Blackberry Oaks Golf Club
About
Blackberry Oaks in Bristol is a public golf course that has been recognized as one of the Chicagoland area's best courses. The course design utilizes the natural beauty and hazards of the landscape including the native wetlands, grassy prairies, and towering stands of mature oaks. Blackberry Creek also meanders through the course. In addition to the natural hazards, a heavy smattering of strategically placed bunkers was also incorporated into the design. Although it can seem intimidating, the golf course isn't overly formidable if you can manage to stay out of the sand and water. The third and 12th holes are two par 4s that are memorable for their water hazards. The third has a lake along either side and the 12th has a green that is almost entirely surrounded by water.

Nice course...
challenging holes, nice pace of play, nice restaurant
Lots of Potential -
Played Sunday; no starter; but got off a little early; this is a short course; claims to be 6400 from the tips, I'd guess closer to 6200. lots of Driver short iron shots. They have some interesting holes, plenty of water, but it's not "too much". Bunker Sand was nice, fairway sand a little pebbly. Greens are sluggish and generally flat. The rough was thick in spots. I had played a few years back and remember it being in a little better shape. amazingly fast for a sunday afternoon, but that had nothing to do with Rangers, but possibly they aren't staking em up off the tee. I enjoyed the day and played with less experienced golfers that thought it was a fun track. Keep your expectations down and you will have fun.
This course is challenging but can be played by the average golfer. Great finishing hole!!!
Great course for the money!!! The practice facility is decent, but could use a larger practice area. The course was in great shape. Greens played true and the fairways looked well kept. Water played a factor in several holes including hole number 4 with the green partly surrounded by water. My favorite hole was the 18th, which was a dog-leg to the left and played 387 yards from the back tees. The 18th green was surrounded by a creek with a challenging approach shot to the green.
tough course from the tips, with fair amount of water
I hadn't played this course in a # of years and their ability to handle the recent wet weather has improved greatly. Pace was good on a Sat afternoon. Course requires some thought rather than bombing it off the T.
Challenging course in a peaceful setting
Fairly wide fairways & best to hit them. Probably the toughest rough I have been in, you could break your wrist getting out of the short stuff. A couple of nice holes with large bunkers fronting the green to test your short game. Greens in really nice shape, nice course.
nice course
great value using "hot deals" on golf now. Fun course. My only complaint is the greens could have been a little faster.
Solid course in great condition
The course is in great condition and very well maintained. Blackberry has a mix of short and long par 3's, dog legs, and a few reachable par 5's in 2. I would definitely go back to this course in the future.
Great course and quite challenging.
It was a little soggy, but expected from all of the rain we have had. I really enjoyed the pace we were able to play at because the course was not overbooked.
course is challenging but fair.
this course has a very nice layout with challenging holes but plenty of room for semi= wayward shots. greens are quick with very subtle breaks. nothing but fun!
Great course for intermediate players
Most par 4's are short and easy to make par. Par 3's are somewhat challenging and fun to play. Overall, course is very playable and in pristine condition.
Value and a true test
This is a favorite course. Value beauty and toughness are all available here.
nice course thats pretty forgiving overall. no bad holes.
No complaints at all. Well maintained, played fast.
Great Course
Great course that is challenging and beautiful. There is a creek that winds through the course nicely and comes into play on many of the holes. Course is in great shape and would definitely play it again and suggest to a friend.
the course was very good and had a good view.
The course was good but there was some dangerous situation. The distance beteen the hall is too close in some halsl so players could be hit by a ball. And the speed of playing was so loose and slow that the thythem of players were ruined. In this sense ,I don't feel like playing again.
I think the marshal had to control the speed of playing . For example, I had to wait 10 minutes or so to hit a ball because the front team players so slow. That made me crazy.
Narrow fairways and heavy rough make this short track challenging
While most holes are shorter than average par 4's and 5's the placements of bunkers, rivers/lakes and the narrowness of almost every fairway make this a challenge. Stay in the fairway or find yourself in thick rough. Recovery is difficult but when you stay in the fairway the holes become simple. If you have a slice or hook don't play this course seriously. Gotta be straight to have the most fun here!
This course is well maintained considering the time of year.
Although the course is not very long, it is well laid. On most of the par for holes, the distances left me in between clubs on the second shot as well as the tees on the par 3 holes. The fairways are very well manicure. Not too many trees and fairways are wide enough. Price is a little high compared to other simular courses I played by around $7.
Challenging from the Blues
When I first played the course, I played from the white tees, and it was easy to score well. From the blues, it's a different story. This is very challenging and you have to keep your focus. IT's early Spring and the rate was $23 with cart for 18 holes. Not too bad. The bunkers need work, and they didn't have rakes out yet. Overall, the course was in pretty good shape. Pace of play was good, but funny how everyone on the course seemed to apologize to each other for playing slow. 3 1/2 hours isn't bad for a nice April Friday afternoon.
A good course has been ruined
This course was once a solid place to play; challenging for most levels, friendly staff, an interesting layout and consistently good conditioning. But a baffling refusal to manage the pace of play, a lack of maintenance that I assume is the result of ill-advised discounting of greens fees have left it a shambles. On weekend afternoons you naturally expect things to slow a bit, but it has become virtually unplayable as a result of slow groups and the total absence of a ranger. My last round ended after 9, since I didn't want to spend the same amount of time on the back as I had on the front: 3 hours. What's happened at Blackberry Oaks is a cautionary tale for other popular public courses trying to boost revenue by ditching "extras" like rangers, staffing the weekends with bored teenagers, and jamming as many discounted foursomes (or more-- I saw 6 in a group earlier this summer) onto the course as possible.
