Water Please!
Played The Champ yesterday. Greens and Tees in great shape. Bunkers not bad either. Fairways need water. I know it’s been dry but there must be a way to water. Hoses? A little water might go a long way.
Aim for the Rough
The fairways are mostly dirt and dead grass, it’s almost better to aim for the rough so you at least can hit out of the grass. Greens weren’t as horrible but still not great
Joe Louis Gold
Nice course with a few decent challenges. The first hole is straight ahead and pretty easy. Overall a nice course and they have improved over the last couple years. The clubhouse could be cozier. It kinda feels like a school library. Wood chairs and tables. The should add another tv in the lounge area too.
Slow pace of play, layout questionable
Tee boxes very close to each other on different holes, greens fenced off from other areas, no driving range ( it stated it did have one online) and a 5 hour round means a lot of frustration.
Champ for a reason
Course is in great shape! Enjoyed the greens and the great staff! Will definitely be back.
Srained well
We've been playing Joe Louis The Champ g. c. for may years. The course used to drain poorly following rains. But now with additional areas that used to flood set aside as fescue / rapraian and natural areas for wildlife, the course was very playable following 2 nights of rain. Enjoyed the round as I had avoided the xourse for the last 8-10 years. Now its back in my Chicago southside "rotation"!
Great Value
This is a very nice course with a good range of shots needed. Not too much water but lots of overgrowth(intentional) grass bunkers. The sand bunkers were flooded and in disrepair, but the rest of the course was great. The greens were very good!
