Old Oak Country Club

About
Old Oak Country Club is situated only 20 minutes from Chicago, but the beautifully wooded terrain shaded by mature oaks and hickory trees, makes it feel as though it's much further away. Originally opened in 1926, the golf course is one of the area's oldest and even one of the oldest in the state. It has undergone many renovations over the years but it still retains its classic character. The layout offers plenty of variety with drivable par 4s and lengthy par 5s. The rolling topography provides many of the golf course's challenges, from the rolling fairways and undulating greens to the elevated tees and blind shots. Mature trees tower over the fairways, adding another tricky element to the golf course. Old Oak Country Club is challenging but fair and still quite playable, which is why it has long been a local favorite.

Great fall day
Got to play with my friend and another twosome. Beautiful day with 20-30 mph wind.
Course was in good shape for the time of year. They are some of the fastest greens for a daily fee course.
Food and beverages were limited, mostly due to the COVID restrictions being implemented the next day.
Would have no problem in playing this course next year. The senior rate makes this place a bargain.
Good times
First time playing was a single and joined a group of three, great guys. Enjoyed the round and the course. Would definitely recommend this course for others. Price was right. Only issue was that their were a lot of piles of leaves on the course and as a group we lost a number of golf balls when they were hit where we should have found them, including the fairway. But the fact that it was November and we were able to play was great. Staff was friendly and course was in great shape. Pin placements were a little difficult on several holes however which made it a little tough.
Friendly Starter
A great experience with the Starter/Ranger. Extremely polite. The best I’ve ever experienced.
Picturesque! Well Kept Golf Course
Old Oak is your 5 Star Classic Country Club. Starting with their Driving range to their seperate practice areas for short game, chipping & putting, and bunker play. Must Play course great value!
First Time Impression - will go back next season
I know it's hard to believe I had never played Old Oak until yesterday. In better shape than most courses this year - very well maintained....even the sand traps were raked up with good sand. Pace of play wasn't an issue at all. $37 cost to play was about the right price point. Interesting layout.....the Par 5 fifth and Par 3 sixth are both challenging wonderful well designed golf holes....a really nice surprise. Old Oak is a course you have to play several times to get the general hang of where to route your shots and where to miss/lay up/punch out etc. The track does have it's issues - claustrophobic areas where a hard hat is necessary due the proximity of other golf holes, over growth of trees, 150 yard markers which look like they are placed in the middle of the fairways - but are not the line of play you should take, several sharp doglegs requiring lay up or shaped tee shots around trees......and without a play under your belt (even with others assisting who have several rounds in at Old Oak) you're pretty clueless. I know others have said this but the 2nd green is completely ridiculous....it's so severely sloped and comes so early in the round you're wondering when the next windmill or clown shoes will pop up.....because it's just plain wrong when a playing partners 4 foot dead uphill par putt gets less than an inch from the hole and then rolls back past them. Also interesting to note that all of us had far too numerous balls end up just off or past green fringes that stopped on non grassed almost hard pan areas with plenty of healthy grass surrounding. So for those reasons it's a 3 to 3.5 star course....very scenic and challenging and can be played sharper but only after you have a 1st experience. Recommend - $40 value.
Nice course
Course was great!!!
The starter / ranger was rude !!!
Tee off/golf now ripped me off
Couldn’t play because of lightening storm but still had to pay full green fees. A course will never officially close so be sure there is no chance of bad weather or you’re screwed. Lightening strikes all around but it’s “discretionary” whether to go in the course or not.
Hidden Jem
This is one of my groups favorite courses. Even with the amount of play this course gets they keep it in great condition. However this last time out i was very disappointed in the green side bunkers. It looks like they had not been raked in a week. The sand was so had the balls were flying out of the sand. Please rake the bunkers....?
Rude starter...Great Course
Sunday afternoon we got to the course and there was a 30 min back up. No problem... however, the starter was so inconsiderate and rude.. He should not be working with customers. We are regular customers and encountered such unprofessional behavior.
