Crystal Woods Golf Club

About
Crystal Woods Golf Club dates back to the 1950s when it was opened as a nine-hole, par-37 course called Bit O’ Heather Golf Club, which it was known as until 1967 when the course was renamed and completely redesigned, which included the addition of another nine. The par-72 course that exists today tumbles across a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The golf course is mostly wide open, putting it at the mercy of the prevailing winds. On particularly blustery days, Crystal Woods Golf Club is quite demanding. The 12th is the course’s signature and it even has a reputation for being the most difficult hole in McHenry County. It’s tempting to be distracted by the beautiful view from the elevated tee but this tough hole requires your full attention. The double-tiered green rises dramatically from front to back, often demanding three or more putts.

Fine layout
very good condition compared to many in the area. some sandtraps still need matarials.
Traditional with above average play!
Always enjoyed this course, great traditional layout. Everything is in great shape. I would only suggest the greens could be rolled a bit to make them quicker. Not really a problem tho. Trees & traps!!! Not always fun but shouldn’t be there anyway.
Fair Course, probably a little over priced
I would suggest you go to 10 min tee times. 8 min clogs up the course and slows play unnecessarily. The Tee Sheet wasn't full so this costs you nothing but improves pace of play and the golfer experience.
I saw too many 2-some's on the course that could have been combined. Going to 10 min tee times would force people to pair up to get a tee time and improve the overall golf experience.
The course itself was an unusual set up with 5 par fives and 5 par Threes. Moderately tight with undulating greens put a challenge to the course. We played from the tips ~6400 yards.
Rough wasn't long so a "duffer" could play this course as well as there is little trouble to lose a ball.
Not a $63 course and perhaps I would recommend with a lower price tag and 10 min tee times.
