Mr 3 Wood
Play your shot to stay out of bunkers at all cost.
Hitting a 3 wood on 17 followed by 2 irons will
make you happy. Too much trouble with the bunkers and water.
Joliet Jewel
The Sanctuary is an excellent golf course, but is very difficult to categorize. Although I believe it is labeled as links-style, there are examples to the contrary. There are a handful of holes that are tight and tree-lined, and others that are straight-forward with no bunkers. The par-5 4th hole, for example, is a dogleg left that has a somewhat vague look from the teebox since you cannot see the green through the forest on the left. Aim your drive just inside the bunkers on the right. Stay away from the left side. Even though it looks favorable, you may have to lay up way back, which could jeopardize a GIR. Going for the green in two is unlikely even with the longest of drives. There are a couple of other holes on the back that venture into the forest, but most of the course is somewhat wide open, and right in front of you. There is plenty of bunkering as you would expect from a links-style course, and the greens are undulated and fast, but not rock hard, though. However, some are small for links-style, and mostly sloped toward the front, which removes the Scottish bump-and-run style of approach as an option to some extent. Excellent condition of the greens, though. They were a lot of fun to putt. Although the rough is thick in spots, it is not unruly. The prairie grass beyond that is another story, but if you go there, you get what you deserve. Water does come into play on a number of holes, but you ought to be able to avoid it unless you mishit a shot. I don't recall any substantial forced carries. You may not need driver all the time, either. All in all, you can score really well if you keep the ball in play and make good decisions, but that is fundamental, isn't it? Enjoy!
Try Sactuary
Course was in good shape. Friendly atmosphere . Great course for folks in the Lincolnmsy Area and beyond.
Bring extra balls and expect a challenge
Many of the holes are landscaped to lean toward hazards such as high natural growth and water, so expect to lose some balls that are irretrievable.. You may feel like "Lawrence of Arabia" due to the many strategically placed sand traps that are in reach. The traps do have sand in them, some more than others. The greens in general are quite large. It is a challenging course that will test you with its layout and natural hazards. The course was in excellent condition.
nice course
very good golf course in the area.
Sanctuary
This is a great course that provides numerous risk/reward scenarios. It is a course where you need to put your ego aside to really enjoy the round. Since it is links style course, the winds can really make you think about the type of shot or club that you will use. It is easily one of my favorite courses in the area!
A must play course
Even though the weather has been cold and raining, this course held it's water well, it was very playable to our surprise! We had a great time. The course is well kept, and the staff is friendly. Can't wait for the warmer weather to enjoy the 19th hole and sit out on the patio to enjoy the day.
Tight Fairways!
I expected this course to play tight and it definitley does. miss the fairway and ur in the bermuda. The rough at this time of year is tolerable. But i could only imagine how much more difficult this course will be when the roughs rise up. 8-9 pace greens (fast) which is my favorite. green reading is a must. The back holes in the sanctuary are absolutely stunning. wish more holes were located back in the sanctuary. Can get windy in the open. Overall great experience. Staff very friendly. Complimentary coffee was offered and starter was very friendly. will play again. escaped the sanctuary with a 91.
Fun Course
The course layout is great and the fairways were perfect. The only issue we had was that the greens were not in the best shape because of golfers not repairing their pitch mark's. Also there was no beverage cart and only 2 areas to get water on the course other than that the overall experience and course was great.
Better tee times.
I had a tee time scheduled for 8:06 am. It was for a single only. I got to the course at 7:30 and checked in and they wanted me to play with a three some. I asked to play alone. They said that's fine but that there were at least three four somes ahead of me. That's fine but why book a single then behind so many four somes. I was able to play the front nine in an hour. Three groups allowed me to play through. The back nice took me 2.5 hours. They booked way to many people close together in the morning. Terrible flow to playing. Other than that course was great. But when I'm playing by myself on a Monday morning at 7:30 in the morning I should be done in less than three hours.
Great way to start the year
The course was in great shape this early in the year. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Carts have free GPS. Nice driving range with new range balls and chipping/sand trap practice area is a great way to warm up before a round. Have played this course before and this is a great time to play before the rough grows up to make the course much more difficult. Holes 3,5,,10,12,13,14,17 and 18 will give you a run for your money
Good Public Course - each hole has character
Other than the winter issues, the course is in very good shape. Surprisingly, the sand bunkers were maintained well. The greens were rolled and medium fast. Friendly reception in the Pro-shop. Overall, I give and A considering the weather,
Overyall a very enjoyable round
Reached the course an hour early and the starter (very friendly) allowed us out. We Had a pair in front of us with a foursome in front of them and everyone really clicked along. Very little waiting and we finished 18 in just over three hours!
Anytime there is decent golf in November in Northern Illinois, I'll take it. Tee boxes, greens, and fairways were trimmed and mostly free of fall debris that can typically be expected this time of year.
For the most part this course is wide open but some fairways can be tight and bunkers are ideally positioned to penalize you for poor aim and distance control. Greens, average to small in size, were wet early but rolled true with average speed as much as can be expected in the fall. Loved the back nine most and especially the two holes tucked away in the woods. Would definitely play again when the price is right.
It's a Good track !
There are a few challenging holes. It's always a good time. The ONLY drawback I found were the greens. I found myself fixing ball marks on every green. They were a bit rough with quite a few ball marks that were not repaired and from a lot of play.
The Verge of Greatness
This course has the capability of being really nice. But it's not there, yet. Their residential rates are what all guest should expect to play for a course like this. The course design is fun. The greens on the other hand are horrific. Evidently divot tools are hard to come by in New Lenox.
Course calls for accuracy off the tee, doglegs, narrow landings, and tight shoots (9th from the tips). Greens hold well and roll fair, after you fix numerous divots and spike tears. Staff was hands down the most hospitable staff I've come across in a long time. Food and drink is reasonably priced as stated in previous posts. One absurd incident is when you order a drink on the course from the "drink cart", they have to drive back to the clubhouse to make said drink and then come back in 3 or 4 holes…Plan appropriately.
Challenging off the tees
First time here, great course. Very flat, as would be expected, and the fairways are VERY narrow. The greens are tiny, which makes appraoch shots tough too. Really enjoyed the course, the challenge, and the prices for food/drink in the clubhouse were the most reasonable in recent memory.
Definitly a play again....
What a course ! !!!!!!!!
Sanctuary was one of the best golf courses we have played this year. I play twice a week regular
since my retirement last year. Now I will include Sanctuary in my schedule . The course , staff ,food was excellent .
See you soon as a regular .
How do you become a member ?
Bang for your bucks
It's very nice golf course. It has some confusion holes with tee boxes locations. Yet very nice and challenging golf course. We played from blue tees. Have fun if you play this course....
