Old Oak Country Club

About
Old Oak Country Club is situated only 20 minutes from Chicago, but the beautifully wooded terrain shaded by mature oaks and hickory trees, makes it feel as though it's much further away. Originally opened in 1926, the golf course is one of the area's oldest and even one of the oldest in the state. It has undergone many renovations over the years but it still retains its classic character. The layout offers plenty of variety with drivable par 4s and lengthy par 5s. The rolling topography provides many of the golf course's challenges, from the rolling fairways and undulating greens to the elevated tees and blind shots. Mature trees tower over the fairways, adding another tricky element to the golf course. Old Oak Country Club is challenging but fair and still quite playable, which is why it has long been a local favorite.

Hidden Gem
This is a beautiful course with some interesting holes. Tough sloping greens! Pin placements on some holes were a bit unfair. Nice practice facilities.
Greens were too fast
This is an old course with small undulating greens. That’s fine, but having the greens be as fast as they were today makes them too difficult to hold a lot of good approach shots. And certain pin placements were simply unfair on greens that fast and slopey. That turns an otherwise good round into a frustrating experience. Sorry, that’s not my idea of a good time.
Better Than Working
Course is nice. Sand traps need more sand. Soft top inch with a hard bottom. Greens are fast.
Course in great shape!
I hadnt played Old Oak in over 10 years, and I forgot how beautiful the course really is. . Nice topography, beautiful layout, and challenging without being overly long. I will definately be comming back here again in the future.
Beat up
Course is always packed, 6 some in front of us, greens looked like a WW1 battle field.
Love this track, but its beat up
Old Oak used to be one of the best kept secrets on the Southwest side, but I feel like with Glenn Eagles closing, the greens have really taken a beating with all the outings.
Still a gem, but hard to currently justify the weekend rate IMO.
Bring Everything
Well here is yet another bad review. I have never played here before. First I will say, the course was in OK shape. The greens are beautiful and difficult ( In other words, fun to play)
The golf cart was fully charged. And that's the end of the good stuff.
With the exception of the cart girl, who we only saw once during 18 holes, the staff needs an attitude adjustment. Today was a 98 degree Sunday and there is NO WATER anywhere on the course. When we got to the club house at the turn I asked for a drinking fountain. Nope. I guess you sell more bottled water that way.
No gps on the carts, No ball washers with water in them, No senior discount, No handicap access.
On one of the holes there is a bridge blocked off so, You have drive back down the fairway that the people behind you are now shooting into to get to the green. Just like Viet "Flippin" Nam! You get my drift. Too expensive for a place that just doesn't care about the people who play there. Will not return. Good luck.
Old Oak sneaky test
Course is in great shape. Sand traps devious. The greens are super fast and pin placements very tricky. Overall, we loved it despite our high scores and will return. Played in just 4:10 on Memorial Day holiday. Tough to top the pace!
Thick Grass and Rock Hard Greens
Overall, the course is in good shape although a few greens were in the process of restoration of some spots. Rough was very thick and not particularly short requiring substantial strength to hit out of it successfully. Given the relatively tight fairways, the rough could be cut a bit shorter to allow fair to good golfers a better chance of being successful. Greens are rock hard and, as a result, it is near impossible for a even good players to hold the green on approach shots. The sand was fine and better than in past years. Greens are difficult with many having a significant slope--being above the hole is death on several greens.
Chippin ain't easy
Bring your putting A game. The greens are very difficult. It isn't an easy track, and they keep it in great shape.
WE had played the course 4 years ago and decided to go back and see what improvements had been made. To me, it was a disaster. I would not pay 25.00 dollars to play this course. One hole was closed and others needed to be closed. Never was this mentioned. Multiple greens with bald spots all over them. Tee to green was fine but once you got to the green it was unbelievable! I would be a very upset homeowner living on this course. I don't think I have ever spoken badly about any place on a review, but I honestly think this needed to be said and hopefully addressed by the ownership.
