White Deer Run Golf Course
About
Situated on the Cuneo Estate in Vernon Hills, White Deer Run Golf Club has a beautiful landscape dotted with sparkling lakes. The rolling terrain provides plenty of elevation changes, meaning there are some uneven lies and the occasional blind shot in store for you. There are not many trees but numerous bunkers lurk beside the greens and, of course, water is a pretty prominent presence throughout the golf course. Due to the plentiful and strategically placed hazards, the course puts a premium on accuracy. The layout is challenging but fair and it is also player friendly enough for beginners, offering ample room off of the tees. White Deer Run Golf Club's design contributes greatly to the course's playability, but that is also partly due to the immaculately manicured fairways and fast, well conditioned greens.

Really enjoyed this course.
Went out on a GolfNow deal. Really enjoyed the layout of the course. Tee boxes were in great shape and the bunkers were playable. Great, challenging track.
I only wish that all the people out there who can regularly afford $100/round for golf would figure out what those little $4 divot repair tools are used for because I’m pretty sure most people out here are using them to check for earwax instead of fixing the ball marks they leave on the green.
NEVER AGAIN!
AGAIN, I could not have been more disappointed in the Ranger on the golf course!! Finished 18 in four hours, well in front of the group behind, and just behind the group ahead, BUT THE RANGER CONSTANTLY lingering around telling us to play faster. This is not the first time this has happened, so assuming the direction comes from the Pro / GM. I don't need to pay $100, play in 4 hours, just to have the Ranger make us miserable. There will be no next time, I'm finished playing here!
White Deer is Just Beautiful
I've played White Deer Run many times and have played some of my best rounds there. It was in great shape and I have always thought it is one of the most beautiful courses in Chicagoland. Saturday was no exception.
The only negative this time around was that the pace of play was pretty slow. This is one of the first times I have played it one the weekend and maybe that was the difference. Overall, great experience.
Overrated
More power to this course if they can fill their tee sheets charging well north of $100. The greens were in good shape but the fairways were full of unfilled divots. The bunkers were covered in foot prints as the course decided to put the rakes in the carts leading to a lot of golfers to forget it and then not rake. The cart paths were in terrible condition. I played this course 5 years ago and enjoyed it immensely while paying over $100. I enjoyed the layout and was looking forward to a nice round. The conditions during this round were disappointing.
Fairways and bunkers in great condition. Greens were good, rolled well. However lots and lots of non-repaired ball marks on pretty much every green.
Great course!
Enjoyed playing the course today. Course is in good condition. Challenging course that uses visual creativity that makes you think about each shot and how yo play it. Greens were normal speed, rough was easy to hit out of and bunkers were in perfect condition.
Nice course but could use some upgrades
Very nice - and tough - course. Great layout and setting.
Many of the cart paths were in terrible shape - need to be repaired. The course has a million sand traps - I found many of them and they were all hard and gritty despite no recent rain. Several of the greens were full of ball marks - wish everyone would fix one ball mark on every green, whether they made one or not. Carts had GPS with too tight "shutoff" zones - constantly beeping - just annoying. All in all a good course, but not worth $100+ to play (glad we found a deal).
ridiculous cart restrictions
I rarely leave reviews but the cart restrictions were excessive
No restrictions like 90 degree or cart path only were given. However, the carts with a working GPS would just stop and require you to go into reverse the entire way to get back. this despite none of the areas I'm talking about being marked as a restricted area. The other cart in my group had a GPS that was not working so they did not have this issue. Rakes on the carts are a stupid idea as well. Had it not been a "hot Deal" not a chance I would've paid the normal rate.
Need More Sand in those traps.
So the course was in great shape with the exception of the bunkers - and there is a LOT of bunkering on this course. I was in three different greenside bunkers and one fairway bunker and with the exception of 1, each only had maybe 1/2 inch of sand with hard pack under. Based on the cost of playing here vs. some other courses of similar caliber. (Blackstone, Foxford Hills, Stonewall Orchard) in the NW suburbs of Chicago, these were below average for bunker sand.
July 4th
One of my favorite courses, but the cart paths are in serious need of repairs. Potholes and chunks of missing asphalt lead to an unpleasant bumpy ride throughout the round.
Nice layout, horrendous cartpaths
Beautiful layout and property. Greens and fairways very good. Bunkers poor. Cartpaths are a nightmare. Get slammed around constantly.
Great track to play
Fun course, we played it last year, but got rained out on the last few holes. Driving range to warmup, putting greens to practice. Set in a very nice part of town with some huge houses.
Course is in great shape, it is challenging the first few times because you do not know the layout. A couple of places that you can get in trouble if you don't know the course. Only issue was the hole 13, there is bunch of construction to the left, looks like they are building a park or something, so this hole has work being done.
