Far Oaks Golf Club
About
Far Oaks Golf Club in Caseyville has a unique layout with a front nine that is designed in a Scottish-links style and a back nine that plays through rolling woodlands. The links holes are framed with native prairie grasses and wildflowers while mature oak trees line the fairways on the back nine. There are plenty of elevation changes throughout the golf course, making it hard to find a flat lie. Mounding and strategically placed bunkers lurk treacherously along the greensides and there are also several holes with water. Far Oaks Golf Club is a challenging course that demands accuracy, which is most apparent on the 10th hole. Although it's not the longest par 4 on the course, it is still challenging thanks to a slew of bunkers that border both sides of the green.

Great course great scenery
At the course the facilities were super nice and the field of play as well. We were rushed to the tee box when our tree time was not for another 10 min. At the tee box the starter was really rude and was commented by others waiting to let the boys play and shut up. He was very aggressive and smoked a large cigar blowing it towards our cart as we drove by. At the end of the best round the same man told us to speed it up when we were behind a senior group that took almost 20-30 min a hole. He was yet again aggressive and very rude to me and the group we were with. At the need of the round he apologized for his behavior but by this point was a little dissatisfied with customer service. I would Recommend the course for play but be warned of some staff at the course.
Nice course
In town for the weekend and selected Far Oaks based on reviews/proximity. Nice little course with really nice bunkers/greens. Some of the tee boxes were pretty chewed up but the course itself was in nice shape. I moved up to men’s forward/whites to play with the guys they paired me with and found the course very easy to navigate. Lots of 4 irons from the tee and honestly, you don’t really need to hit driver on any hole. Very enjoyable round.
Far Oaks was amazing.
The course is in excellent condition. The greens roll
fast and true. Looking forward to playing it again.
Far Oaks as enjoyable and reliable as they come
Far Oaks has always been 1 of the best in greater St. Louis, and certainly worth the trip to the iL side. 2021 is no exception, tee to green Far Oaks is in excellent condition. Greens roll true and fast, only critique would be the bunkers that need some work. When you think about the best on the IL side- Annbriar, Gateway, Spencer T Olin, Lockhaven, Belk Park, Stonewolf.... Far Oaks is right there among all of them. Fantastic clubhouse and Bar/Grill. Definitely will be back a bunch this year.
Absolutely loved the design by Goalby. Each hole had its own character. Pace of play slowed down after first nine but overall I think it’s right up there with Annbriar and is now one of my favorite course I’ve played.
The greens have a lot of undulations which I like and were rolling true.
Sand traps were good except for a couple.
Good value for the money!
Staff was great! Course was in great shape!
You can see a number of improvements being made on the property and the course.
Disappointed
I couldn’t get to my tee time due to my car not starting, so I called to see if I can change the date. The pro shop guy told me there’s nothing they can do. Ik that’s BS because I worked at a pro shop before and if you want to keep your customers happy, changing the time once a while is not a big deal at all. Just disappointed that’s I couldn’t play the course.
Great day of golf
The course is in great shape and the pace was good, all in all, just what you come to find at Far Oaks. Great course.
Nice Course
Course was in good shape. Greens were a little inconsistent in speed. They're working on some drainage areas, but most of the course was very playable. Will be back.
Overpriced With Contruction Projects Underway. Other Issues Too.
They have a note on each cart telling you "please excuse off-season construction projects...improving drainage and some bunkers...should be completed by mid-April (weather permitting)". I'm glad to see these changes but you can't charge $72 when many of the holes are a mess. (right of hole 1, 3, 6, 14). I played on April 17 (mid-April) and they are not even close to having this completed.
There are many other issues with the course...
Bunkers are not well maintained. Some bunkers with grass in them. Totally unacceptable. Some bunkers with no rakes. So many bunkers have not been raked in awhile.
Place of play is a problem. Waited on every hole. I did see one ranger but he did nothing to improve this.
This course is poorly marked for yardages. No yardages on the sprinkler heads. The par 3, 6th hole has no yardage markers. Red. white, blue stakes on edge of fairways would go a long way. Poorly marked courses are a recipe for slow play - which is the case with this course.
A couple of general comments. The greens were aerated several weeks ago and they were fairly smooth. Poa annua grass is creeping into the bent grass greens.
The good things the course has done. As I mentioned in my previous reviews, they needed to remove trees in front of hole 12, which blocked the view of the hole. Good news - this has been done!!!
Repaired the cart path on hole 3.
This is one of the best designs in the metro St. Louis area. I would give it a couple of months before I would play this again. Currently, the $72 green fee is too high until these improvements are completed.
Always enjoy course
Several holes under repair. Staff is helpful and great. Always enjoy this course
If you like old style courses, you will probably like this one. not very long and a few of the fairways are split by rough and there are some blind tee shots. I haven't yet replaced by broken driver and had no issues with a 3 wood. the greens were recently aerated but seemed to roll true and were running at a good pace. as long as they keep them short and rolled they should provide a decent challenge for putting.
Good track
In the area for work, and got some time to hit the course. For dormant fairways, they were top notch. Greens had been plugged which wasn’t quite ideal but still rolled out decent just never knew where it was going to end up. Was incredibly windy and still enjoyed my round. I would think this course is awesome when In season. Would definitely play again.
