Bittersweet Golf Club in Gurnee, Ill. is ideally situated for a scenic round of golf. The diverse landscape flows seamlessly from lush wetlands to native prairies covered with colorful wildflowers. The layout also winds across a 100-year-old sage meadow and through forests of mature hardwoods, which serve as a home to an abundance of wildlife. Beyond the beautiful scenery, the terrain presents many challenges. The undulating fairways demand accuracy as you hit from multi-tiered tee boxes. Water also comes into play on almost every hole and there's an array of strategically placed bunkers you'll have to avoid. The eighth is the toughest hole on the front nine, a par-4 dogleg right with a lightning fast green. Bittersweet Golf Club's back nine is known for its scenery, which is best displayed on the signature par-5 11th hole, which offers not only a challenge but also a spectacular view from the tee.

Challenging
Challenging course. Very much target golf not a grip it and rip it course. Course in great shape.
Had a great time at Better Sweet Golf Course! The course was in good shape, the layout was fun and challenging, and it was a great place to spend a day golfing. The staff was friendly and the overall atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. Definitely a course I’d come back to and recommend to other golfers.
Cart Path only
It rained a couple days in a row so by the time we played our round there was still lots of rain on the fairways. It made it a little more difficult than usual. Greens were fine. Pace was on the slow side but nothing horrible. As always, the staff was great! Thank you for the great service.

Great course and layout. Amazing staff for allowing cart path only after a complete monsoon the night before. Very challenging but very friendly depending your the selection. Well kept gem of lake county.

Service Was Off Today
I play here a couple of times per season and usually feel welcomed, respected and receive good service. Today was off. From the moment I walked in the pro shop the attendant was rude and short. My 4some was behind a 2some on the front but at the turn we pulled up on a 4some teeing off that we never saw in front of us. While using the bathroom which took all of 2 mins I inquired if they were letting groups off of the back because someone was in front of us. She very rudely responded that they had just stopped at the turn and was just now teeing off. We learned from the out of turn 4some that they had been at the bar after the front 9 for 20 mins!!! This undoubtedly resulted in the rest of the round being slow. With no ranger anywhere in sight. $72 is too much for that type of service on white i consider a mediocre golf course.
Bittersweet
It is a shot makers course. Most missed long, right or left will be lost. Bring balls as you might lose a bunch
The course is in great shape and the cart women was fantastic
