Excellent greens
The greens are well maintained and overall the course is nice
Overpriced cart
I called and asked about a cart because I reserved a tee time. Didn’t realize $18.00 a person for a cart rental was the charge. Why is that???
Joe Louis
Nice layout course in good condition. Bunkers could use some work but fairways and greens in nice condition
An oldie, but goodie
I hadn't played at Joe Louis in a couple of years and went there with a friend who used to play the course when he was in his teens. (We're senior citizens now.)
The course was in decent shape and presents enough challenges to make you think about the kind of shot you want to make.
One thing my partner and I could not understand was why there were no rakes in any of the bunkers. The Cook County Forest Preserve District should probably invest in a few. Otherwise, no complaints at all.
I'll definitely go again....likely every year or two...to keep it in my "course rotation".
Decent Course Near the City
All things considered, this was a decent course that’s relevantly close to Chicago. It has ok hole design and some holes that are decently long. The course was in ok condition, but not great. Pace of play was slow and took about 5 hours.
Greened up
The Champ came back after recent rains and is looking very green again. Greens in great shape. Staff A-1. Great round.
Great muni in Chicago!
Underrated course. Solid public option in Chicago.
Great course
The course was in good shape
The people who work there were very friendly
I would recommend Joe Louis to everyone
Nice people but way too slow.
The staff was very friendly. However, the pace of play was so slow and took away from the enjoyment of the day. The course is pretty dry, but the greens were not bad.
Course staff is bad
I have played there over 30 times over the last 3 years and this year has been so bad, In my previous three experiences with this course I had to wait over 40 minutes for a cart, then had to wait another 30 minutes past my tee time and share a cart that I paid for with someone random as they were pulling in the parking lot, and today was the last straw for me as we had to wait over 30 mins past tee time again, the starter asked me if they can let a group that never played in front of us so I'll never be coming back to this course again which such a shame because the layout is so fun for the price
Water Please!
Played The Champ yesterday. Greens and Tees in great shape. Bunkers not bad either. Fairways need water. I know it’s been dry but there must be a way to water. Hoses? A little water might go a long way.
Aim for the Rough
The fairways are mostly dirt and dead grass, it’s almost better to aim for the rough so you at least can hit out of the grass. Greens weren’t as horrible but still not great
Joe Louis Gold
Nice course with a few decent challenges. The first hole is straight ahead and pretty easy. Overall a nice course and they have improved over the last couple years. The clubhouse could be cozier. It kinda feels like a school library. Wood chairs and tables. The should add another tv in the lounge area too.
Slow pace of play, layout questionable
Tee boxes very close to each other on different holes, greens fenced off from other areas, no driving range ( it stated it did have one online) and a 5 hour round means a lot of frustration.
