grest public course but very slow play by a group two holes ahead and no marshall. 5 hour round doesnt work when they had two holes empty in front of them. couldnt get a drink or food on the turn one lady working and waited more then 10 minutes without her acknowledging us. group after us said she wont come to window and we needed to go inside which at this point we didnt have time to do. stopped in after the round to ask if they were looking for help and she didnt like my suggestion of needing more employees. been here 15 years and only get out to oak brook once a year for these reasons. great place just thought id finally give some feedback
Disappointing experience
There was confusion regarding tee times as they double booked our reserved tee time. Because we were not permanent tee time users they blamed us for the mix up and made the experience very unwelcoming. If you are not a regular at Oak Brook, they don’t want your business.
Really a 5-some is at the tee box on 1
Probably the most awful experience I have had in a very long time . The pace of play was awful and we had nearly a 15+ minute wait per hole . The course was oversold . The starter let a 5-some tee off in front of my 3-some . The starter added a random person to our 3-some when we were getting on to hole two and then a ranger took one of our golf carts back in the middle of our round because they were short .
Could be a great course if they spaced tee times better and enforced pace of play .
Green, lush, and a new outdoor patio
Great shape, and a new gathering spot after an enjoyable round
Enjoyable
The course was extremely wet due to a lot of rain the previous day but still in good shape despite the rain. The greens were surprisingly fast despite the dampness and not being cut. Even though the weather was not the best it was still an enjoyable day. Pace of play was good.
Don’t go on a weekend
The people working the cards and the grill are always friendly. Front desk not so much.
Anyway, no Ranger ever spotted on the course led to me leaving after 5 hours and 12 holes.
The group I played with gave up after nine, pthe people I linked up with on 10 gave up after the 11th hole.
Nice course, it’s challenging and in good shape, but never again.
Good challenge
Oak Brook is a good golf course with two different nines. 3 dog lefts then a couple of rights on the front make it a tough start. Back nine is a little straighter but really fun to play. A fun challenge.
Well placed hazards
I really enjoyed the layout of the course, the hazards were well placed, and the greens were challenging but not impossible. The condition of the course was excellent. The pace was perfect, but hard for me to judge because we were out very early on a monday
First time playing here and it was great. The tee boxes and fairways were in excellent shape. Some of the greens left much to be desired. I spent a good amount of time fixing divots left by others on many of the greens. Pace of play was great as me and the two others in my group finished in just over 3 and a half hours. Friendly rangers and the pro shop staff were great. The scenery at the course was beautiful, as many of the holes had nice flowers bed surrounding them. I’d recommend this course for any golfer.
Good track
Always a challenging course with water, traps and large greens. Make sure your putter is working!
Good challenge
Good course good challenge and Food is good all made fresh. Slow round today almost 5 hrs. Generally not this slow should be no more than 4 hrs. Maybe consider some marshals to help keep a better pace on the weekend.
Keep me informed
Is it that hard to let prospective golfers know you are having an outing that day? There were groups in front of us who quit and I’m glad they did otherwise our five hour round would have six. I’m disappointed in the lack of communication.
OBGC
So I kind of consider this my home course even though it's miles away, I like that they offer a grass range, delicious clubhouse food which you can order from a phone box on the ninth tee....
Overall I would give this place 5 stars with one exception....it seems to me that in order to be hired for the starters position you have to have the following three qualifications:
1. Be rude or grumpy
2. Don't know how to properly pair up couples with singles, with walk ons
3. Hold some grudges against those that are up on the tee box, either because they are playing, they are cubs fans, or whatever they feel disliking about you on that day
Other than that the place is fantastic...inside everyone is respectful and I'd say the most respectful are the rangers on the course.
I wish they brought down their rates a but because there are still other options in the area that are just as good like Willow crest
