Mystic Oak Golf Course
About
Mystic Oak Golf Course in Waterloo has a diverse layout that seems to play a little differently each time you're on it. The layout features long, winding fairways and gently sloping greens, which are framed by a slew of strategically placed bunkers. There are also many water hazards that come into play throughout the golf course. The gently rolling terrain has subtle ups and downs that provide tricky uneven lies. The back nine is uniquely divided into three par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s each. The golf course will test your short-game skills but the lengthy par 5s offer driving opportunities for long hitters as well. Mystic Oak Golf Course is player friendly enough for a wide range of skill levels but you may be surprised to find yourself using all the clubs in your bag.

This course has a good layout, but need to maintain the fairway
This course has a bad fairways. They need to improve their tees off and fairway
the greens were in great shape
had a good day on course but fairway need a little care
fairways were in terrible condition
interesting layout
greens putted well
fairways were in terrible condition
Course in awful shape.
Played on a Sunday, course was busy but not crowded. On almost all the holes there was a complete lack of fairways. There was clover and weeds throughout and large bare spots where the fairways should be. Several of the tee boxes were bare. I realize it is mid August but I have recently played at several other courses which were all in good shape.
My new favorite course!
Mystic Oak is a gorgeous course! A few of the fairways were a bit spotty, but overall, I was incredibly impressed with its condition. There's a decent amount of water on the course, but the holes were fair. The staff was super friendly and helpful when we asked about the course. I can't wait to go back!
You could cut the grass...
We played this course on a beautiful Sunday afternoon...no cart person for beverages on course. Greens rolled nice, in decent shape...the rest, well... fairways were longer than my front yard with as many bare spots...tee boxes are a joke, no signs on course directing traffic through confusing paths (first time playing here) yardage markers are hit and miss, and it took 10 minutes for someone to come in to the "pro shop" (more worried about selling fried chicken to the tipping customers) to check us in...all in all I was very disappointed in the condition of the course for the price paid...not worth the drive
Course needs some attention
My group was looking for a new course in the stl metro area that was maybe a little cheaper than the $50 or $60 rounds in the area. We were disappointed with mystic oak. Fairways needed mowing, and were full of clumpy crab grass. Rough was mostly weeds. Greens felt like shag carpet, really slow and needed mowing. It was difficult to distinguish fairway from rough. The sand traps were in decent shape but really were not a factor. I am not a scratch golfer by any means and found the course unchallenging. The layout was simple if not boring. Additionally, the play was far to slow for a relatively empty course. I realize this may have just been bad luck, but I found it frustrating to wait 10 minutes on each shot to hit off of crab grass. The staff was friendly and the clubhouse wasn't bad at all. I understand paying less equals lower quality, but this course was suffering from serious neglect. Overall I was disappointed with this course and probably won't be back.
Nice Course
This course for me is good. I know the course and I play pretty good, if you want bad to mean pretty good. I go this this course a lot because I like it.
Very Accomodating Staff
Our tee time was mid afternoon, about the time a small league was to start. The manager put us off the back 9 and we sailed. Like having the course to ourselves. The course was is good shape - a couple of fairways are struggling in late July. Greens was nicely kept. We will be back.
this course is not in very good condition
the greens are decent but the rest of the course is in bad condition
Has many different holes
Took my 14 year old son, who just started playing and had a great time. We can't wait to go back.
No fairway
Lots of dead grass spots, no defined fairways, unless you see exactly where your ball went you probably won't find it.
great staff but course needs work
You couldn't ask for better customer service. The staff is super friendly. Much better than some of the high dollar courses around St. Louis. The lay out of the course makes it entertaining for all skill levels. However, the course needs some major help. Most of the fairways are in bad shape and about 5 are just terrible. They are working on a couple of them but this was my second round at the course and its getting worse. Greens look nice and roll smooth but cut way to long. For $20 I would play again if nothing else was open. Im going to give it another shot in a month or so to check the condition out again mainly because the layout is nice and the staff is great. If the fairways improve a little its a super value for around $25 but not much more.
Course is in great shape!
I had not played since they changed names from the Ridge and switched 9's. Pleasantly surprised.
nice recovery from drought
Played there a few times last year, heat and drought were rough on course. has come back nicely this year, especially tee boxes. I enjoy it because from the senior tees it is very playable for me. I;m 230-240 with driver, so even from back tees this is not your course if you're a big hitter. The guy that checks you in is very nice, always says thank you for playing
Good for early season
I was pleasantly surprised after not having played this golf course in years. The fairways are coming in nicely. The greens were very hairy! With all the rain I did not understand why they were not cut but I am not an agronomist. If cut they look like they would roll. Overall very pleased with the culbhouse renovation and the course. A great value of golf!
Has improved, but still a long way to go
The Ridge (Mystic Oak) is a pretty easy layout as all par 4s are driver, wedge for average length hitters, and all but one par 5 requires 2 great shots to be on in 2, but the other par 5 is very short with a long tee shot leaving you with only 150-170 to the pin. Finally, the par 3s are probably a little more difficult than most courses, mostly because they are all about 165 from the whites and the greens are hard to hold if it doesn't land soft. This course has come a long way since new ownership a few years ago, that being waist, it still has a long way to go. They planted zoysia 2-3 years ago, but its still spotty in some areas. The greens are a lot nicer than they have been in recent years. The bunkers are few and are all around the greens except for only 2 holes that have a single bunker near the fairway, and one of those is so far right its just to keep a moderate slice from going out of bounds. The sand is like playbox sand that you would buy for a kid, and get hard as a rock and really can't be hit from if its rained within the last week or so. When it rains they become pond traps. One hole has a swampy area in the fairway that you will lose your ball in it goes there. While these areas have improves, they still have a long way to go. Recent issues have been that the rough is just grass left unmowed and when it is cut, they don't pick up the cut grass so you have brown lines of dead grass waiting to hide a ball that's not in the fairway. Booked tee times don't mean anything as there's been many times that a foursome has walked In, paid, and beat us to the first tee and held us up all day. Also, homeowners go out in 5, 6, and even 8-somes and don't offer to let you pass and act like you are bugging them if you ask to play through, then tell you no. These problems are more common on weekdays after 4 and weekends after noon, so keep that in mind when booking the golfnow $17 rates on weekends. I do play here often, but that's because of the $17 rate and not charging for nongolfers to ride, as I take my son to ride around and putt with me. When looking for a normal round of golf, there is a much nicer course in town for only a few dollars more, as well as 5 in Columbia.....all of which are much better well-maintained. My suggestions to "Mystic Oak" are to lower the rates until they fix the obvious issues....and fix up and open the driving range that has been left to rot.
Challenging but true
Not the hardest course in town but challenging enough to make for a fun round. Plenty of water and sand to strategize around and also with the layout makes for some difficult choices to layup or go for the green. All around great course, well kept, and will definitely play again.
A nicely laid out course that will improve as the weather improves.
Played the course after rainy and cold spring. In decent condition but expect it will improve once the late spring, summer weather arrives.
Very picturesque and nicely laid out.
Play from the back tees, and the par 5's and par 3's are certainly a challenge for everyone. Par 4's are short but require an accurate tee shot. Tough rough to play from.
If this course was in a little better shape, my 3 stars, would be a 4.
My favorite golf course in the area
Each hole has its own unique challenge and is memorable in and of itself where other golf course i go to alot of holes are pretty much the same
