Poor Course Condition
1st time back at Hughes Creek in over a year. Always liked the course layout and courteous staff personnel, but this round the course condition was poor. Since the Kane County Forest Preserve took over course management, the sand bunkers, greens and some fairways are in awful shape. Dead patchy spots on greens, some quite large. Sand bunkers with weed growth and not maintained, some fairways with dead grass and abundance of weed growth.
I hope the County allocates more funding for course maintenance and returns this course to the shape it was 3 years ago,
Great course for the money
Course was very soggy after overnight storms when we played an early morning round however was draining well throughout the round so the back 9 was not as soggy as the front. We were following a bachelor party so it was a brutally slow pace of play that day. Good course with lots of elevation change. Pro shop is a little sparse and limited practice facilities. Restaurant is great for a post-round meal.
Greens covered in due and not cut
We had a early morning on July 19th. The greens were covered in heavy dew and not cut. The greens should have been cut, rolled or whipped. Trying to putt on them was just crazy. They did not dry out till about the 16th or 17th hole. The fairways were also not cut in about three or four days. Plenty of workers on the course filling holes with dirt though, should have had some on the greens, Never had a problem with the course conditions before. When the dew is that heavy have people take care of the problem.
Enjoyed the course with a buddy. Greens were a little spotty but they told us ahead of time ( nothing to affect the round) . Would definitely play again.
Great Service
Just awesome people working hard. Very dry due to no rain, but they kept the greens in good condition. Rated a 5 overall because they just work hard to try and keep everything moving. Addressed some slow players, drink cart was present regularly, service was very friendly.
Great Fathers Day!
Had a great time with son...shot his best round ever and pace was pretty good.
Cruising along then a dead halt
I like this place but won’t be playing again on a Wed. Played the first six holes in an hour then got log jammed at 7 and it took another hour to finish 9. Three groups were on 10 so we didn’t want to have a +5 hr round and left,
Maps
The course is excellent for the average to good golfer. Rick at the front desk was freiendly and a great help. The only real issue was not having a good map or picture of the holes. The course map on the score card was too small to read and there were not images at the Tee Boxes. As a first timer at this course, I would have been frustrated not being able to plan my shot on several holes wher I could not see the green at the tee box. Luckily we we’re playing with two guys that had played the course several times before. Overall a great experience, but could be made better.
Decent course, needs some work
Been playing here for several years and it's a decent course and lay-out. Not much consistency in tee boxes as some are nice, others need quite a bit of work. Back 9 far superior to front in terms of lay-out and golf course feel. Some traps could use some sand, like concrete in a few. Is what it is and nothing public west of Randall and south of Rt. 64 is much of a better alternative. Club house attendant/ranger needs a sense of humor, lighten up please :)
Hughes Creek
Great day for golf..fairways in excellent condition, ladies tee boxes all rough, spotty, uneven same every year, greens mostly good some with bare spots but to recollection some are that way every year.
Kane county forest preserve does not take care of the course. It was turned over to a company called Golf Visions a few years ago who are the ones that trashed the course.
