greens were fast but not
PGA fast. People working were nice
And helpful. I would recommend this course
To anyone.
Beautiful layout - tough but fair
The greens at Aldeen roll true. The pin placements were not tough on this day, so go for it. The rough is punishing. Bunkers were manicured nicely. Play this course now - in a few years when the trees on 10, 11, and 14 mature, this is going to play tougher.
Aldeen is one of the nicest public golf courses
Aldeen is one of the nicest public
golf courses I've ever played.
A great golf experience that has all types of challenging and rewarding holes. We played in the late fall and even then the greens were quick.
The course will be a site for a U. S. open qualifier in 2014 and they are working hard at dollying it up to be worthy of such an honor. Tee boxes from the back offer a great challenge for low handicappers and us regular golfers can play the one ups with good challenges and lots of fun golf.
Super course
Course was in phenomenal shape. . .like a postcard. Great price. . .was a little too late on the Hot Deal price, which was even better.
absolutely loved it
I had heard so much about this course but living in Cook County, I couldn't see driving 1 1/2 hrs, to play it. It is extraordinary with every hole not only memorable but has been stated all the obstacles are right in front of you, nothing tricked up with a great assortment of 3, 4 and 5 pars. Also there are only 2 holes that border a street so the course is extremely quiet as well.
Good Experience
Nice layout, Greens were recently aerated but still rolled somewhat true
