Only played due to the cheap price. Would not go back.
This was a very average course with just okay conditions. The rough was way too long (we were searching for balls the entire round). Some holes didn't even make sense/seemed forced or squeezed in, and the fairways were not that great (clean, but the quality of the grass was poor). The pace of play was awful. There was a 3-some holding up 3 groups at one hole. At one point we had 6 carts lined up to tee off on the 15th hole.
I only played due to a hot deal we found of GolfNow. Other than that, I would not play again. I would rather pay an extra $10-$20 for a course with holes that make sense and where the rough was cut properly.
Nice layout
First time I have played the course and did enjoy it. It is a nice layout with a good mix of challenging holes, and holes you can score well on. A few rough spots on some of the greens, but not too bad. They did not mow in the AM, so it was difficult to putt early as they were extremely wet from dew.
Well manicured
Friendly staff, fun layout, well maintained course.
Would definitely play again.
What a deal
$28 twighlight rate after 3? I don't think I've EVER had a better deal for a course like this. Staff was ultra friendly. We saw the 1 and only cart girl 4-5x. She was hustling. With the recent rain, the bent grass rough was long. Tough to hit from. The sand wasn't great either. Some of the tee boxes on the par 3s were a little beat up. Greens were great- a little slow and very true. Great layout. Some tough holes. Some very very fair holes. I'd come back in a heartbeat.
Kind of out there, but worth the drive
Hughes is a great course. The grounds crew do a great job of maintaining it and it has some fun and tricky holes along the way. There are some elevation changes on a few holes that add to the challenge. There are a few fairways that require a straight drive (little forgiveness) while others are very open. The price is great and I've never had a problem with the pace here. Played 18 in just about 4 hours on a Sunday late morning. Staff are always friendly as well. Will definitely be back.
Very well maintained
With a mild summer here in the suburbs of Chicago, they have really done a great job in keeping the course in pristine shape. I look forward to future rounds here this summer.
Sporty course and a hidden gem
I haven't played the course in several years, but was enticed by an unbelievable Hot Deal. The only drawback is that there is no driving range, but our foursome stopped at Mill Creek's range which is on the way. This is a very interesting layout with elevation changes, lots or prairie grass and several water holes. It is very scenic (only a couple of holes with homes that do not come into play). The fairways are blue grass (instead of bent which is typical), but the course was in great shape and the greens were true. We finished in under 4 1/2 hours even after letting a twosome play through. We played the white tees at 6,208 yards, but even at that relatively short distance there are some very long par 4's and it was challenging. We had a great time and the 2 guys who hadn't played it before were both pleasantly surprised at the quality of the course for such a small green fee (including cart). This course is very walkable, since it's not spread out, but there are a couple of steep hills to climb on 9 and 18.
Great day of golf
I played with my son who is home from college for the summer The course was in great shape. More elevation changes than expected for the area. The course is fairly forgiving Great value.
good course
great fun round for this time of year.course was in good shape for dec
great value
course in great shape,no goose droppings anywhere who do they do that?P ace could have been better, but we had fog.Overall can't beat the value and the staff. Hats off to the course superintendent, wonderful job.
Outstanding course for any level player
First time playing this course and it was really spectacular. Nice undulating terrain, some blind greens, narrow and wide fairways in great shape, it definitely plays long. Greens were in great condition, large and challenging. Wish some players took the time to fix their divots, but overall in great shape.
Enjoyed playing this course, beautiful and great value. Will come again soon.
Great course in the country
Great course in the country. Rolling hills make it beautiful to look at and adds a bit of a challenge.
Course was well maintained
Course in good condition considering the lack of rain. Not a real difficult course but have a few challenging holes.
1st time
1st time playing here. Nice layout. Need to be straight off many tees. Good flow of play. Friendly staff. I will be back.
fun course
Hughes Creek is a fun course to play! There are some nice elevation changes for some challenging shots. The course layout seems confusing with some zigzagging around on the back 9. but generous fairways for forgiving shots fun for all levels of players. Front nine doesn't drain well so don't expect much roll after a heavy rainfall. But looking forward to playing there again!
fast play
I played during a week day and finished in 3 hours. The greens were in excellent condition as was the fairway.
Worth it
Course was in good shape and was done in 4 hours. Worth the price and will play again in the future
Very Nice course at a reasonable price
Simply a nice kept secret out in Elburn. They have a great staff of people working there and the food is excellent!
