Settler's Hill Golf Course
About
Settler's Hill Golf Course sprawls across a diverse landscape that ranges from windswept highlands to mature woodlands. The course actually sits on the site of a former landfill but you would never be able to tell with its rolling topography that has become its signature characteristic. When playing, you'll be transported from the Scottish highlands to the forests of northern Michigan without even having to leave Chicagoland. Links-style and parkland holes are interspersed with water to create a test of your skills you won't soon forget. The greens have their interesting quirks and they are framed with deep bunkers and the rolling fairways demand accuracy. Besides the challenging round and affordable rates, Settler's Hill Golf Course's west-central location in Batavia near the Fox River also makes it a popular choice for meeting friends for a round.

Typical pin/cup and green condition Photo submitted by Morgan2861 on 09/14/2016
Really like the layout of the course.
First, to be able to play on 11/17 in the Chicago area is a wonderful thing. Was very pleased with the conditions of the course, fairways and greens. Also nice that tall stuff in rough was cut down so you it was easier to find errant shots! Some of the sand traps could have been better but not supposed to be in there anyway. All in all this was a good value for a nice track to play.
Layout--Check
I've said it time and time again the layout of this course is primarily the only reason that I play here. The greens are in better condition that years past but the cup cuts are still jagged, prepare to stick in the back of the cup since rolling in from the side is nearly non-existent. I'd compare the greens to Glendale Lakes. The tee boxes themselves were in poor condition, but this is nothing new to me, just remember to tee it up a little bit on the par threes or you will be picking up sand. Overall, if your paying $25 or less for this course than it is manageable.
Challenging
The elevation changes give this course an above average difficulty. Definitely a nice change of pace from the normal links stye course in IL. I would recommend everyone to play here at least once.
Cart path only no pace
If your idea of a golf odyssey is playing a 6 hour round stuck behind mr and mrs havikamp times two then this is your place
Great course, layout is another plus, it's beautiful.
Settler's Hill golf course is great, speed of play was really good (we played in under 3 1/2 hours). You can not beat the price that was given through Golfnow and we will definately book this course again.
Great layout, but poor conditions
I love the layout of the course and the different types of holes throughout, but honestly, the course still hasn't recovered from the construction work that was done in the Spring. There are still workers scattered about, dead patches of fairway, a temp tee with no mention of new distances to hazards. I hate to give it a bad rap, but it should have remained closed for the season to recover properly.
