University Park Golf Club
About
University Park Golf Club (formerly known as University Golf Club & Conference Center) boasts one of the most popular championship courses in the Chicagoland area. The golf course has been a local favorite since it first opened in 1962. The original design by Lawrence Packard received an update in 2004 by Greg Martin, but the classic character of the layout still remains. The course wanders across gentle rolling terrain, providing elevated tees and undulating fairways. Water hazards come into play on half the holes, including on the 17th, University Park Golf Club's signature hole. This intimidating par 3 requires a tough carry over water to an elevated green. Miss it and you'll be faced with the nearly impossible task of getting up and down. The difficulty doesn't let up with the final hole, an uphill dogleg par 4 with a sloped, elevated green and water on the right.

Cut the grass
The rough was much to high and in dirre need of cutting. Wasted far to much time trying to find balls in the rough. There was also a lot of cut dead grass which added to the difficulty of finding balls. Greens were in good shape but slow. Like the course but they have to do better grounds keeping.
Great Course in Really Bad Shape
I'll start off by saying that I have played University Park half a dozen times in the last year or so and never had an issue until my last recent outing there. The layout is great, the staff is great, and the pace of play is typically pretty good too. For the price it has been one of my favorite spots to play in the Chicago area.
With all that being said, though, the course is (or was when I was there a week ago) in really bad shape. The rough is absurdly long and thick--8-10 inches in some spots. After losing three drives that were hit just a few yards from the fairway we left after only a few holes. University Park was literally swallowing golf balls and I wasn't willing to spend my afternoon on a search and rescue mission for shots that should be pretty easy to find...
When I went to request a refund (which to their credit they agreed to) the staff in the pro shop said their mower had been broken for over a week. Makes sense. What doesn't make sense is that they were charging full price for a course that was nearly unplayable. I'll be back when they have their mower fixed but if I were you I'd call and make sure before booking or you're in for a long round.
Great value for the price point.
This course has fantastic character, challenges and forgiveness. High recommend putting this on your list to play this year.
You get what you pay for
I’ve played University Park multiple times due to its proximity and it is one of the cheaper courses in the area. When I took my friends to golf over the weekend, they had landscapers out which isn’t a problem except that it was during the prime time hours.
However the landscaping was much needed because the rough was more like fescue you’d see in a links style course making balls hit even the fringe of the rough almost impossible to find.
I will still continue to golf this course due to its price but if the course is poorly maintained there are other courses to play.
It should’ve been free to play!!!
Let me start by saying that the staff was great and very friendly. They get 5 stars!!! Now the golf course was not what I expected for the price. In my opinion they should not be charging for anything other than to use their cart. The fairways were average but the rough....the rough might as well had been Sherwood Forest. For instance, I hit an exception tee shot that landed near the right edge of the fairway and bounced into the rough approximately four (4), yes I said Four (4) feet from the edge of the fairway. It took several minutes to locate my golf ball. Had it not been for the fact that I had given up hope of finding my ball and walked back to the cart only to nearly twist my ankle on a golf ball that wasn’t even mine. Only to find my right next to the cart. Yes I should’ve seen it as soon as I stopped the cart but the grass in the rough was sooooooo high that you could only see the ball or any ball if you were standing directly over it. So long story short if It didn’t land in the fairway good luck trying to find it without wasting several minutes looking for it and possibly still not being able to find it. Which is how I lost several brand new Vice Golf balls. I’m pretty sure it’s a good place to play if was kept up like a golf course should be, especially if they’re actually charging people money to play there. Overall it was extremely frustrating to play knowing that you hit an exceptional shot only to have to drop another ball in the fairway or somewhere near the ball that couldn’t be found, only if there was 6 inches or less. There were areas that 10-14 inches. So in conclusion read the reviews prior to purchasing online and if you get there and they tell you that the rough is a little higher than normal. Politely say thanks for your help and LEAVE!!!! Again they should not charge anyone to play until they get that taken care of. It was a waste of time and money!!!!!!
Course in Horrible Shape
The rough had grass 8 to 9 inches tall. The greens were littered with debris. According to the staff the rough lawn mower has been broken for three weeks. No notification prior to playing of these deplorable conditions. Balls two feet off the fairway takes 5 to 10 minutes to find. This is the worse condition that this course has been in, in over 15 years. Absolutely unplayable. There is a reason that it isn’t crowded. Terrible terrible terrible!!!! Refunds should be the norm.
Good course for the price
Good course wide open course. Not much trouble ! The rough is very high you must stay in the fairway.. also green need to be cleaned off.
Poor course maintenance
I use to golf here often but was very disappointed at how poorly the course is kept. The "rough" off the fairways hadn't been cut in weeks! There shouldnt be that many long stemmed dandelions on the course, we couldn't find balls that were a few feet off the fairway. For the price, It was very troubling to see such a well manicured course in the past in such poor shape. The mens bathrooms in the club house look as if they hadn't been cleaned (urinals had stains). I understand that it is under new management so I pray that this is just growing pains that often come with transitions.
Cut the Rough!
My group plays U.P. 4-5 times every golf season. This is the first time this year. Not a lot of people out today. Maybe 10 cars in the lot. The fairways were in good shape and the greens were okay except for a couple of 'holes' in them. The main issue w had with the course was the rough! It really lived up to its name! If you were wayward on your drive it was 50-50 that you would find your ball. I lost 2 balls today and my group lost maybe 6-7. None O.B. nor in the water.
Windy day. Course is in great shape. Greens are in great shape. Not too crowded so we played in under 3 hours. Staff is probably the nicest group of people around.
Hidden Gem
Course is in great shape and they are flexible for a single golfer
Good course, well maintained
I have played this course over many years, and it has been renewed by new management. The course has many challenging holes, that require measured shots. A great course, with good rates.
Course wasn’t even open. Had hot deal listed for the day got there and doors were locked at the clubhouse.
Course Was Closed
Me and my buddies showed up 30 minutes before our Tee time and were standing outside with roughly 12 other golfers. Please let me know if I will receive a refund or do I need to dispute the charge.
