Tricky 9
Excellent 9 hole course. Played in late fall so the greens were excessively hard. Good layout for this yardage.
Pricey but good place to work on things.
9 holes for almost $40 in late September is a little ridiculous, but I knew what to expect having played there several times. Fairways and greens were in good shape, but pretty rough in the rough and around the greens. Just par 3s and 4s fyi.
Rough Shape & No Pace of Play
Title says it all. Fairways were barely trimmed, greens had weird fluff spots on them from being missed when mowed. Pace of play was not good and no sign of ranger to keep people going. Probably first and last time I play here.
Slow pace of play
Had a 6:10 tee time, trying to get 9 holes in before sundown. There was a group of 2 older ladies and one gentleman. Took them about 15-20 min a hole. They were never waiting due to a group in front of them. Every time they hit, they’d spend 5-7 minutes looking for the ball. I’m not a good golfer by any stretch of the imagination, so if I’m double and triple bogeying every hole and I’m still on your heels, you’re playing too slow lol. Someone did come out and tell them to pick up the pace, but they still played the same speed.
Better 9-hole courses nearby for similar price
My experience at Vernon Hills Golf Club was pretty decent. The staff was friendly and the course layout was okay, hole 7 is a really fun par 3. Course conditions were mediocre but many holes get repetitive. Water hazards were about the only challenging thing about this course. Overall there are better courses for similar, or cheaper prices nearby.
As good as a municipal 9 hole course can be.
A couple of holes you can use your driver on. Good strategically placed hazards make for some challenging par fours where iron play is rewarded.
