Crystal Woods Golf Club
About
Crystal Woods Golf Club dates back to the 1950s when it was opened as a nine-hole, par-37 course called Bit O’ Heather Golf Club, which it was known as until 1967 when the course was renamed and completely redesigned, which included the addition of another nine. The par-72 course that exists today tumbles across a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The golf course is mostly wide open, putting it at the mercy of the prevailing winds. On particularly blustery days, Crystal Woods Golf Club is quite demanding. The 12th is the course’s signature and it even has a reputation for being the most difficult hole in McHenry County. It’s tempting to be distracted by the beautiful view from the elevated tee but this tough hole requires your full attention. The double-tiered green rises dramatically from front to back, often demanding three or more putts.

Course in good shape
Always well maintained. Slow play rarely an issue.
Crystal Woods
Course was in great shape considering the time of the year, finished our round in under three hours.
Nice course for repeat play
Former member here. Miss it.great value for the money. Four tee sets make it interesting. Owners are pga pros. Nice guys. Always willing to accommodate.
Peaceful setting. Hole 12 great!!!
Great course!
After not playing here for over 30 years, I wanted to come back and play it with my high school age son. I remember it well, although the trees have gotten a bit bigger!! The greens were more difficult than I remember and the pin placements were as if it was the final round of the Masters! Thanks for keeping the course in great shape!
I LIke the 5 par Fives and 5 par threes
Like the course it has been awhile since I had played it.The only negative was playing after a outing that we caught up to and had to wait.Course should inform you before they take your money
fast greens
good all around challenge, great friendly staff who remembers people that play there on a regular basis
Challenging course and great value!
The course was in excellent condition and most of the greens were immaculate. I've played a great deal of courses where divots and such as such a problem and diminish the round, but not this course on this particular day. This was the only time I played this course and will definitely go back. Quite hilly and would recommend a cart if you have problems walking. I walked all 18 and was really spent by the 15th hole.
some interesting holes
had a good time and enjoyed the lay out the driving range needs some attention
Pricly, for what you get.
I have not played this course for more then 20 years, and now I understand why.
It a good looking course, the front 9 has lots of trees and sand traps where good. Greens have alot of movements. The BIGGEST PROBLEM IS MOSQUITO. The have a good driving driving range. Club house is good and friendly. Price is very high for a course that is only 6400 yds long on a good day.
Nice Course
Moderately difficult course with well maintained greens. Great price.
Solid track for the deal I had
It was my first time playing this course and I wanted to get out and play somewhere new. The course itself was is solid conditions and had a mixture of easy holes and challenging holes. They incorporate a lot of blind shots and dog legs on the more difficult holes. Overall the course was in good enough condition and the staff was nice enough that I would go back.
tough course for hackers
The staff is super-the fairways are narrow and tree lined-the rough is thick and finding golf balls isn't easy-the greens are faster then other municiple courses and in great shape several holes are pretty tough on hackers- the 12th par 4 unless your a long hitter plays like a five and two of the par 3s are pretty long but it's a well maintained course and fun to play
This course has lots of challenging holes
Pro Shop is very accomodating and course is well maintained
Good Course, speed of play good. Price great.
Great course and value. Speed of play great, no ranger on course but not needed.
Pretty enjoyable course.Just amzing. Likable course.
I enjoyed lots. For me ecellant and amazing course. I will be there again. Not easy course. Some challenging and looks easier but got me out. Lots trees and not even fairways and tough roughes. Enjoyable.
Great course for the ambitious average joe.
Really well maintained and suitable for a wide range of golfers. Semi-tight fairways and notable slope on the greens made it an enjoyable and challenging course to play!
I like the topography and mix of narrow and wide open holes.
I enjoy blind green shots . I am not a fan of "flat " course lay outs going back and forth fairway to fairway
I like this coarse great time for the money
Coarse is well maintained - ruff about 3 inches deep-
greens were medium speed
Staff could not be more friendly --good 19th hole bar with pub grub
Fun, good shape, good value.
First time at Crystal Woods. It is in nice shape, rough was a little long. Challenging greens. 5 par 5's. 5 par 3's. Good mixture of straight holes, doglegs and water.
Great value. Will definitely play it again.
Hot deal gone great
Never played this course before, so I was happy to see a hot deal posted for $17. Definitely worth the trip... Not a lot of water, and the holes are pretty straightforward. However, the tree-lined fairways will give you trouble if you aren't straight off the tees. Fun course, great pace, and the well worth a try if you haven't played yet.
