Mystic Oak Golf Course in Waterloo has a diverse layout that seems to play a little differently each time you're on it. The layout features long, winding fairways and gently sloping greens, which are framed by a slew of strategically placed bunkers. There are also many water hazards that come into play throughout the golf course. The gently rolling terrain has subtle ups and downs that provide tricky uneven lies. The back nine is uniquely divided into three par 3s, par 4s, and par 5s each. The golf course will test your short-game skills but the lengthy par 5s offer driving opportunities for long hitters as well. Mystic Oak Golf Course is player friendly enough for a wide range of skill levels but you may be surprised to find yourself using all the clubs in your bag.

Don’t waste your time here
Pace of play is always so bad here. They don’t spread the groups out nearly enough. Always waiting a minimum of 10 minutes before each hole and no one from the club house even tries to speed the slower players up at all. No warning or anything. But god forbid you don’t ride the cart path they will come out screaming at you and take a picture of you and say don’t do it again. Had some older dude say we were told twice to stay on the cart path but he must have mistaken us for a different group because no one ever told us to stay on the cart path only. Really killed the vibe after that and we left after the 12 hole. Started at 12:40 and when we stopped at the 12 hole it was 3:20ish. Just way too much waiting around for the slower 4 men groups in front of us. Things need to change there before I even consider going back.
Windy! Real windy!
It was a lazy day so let’s play golf! Set the tee time, checked in and played the first two holes without issues. On the box at #3 and the wind blew the ball off the tee, twice. 3 wood off the deck there and basically the rest of the round. Greens were fast and the fairways are starting to green up. We enjoy this course but holy cow, there are people who should never own golf clubs! There group ahead of us (4) must have been let out of the old folks home for the day! We made allowances for their slooooow play and them hitting the ball into the next fairway but 16 to 20 minutes per hole is ridiculous. No marshall to be found! We made the turn and they went in to change their Depends and we teed off on 10 and never saw them again. It was comical at first to watch how poorly they were playing but after about 3 holes of it, we were not happy. When people play that bad they should let the group behind play thru. Just an overall picture of our round. When you have to wait that long it breaks your rhythm and throws the game off. The back 9 was better, much better!!!!!
Deceptive Difficulty
This course has a LOT of water but I imagined to avoid it (mostly). The more challenging part is the blind shots that can have you making poor decisions if you are not familiar with the course. This occurs mostly on the back 9 - notably #12, #13, #15. You won't likely need or want driver off all the 4s and 5s. 14 (an island green) and 15 (a par 5 with a narrow 150+ shot over a non-playable ravine) are perhaps some of the most challenging back-to-back holes I've played. Course was in decent shape for March though there were a LOT of sticks on the greens from the overnight storm. I will try this one again when it greens up.
Value
Great value here. Fun to play. Greens are better than expected. Challenging but fun for a high handicapper.
Pleasant surprise
Had a great time Getting a last-minute teatime at a very, very reasonable price. I picked it based off of reviews and the reviews were pretty accurate. The conditions were great, especially considering there was a large tournament that had just finished up. Me and a few other guys basically had the whole course to ourselves at that point. Will be back. Super friendly pro shop staff.
Fun course
Beautiful course, challenging for your average golfer.
Carts don’t have GPS but for the price not a big deal. Hole 15 is horrible.
Overall I’ll play there again it was fun!
Great shape
By far, this is the best shape I’ve seen this course in in 10 Years way to go ground crew and greenskeeper your hard work shows! There are some minor Fairway obstacles due to sprinkler head maintenance but nothing that will interfere with your game. They are well marked.
Fun course
Got a twilight rate on a great weekend to get out. Hadn’t played there in a few years. It is a fun layout.
Had some rain in the morning but by the time we got out, it was soft conditions. Most teeing grounds were solid and the fairways had some standing water. Greens were again good but lots of unrepaired ball marks.
Hit the green on the island 14th hole. Forgot how odd the 15th plays with a weird forced layup. Par 3s are fun to play.
It was late in the day but we had more than a couple times when we had to wait on a worker who was doing something on the green. First nine was a breeze as no one was in front of us. However, the back nine was stacked up and a lot of waiting.
