About
Bittersweet Golf Club in Gurnee, Ill. is ideally situated for a scenic round of golf. The diverse landscape flows seamlessly from lush wetlands to native prairies covered with colorful wildflowers. The layout also winds across a 100-year-old sage meadow and through forests of mature hardwoods, which serve as a home to an abundance of wildlife. Beyond the beautiful scenery, the terrain presents many challenges. The undulating fairways demand accuracy as you hit from multi-tiered tee boxes. Water also comes into play on almost every hole and there's an array of strategically placed bunkers you'll have to avoid. The eighth is the toughest hole on the front nine, a par-4 dogleg right with a lightning fast green. Bittersweet Golf Club's back nine is known for its scenery, which is best displayed on the signature par-5 11th hole, which offers not only a challenge but also a spectacular view from the tee.

First 2026 round at Bittersweet
Course was in good condition from tees to greens. Greens were rolling well and good speed. It was very crowded and the pace was very slow. It took us nearly 5 hours to complete our round. A marshal would be handy on really busy days to make sure everyone is moving at a decent pace.
Disappointed
My playing partner and I pulled up to the first tee at our tee time. The starter sent the other two players out slightly early and wouldn't allow us to hit our tee shots. He told us we had to start on 2. When I told him we are here and at our tee time he immediately responded with if we want a refund we can go back to the clubhouse. He was on the defensive immediately. Meanwhile the two we were playing with still hadn't reached their ball for their second shot. To make matters worse we sat on the second tee for 5-10 minutes waiting on the group in front of us who was waiting on the group in front of them.
Wet Course
It rained the night before our round and the course was cart path only. Fairways were soaked and pretty beat up. Sand traps were full of water but the greens were ok. Pace was good considering it was cart path only.
