Love the layout, played in 3.75 hr., some of the holes fairway are narrow but great playing there with great natural beauty.
Course is in great shape...pace of play was good, less than 3.5 hrs for 18 holes
The course was in great shape. Greens were healthy despite the moisture over the past couple of weeks. Carts were clean and well maintained. Leaves made it difficult to find balls at times but only on the rough. Fairways were very well kept. This may become a favorite course in Chicagoland due to playability and pace of play.
Nice Links Course
The staff was friendly. The course was in good shape. The only issue was there was no ranger and it took us right at 4 hours to play 18. We had a 4 some ahead of us that wouldnt let us through. Besides that...Great Course....
Good Time
Got a hot deal for$16 on Sunday afternoon. Finished in 3.5 hours. Course in decent shape. A few greens need some TLC.
Me and my son had a great time.
I like this course you get to use a pretty good portion of clubs in your bag.
A few challenging holes but overall a relatively easy course.
Great course!! Very challenging..
Course is in great shape. It was very wet due to previous rain and the course still played well. Nice layout too..
Great local course
This is my second time playing this course. Some holes are challenging due to the features surrounding the course like the railroad track, a creek/river, and woods. Some holes are wide open and others are tight due to wooded areas and swampy areas along some fairways.
fun course
The course was in great shape especially for all the rain we had.
Great conditions for October
I was paired with a twosome, that were fun to play with. We played in under 4 hours on a late Sunday morning. Course was in good condition. We saw one Marshall all day, on the 17th tee, who seemed to be recording cart numbers which seemed odd
perfct price
challenging course, great price
Very nice course
The course was in very good condition (in spite of the aerated greens) and has good eye appeal. Its design is above average and is challenging even to the best golfers as it plays up to 6900 yards. I'm not usually a fan of the links style courses but I will definitely go back to this course as it was challenging and fun to play.
Greens
I have played here a few times over the years , greens were terrible . Me and my buddy were teamed up with a very nice couple , they felt the same way . Really like the course but this time was very disappointed
I will NOT go back.
Being a New Lenox resident, I had played Sanctuary a handful of times in the past. I'm not a huge fan of the layout...its a weird mix of holes & everytime I've been out the course had been beat up and the pace of play was awful...
Headed out with my Father on opening day of the NFL as there was a 90 minute block of tee times open - so we figured we'd give the course another try being it should be fairly wide open & $38 on a Sunday was a good rate.
Cutting to the chase, we played 12 holes and ended up driving off the course. Sanctuary was pretty much how I remembered it...poor tee box conditions, very little sand in the traps, greens typical wear with a handful of unfixed ball marks but roll nicely & fairways and rough are nice and plush.
The problem we encountered besides being underwhelmed by the course was the pace of play. Even when I checked in I asked the starter if the course was wide open, etc which he replied, "you'll be fine". Well 3 holes in we ran into a 4some that unfortunately decided they didn't want to let us play through. Nice golf etiquette!? After waiting on the Par 5, 5th we skipped 6 to get ahead and then proceeded to hit another group. I still don't understand where these groups came from?
Now, I understand golf on a Sunday can be slow (it's why I normally DONT play on the weekends) but after seeing all the open tee times & calling before booking to confirm with the course I was frustrated. We waited 3-5 mins on every shot as we somehow ran into a backlog of golfers.
The thing that annoyed me was that they had 3 Rangers there at the course & and we never saw one out of the actual course checking pace of play. How do I know there were three? When I came to drop the cart off to leave, two were sitting in carts on 1 (apparently it takes two guys to check paid tickets as a Starter?) and the third was in the clubhouse "checking" on the NFL scores/games while telling some guys he needed to get back outside.
I just honestly would never pay more than $40 for this course. It's not worth it in my opinion & the layout is average at best - definitely tailored to a high handicapper. That's not an insult, just my 2 cents.
With all the money New Lenox spends on their Village Hall & Police Station, I'd expect a more high end, well maintained & manicured public course (take a look at Naperville's Naperbrook & Springbrook courses, for example). Needless to say, I won't be back again. Just not my cup of tea.
Great course
The course was awesome and very challenging. Quite a few of the fairways are sloped in the direction of trouble areas and the fairway bunkers are positioned to make your tee shot difficult. The greens were fast and true but a bit chewed up only because so many people didn't repair their ball marks. I read a review before we went and I agree 'bring plenty of balls'
Good Course Conditions
Good course conditions and good pace of play for a very enjoyable golf experience for the day!
Average course conditions
Fairways need more maintenance
Sanctuary
I love this track! The layout, the greens, the upkeep, the price, the people. Never a bad experience here. Unfortunately, the course don't love me back. I can never seem to score here. That's my shot making. I'll keep coming back to try tho.
Good challenge, nice setting
I've played this course 3 times. It's a great setting and although it does border a railroad and there is the occasional train, I prefer that to courses that snake through subdivisions. The Sanctuary is an appropriate name.
My most recent round was early on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and was completed in 4 hours flat. The other 2 rounds here were slower, but this one was quite fast for a weekend.
The course has a good mix of easier holes plus many that are more challenging. It's a great value that I highly recommend.
Frist ime
Frist rime playing this course. Good shape, pace was super slow, should have know better it was 4 of July morning!!!! Play it again for sure
Good time
Course played fast, greens were fair. Most hole locations were in good spots. We will be back.
