Crystal Woods Golf Club
About
Crystal Woods Golf Club dates back to the 1950s when it was opened as a nine-hole, par-37 course called Bit O’ Heather Golf Club, which it was known as until 1967 when the course was renamed and completely redesigned, which included the addition of another nine. The par-72 course that exists today tumbles across a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The golf course is mostly wide open, putting it at the mercy of the prevailing winds. On particularly blustery days, Crystal Woods Golf Club is quite demanding. The 12th is the course’s signature and it even has a reputation for being the most difficult hole in McHenry County. It’s tempting to be distracted by the beautiful view from the elevated tee but this tough hole requires your full attention. The double-tiered green rises dramatically from front to back, often demanding three or more putts.

I like the topography and mix of narrow and wide open holes.
I enjoy blind green shots . I am not a fan of "flat " course lay outs going back and forth fairway to fairway
I like this coarse great time for the money
Coarse is well maintained - ruff about 3 inches deep-
greens were medium speed
Staff could not be more friendly --good 19th hole bar with pub grub
Fun, good shape, good value.
First time at Crystal Woods. It is in nice shape, rough was a little long. Challenging greens. 5 par 5's. 5 par 3's. Good mixture of straight holes, doglegs and water.
Great value. Will definitely play it again.
Hot deal gone great
Never played this course before, so I was happy to see a hot deal posted for $17. Definitely worth the trip... Not a lot of water, and the holes are pretty straightforward. However, the tree-lined fairways will give you trouble if you aren't straight off the tees. Fun course, great pace, and the well worth a try if you haven't played yet.
True greens
Host to Mchenry County Amateur which I was thinking about playing, brought me here...The greens were great, smooth and true and on the quick side..fairway were OK not the best but acceptable.same for the tee boxes.Having played over a hundred courses in the U.S I would give this one a 5.5-6 on a scale of 10..
Live close by and consider this my home course.
Rarely too crowded, pace of play is usually quite good. Slightly better than average pricing can get excellent through GolfNow. Playable for all ability levels but difficult enough to host McHenry County Amateur almost every year. Excellent draft drink prices!
Good Course for the Price
The course was in fair condition, but comparable to other courses that I've played this Spring. It's been very wet (flood conditions) and very cold this past month, which has limited the amount of maintenance that can be performed. That being said, there were numerous hard-pan areas, the rough has numerous spots without grass and some of the tee boxes were in poor condition. The greens were in good condition and very undulating. Putts rolled true, but the greens were very hard to hold. This course would be extremely fun to play once the weather improves and the maintenance team works on the issues I described. I plan to play the course in June and hope that the conditions are better. Give it a shot.
Great course, bad weather.
Crystal woods is a nice course with friendly staff. Unfortunately the weather was not as nice at my time of play. The course was a little on the wet side, so the carts had to be on the cart path but that was to be expected after the four days of rain before my tee time. The wind was very high too so that made play more difficult. Overall i would say this is a great course and would definitely play it again and again.
