Marengo Ridge Golf & Country Club
About
Marengo Ridge Golf Club opened as a nine-hole course in 1963. Spread across rolling, wooded hills, the course was crafted by re-purposing an old farm. The working cattle barn was even renovated to become the clubhouse. As the golf course garnered a local following, a new nine was added in 1990. The more than 25-year difference between when the two nines were constructed give the course a unique character. The layout seamlessly blends modern techniques and classic design. The distinct topographies of each nine add even more variety. Marengo Ridge Golf Club's original nine holes weave through mature trees while the newer holes are more open and links-style. There are several tricky doglegs throughout but it isn't overly punishing if you're errant. You'll also face several water hazards and strategically placed bunkers.

Slow play
Course was crowded so play was slow. Probably due to a group of 6 in front of us. Lots of new/beginner players most Asian
Always a pleasant experience
We enjoyed an under 3 hour round on a perfect Sunday afternoon - booked the 1st time after their Superintendents Revenge scramble so the course completely cleared out after the last group finished on the 1st green. Flagstick positions for this round were at their most difficult however they were very fair....just tucked with several cut in difficult positions near the edges with lots of slope. Overall Marengo is in decent shape....greens are just fine. Sand traps were pretty crusty and do need some work but has been the case for several years. Tee boxes are okay but need a tad of attention. The fairways have been cut a tad too short and are patchy getting sparse in areas some areas the ball just doesn't seem to sit up well....not normally the case...my opinion they need to let the fairways grow out a little. Very welcoming folks and they care deeply about your experience. Range off grass and a locker room showers in the basement. No gps on cars bring a laser/garmin. Nice bar and decent food post round. Always a solid consistent affordable 4 star play and a track I always want to play at least once or more a season. A top 20 affordable gem in Chicagoland.
The course has good people working for it
The courses in really nice shape the pin placements today we're kind of crazy, I played 18 holes in three and a half hours.
front nine tough
front nine is difficult with a lot of water, back nine is easier.
Water water everywhere
Unfortunately, we played the day after a storm came through and the drainage was not very good. 90% of the bunkers were filled with water. I lost 2 balls in the bunker water. The other issue were the fairways. The grass was a little sparse for my liking.
Drainage
Coarse drains exceptionally well after heavy rains.
Really enjoyed the course
Was wet but we knew that before we purchased. Really nice course
Gem In The Country
Marengo Ridge is a well-designed and challenging layout. The staff is very friendly and accommodating (you can often tee off early if no other golfers are around), and the value is one of the best around. Course has several dogleg holes, going left and right, to challenge your course management, and the greens are in great shape. Although located out in the country, the trip is worth it. The only drawback I noticed this year were the bunkers. Some of them had a lot of stones in them, which made me worry a bit about scratching a club. Overall, however, Marengo Ridge is a nice challenge for any golfer, and I always enjoy playing there several times each season.
Good course
You should play here if you get the chance. Fun course layout, challenging
great shape
Course very well maintained. Our foursome finished in 3 hours 45 minutes. We ill be back
Amazing day on a Great course
I've played Marengo Ridge 10 times in the past couple of years. Great practice facility, great prices and an amazing golf course. Greens are true and hold. Bunkers are fair. So many holes with challenging but playable opportunities. Played 18 holes in 3 HOURS!
Teed off at 12:00, in my car leaving by 3:05.
slow play
5+ hour round. partly caused by the Pro Shop who allowed a 4some to tee off in front of us on the back nine.
Normally play this course in 3+ hours so it was a brutal day
