Crystal Woods Golf Club dates back to the 1950s when it was opened as a nine-hole, par-37 course called Bit O’ Heather Golf Club, which it was known as until 1967 when the course was renamed and completely redesigned, which included the addition of another nine. The par-72 course that exists today tumbles across a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. The golf course is mostly wide open, putting it at the mercy of the prevailing winds. On particularly blustery days, Crystal Woods Golf Club is quite demanding. The 12th is the course’s signature and it even has a reputation for being the most difficult hole in McHenry County. It’s tempting to be distracted by the beautiful view from the elevated tee but this tough hole requires your full attention. The double-tiered green rises dramatically from front to back, often demanding three or more putts.

Enjoyable!

Drove an hour to get to location and it was well worth it. Right from the start it was a great golfing experience. The staff was very friendly; the driving range was in great shape; and the course was in fabulous condition. My playing partner and I had a great day there and plan to return again in the fall. Thanks for a great experience. Well done.

Love the course condition and layout

First time playing the course. Only reason for not giving it 5 stars was because of the pace of play. Our 3some waited about 3-4 minutes on at least 16 of the 18 holes to tee off. Perhaps it was an unusually busy day on a Thurs but it was slow. Other than that, I love the course and would definitely play it again. Hopefully, the pace of play will be better next time.
