Crystal Woods Golf Club

About
Crystal Woods Golf Club dates back to the 1950s when it was opened as a nine-hole, par-37 course called Bit O’ Heather Golf Club, which it was known as until 1967 when the course was renamed and completely redesigned, which included the addition of another nine. The par-72 course that exists today tumbles across a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The golf course is mostly wide open, putting it at the mercy of the prevailing winds. On particularly blustery days, Crystal Woods Golf Club is quite demanding. The 12th is the course’s signature and it even has a reputation for being the most difficult hole in McHenry County. It’s tempting to be distracted by the beautiful view from the elevated tee but this tough hole requires your full attention. The double-tiered green rises dramatically from front to back, often demanding three or more putts.

Great Layout, Not-So-Great Fairways
This course is much fun to play with doglegs, elevation changes, distance varieties and challenging greens. I'm hoping that the rough fairway conditions are not indicative of a rumor that the facility will be sold to developers

Course was in good condition after severe storms hit the area the prior weekend. Pace of play was good. Staff was kind enough to run me out to the second hole after arriving late for my scheduled tee time.
Long time player- will think again
Been a long time player at this course. Always a fun play, moderate toughness. Issue here was pace of play, no ranger out pushing groups along, room almost 3 hours for front 9. If ranger was out pushing the groups, it would have been far better say. Hard to get in a rhythm when you are waiting 25 minutes per hole to hit.
Dont allow 4 four somes to be late off tee box and push groups.
Started off Rocky with Staff but Course was great
First time there, immediately questioned on how I got a tee time unknowingly or controllable on my behalf that they have leagues after 3 and expected me to get all of my guys there in a matter of 20 minutes when tee time wasn’t for another hour. Cart/Ground keeper was rather in a lack of better words a jack wagon on the Range.
Besides the unprofessionalism and uncontrollable scheduling dilemma on their behalf.. We started our round with no hold ups and we never even saw a “League” happen the entire round so pretty annoying we were expected to rush through a round we paid for.
Course was phenomenal but I’ll probably never go back nor recommend the head aches just by walking into the building.
Played here many times. Very nicely maintained course. Greens are challenging
Pace of play was the worst I’ve seen in awhile
I’ve played this course a couple times and pace of play has always seemed to be a bit of an issue. This last time I played it was horrendous. 10-15 in between shots…
We enjoy playing at Crystal Woods
We usually put in between 5 and 10 rounds of Crystal Woods throughout the year. We like the layout.... Especially with five par fives and five part threes.... Makes the course a little more diverse. The greens are not crazy fast, about medium speed. However the greens are well sloped and very challenging. The traps were well maintained
Overall I feel Crystal Woods woods is a great place to play quality golf and we will be visiting there often this season.
The greens are very hard even when landing on an approach shot short of the green it rolls all the way off to the back and the pin placement make it even worse, pin placements make for slow play, combined with a hard greens
