Lazy golf day traveled to Chatham IL
This course has changed hands over the last few years. The atmosphere in the Pro Shop and Snack Bar seemed to be we don't know you so why talk.
I was looking for a new putter but neither of the pro shop workers seemed to want to talk. Now to be honest I could have spoke up but I am the customer, not going chase a sale. Went by Shields on way home found a putter so alls good
Snack bar we had to look for the staff and then the items were very ordinary, as in selections of beer. Last time we played they had a variety but this was limited today. Mostly domesticated beer without an alternative choice like Reds Apple (they advertise it) but non found. Menu had few items still listed the staff says they don't sell any longer. Might I suggest changing the list
And what course in this world does not accept Anerican Express, well I will tell you Piper Glenn does not This is a disappointment for it was accepted my last time I played. But hey there choice but my list is short for no AMX. Sad for used like coming over here to play.
For those who care I have played from Bali to The Middle East and all over the Carribeane, AMX was always accepted, as you can tell I am partial to my Points Card.
The greens, tee boxes, fair ways were in excellent shape, the sand traps were little water logged so you don't get true flight onto the green. This was my only complaint.
Hot dogs and burgers were also above average.
This is a challenging course with water and woods all over the place.. Narrow fairways in few spots, challenging pin locations contributed to my loss of many golf balls. Maybe I can learn to stay on the fairway but not likely.
They don’t move tees or pins & allowed 5 some w very slow play
Underwater pin! Avoid this course until better managed.
Always a fun time
I’ve played this course a handful of times over the years and it never disappoints! Course conditions are the best of the best when it comes to a public course. Try and score early and often on the front 9 bc the back 9 humbles you right away! I will be back!
Wait till better managed or play Panther Creek
Very slow pace, even though required cart path only due to rain. Did NOT move pins or tees. One pin under water. Tee boxes ripped up. Allowed 5-some and slow foursome play. Nearly five hour round. Save your money. Better spent at Panther Creek. No attention to course management and an ineffective ranger.
Poor pace of play and tee boxes
Pace of play was terrible. When i reached the 8th tee….4 groups were waiting to hit….. whether male or female golfers that are that slow… they need to let others play thru…however they would not entertain the idea
Course was rough…tee boxes so hard and beat up i was almost unable to get the tee in the ground. Greens were good but extremely short and fast. No trimming done around trees, etc.
During my time of play, i saw 2 workers carts each with 2 workers. They literally drove around the course and went from shaded area to shaded area and did no work on the course
Needs work
Course needs attention. Tee boxes were almost bare and rock hard. Could barely get my tee into the ground on most. Sand rock hard….. trimming around bushes etc is non happening. Greens soft but too short…. Speed of play was poor…. Got to 8th tee and had 4 groups waiting to tee off????
Disappointing Experience
I’ve golfed this course numerous times, but this was the worst experience I’ve had by far. There was clearly an outing over the weekend, and the tee boxes were tore up, and the greens were in terrible shape. The tee box markers should have been moved and the cup placement on the greens, and it was over 90 degrees without any water coolers on the course (never seen that here). It was a disappointing experience for the normally outstanding venue.
Piper Glen just down the road
Beautiful march day to play. Got there early and was able to tee off early. Unfortunately got behind a very rude single player and then 3 very slow women….. would not let anyone play thru. Course needs spring work up and people need to fix their ball marks and keep carts away from the green….
Unpretentious state capital gem
You gotta love a course that gives you multiple tee boxes to choose from and either way you'll find challenging, fair shot selections. Course was in excellent shape considering it's still winter with carts out. Kudos to the golf course superintendent.
They had no record of my booking on Golf Now. We paid $30. (Rack rate) instead of $22. that I booked on Golf Now. First time this has happened to me. So it cost me $40. to play after paying then $10. booking fee.
Traps not good
Starting to slip again. It’s a shame. Was on a steady improvement over the past 3 years. Greens still in great shape but they have neglected the traps. The water does not drain and they are not raked.
