just so-so course
the reviews below seem a bit dated. we certainly did not find the 'fast greens' and 'pristine bunkers' that the previous reviewers cited. although greens didn't look shaggy, way too many 3 putt greens by the entire fore some, so it wasn't just me. need to put some sand in those traps. the $29 senior rate was about right for the experience.
What's not to like
What's not to like about this course? Great links style course offering a fair challenge. Greens roll well, course has always been well maintained. This is not your driver, wedge kinda course. I like the option to stretch things out over 7000 yards. Course doesn't really call for too much shot making but does get interesting if the winds pick up. Staff is friendly and not afraid to send people off the back to keep pace of play rolling. About 50 min drive from downtown Chitown.
This looks familiar.
Nice course with fast and true greens. The day I played it the course was in great shape. The only problem was the holes looked the same. Became rather boring after the fifth hole. If you are in the area play it once and then move on. Played this course for the first time 12 years ago. Now I remember why it took so long to come back.
Wide fairways, greens well maintained. Different tees make course interesting, good value for the money.
Don't tell anyone
The Brassie is awesome, quite little unknown for most Chicagoan's. Actually not as far away as you think. Hard running fairways, undulating greens, bunkers were pristine. Missing out not making the Brassie a part of the group of the golf courses in your circuit.
If you think The Brassie is awesome, go check out Sandy Pines in Demotte! You'll forget the Brassie ever existed.
excellent shape...very challanging on a windy day
Great links course. Some short holes some quite long. Keeping the ball in the fairway is a must because the heather can swallow up your golf ball never to be found again! If you enjoy a links style course this is certainly one to play.
Good course, average layout.
Enjoyed the course, nice layout, would play again if I was in the area.
Affordable Links Style Course
Course is very well maintained. Fairways are pretty generous, but that doesn't mean there aren't evil areas lurking to claim your ball never to be seen again. Keep it on the short stuff. Greens were in excellent shape, and not as extremely undulated as some other links-style courses. Very fair. Replay round in p.m. was quite windy and hot, which changed things considerably. Low score can be had with fairways & greens. Not overwhelming and very reasonable priced.
This course was in great shape and has very fast greens.
The course is a challenging links style course. The greens are fairly large with moderate undulations and they are fast. They do putt true and the speed is consistent from green to green. As I said before the course is challenging but with 4 sets of tees it can be played by golfers of all levels. The fairways are wide but if you miss one the deep fescue will have you and you will pay for it. I thoroughly enjoyed my round at The Brassie and will definitely play here again.
great atmosphere, staff friendly
Course is in overall good shape .would be in great shape if people would have a little more respect on the greens.fix your divots people.
Great course, I always enjoy playing here.
The Brassie has a nice layout. It is a nice course to play if you can keep your drives in the generous fairways. the heather has been cut back in recent years so the rough is not as penal as it could be. However if you do get in the heather expect at least a one shot penalty. The greens are large and moderately difficult.
Super value for a "Hot Deal"
The course was in very good shape. The course is challenging but you can shoot a good score. I will definitely play it again.
A very enjoyable day
Course was challenging and in excellent condition. Pro shop and course staff were helpfull and professional.
Plays like a links course
This course is for golfers who keep the ball in the fairway! Watch out for the thick rough and heather running throughout every hole! Lots of water and bunkers, but high rewards for good shots.
Challenging with beautiful heather and nice greens
This course is challenging with tall heather on most holes. Almost all greens are guarded by sand and or water forcing you to "play" golf not just hack away. The golf pro seems a bit snooty but the staff at the bar and rangers are pleasant. I would recommend this course and a wind breaker. Very few trees allow wind to sweep across the course adding to the challenge.
fast greens, rough should be thicker to stop balls from rolling off the crown into heather.
Good value for the Money
Course is worth the drive from the Chicago area, rates are good and it's very easy to get to. Course is like a upper level course in the Chicago area that you'd probably pay around $80 for a weekend rate.
If you are looking for a course while visiting Southwest MI this is a good course - it's not Whittaker Woods but for the price it's a great value and a nice alternative.
