No Water ! No Coolers ! No Drink Cart !
The course and practice facilities were nice . Free practice balls at their range . Had to hit off of Mats which sucks , but can understand when ground under repair . It was 85-90 degrees out and there was no water on the course for players . I saw two water fountains that were not turned on . The outside “bistro “ closes at 3pm ... 3pm!!! Make sure you are well hydrated and eat before bc this course , although nicely maintained , I became extremely aggravated when I ran through 4 bottles of water a Gatorade ... still needed more fluids , yet there is no cooler or drink cart in sight .... we skipped hole 9 bc of dehydration ...
Very nice course
Great course. Great conditions. Surprising that it feels like you are in nature even though it is in a community. Greens were excellent. Interesting. Challenging but won't beat you up. I played awfully that day, but still enjoyed the course. I understand it had been private but now you can get on via golfnow. Looking forward to playing it again. NOTE: You have to get in on 59 and GPS didn't understand that.
Nice layout
Great course, private, and usually 2 expensive as a guest but we had a deal minus $25 from a previous promo at golfnow. The layout n course condition is outstanding. There was nothing available in the way of food but I brought my own anyway. Enjoyed the course thoroughly.
HIdden gem
Was private, now available to public. Pretty layout and seems underplayed. Tight course but not a lot of OB penalty areas. Fun place to play with some challenging golf course and nice variety of hole layouts.
Challenging Course
Large fairways, change of pin locations and great for novice and advid player. Highly recommend
Lake Barrington Shores
the front desk - the gentleman worked with us, accessed the players and let us out early, We even played an extra nine and he was more than reasonable. I'd play it tomorrow if I wasn't working - shot makers....risk or return course....You'll love it!
Lake Barrington Shores CC - Interesting Newly Semi-Private Parkland Track
The Good: Historically a members-only private club, Lake Barrington Shores is now taking public tee times online and is another solid parkland course in the northwest Chicago burbs. Course conditions are very good in this tight, tree engulfed Edward L. Packard design. Fun variety in Par 4's and some very long, challenging Par 5's. Greens are very large for a shorter course, putting true and sneaky fast. Pace of play is excellent, especially during weekday twilight hours. Clubhouse is quaint but does have a nice bar area to enjoy a brewksie after the round. Good value for a well-conditioned private course.
The Bad: Amenities are lacking with very limited pro shop and no GPS. Very poorly marked so you better have a rangefinder. Too many blind shots for my taste and there are hidden traps and waters hazards. Several holes have overhanging trees that desperately need some trimmers. Staff seems fairly disinterested in player experience, especially if not a regular member.
The Verdict: Lake Barrington Shores is a very fun course, especially once you play it for the first time and learn some of its quirks and get past lack of upscale experience. Hopefully remains semi-private and only gets better.
Best Hole: The long Par 4 5th is a demonic hole. The drive must be on the right side of the fairway, otherwise you're blocked out by a huge tree with a long iron/hybrid approach.
Amazing Course
Highly recommend this course for the price of 9 with cart. Have played both the front and back 9 within the last week and can’t wait to go back.
Solid private course
Excellent condition. Nice mix of holes. Big greens. Much more elevation change than expected. Holes nicely framed. Fun to play. Pace outstanding but it was late October on a private course. Bad driving range mats only but does have a short game practice arrea.
Mixed Feelings
Was my 2nd time playing this course this year. The greens are receptive and quick. Fairways decent though several had grass clippings. Tee boxes good. Poorly marked...few if any sprinkler heads to be found with yardage...only the 200, 150 and 100 markers in the fairway. Bunkers were bad...thin lies. Ascetically there are many dead trees that need to be removed. I played for $45 and that was a fair price. No beverage cart or water stations were available for some reason.
Nice place...good greens
Course was great. Staff was nice. No cart girl on a Thursday. Outdoor grill not open either. A little confusing finding the pro shop. (Its downstairs to the left.)
The 5th hole is a 200 yard par 3, not a par 4.
Brian - I played here a few times when it was private with a member. Agree it's average at best and nothing spectacular. It's a $30-$35 course and frankly not all that entirely interesting. Could never envision being a member of the place and no surprise they've had to open for some limited public play. Just drive by it and play Foxford or Chalet much cheaper and both are much better courses.
