Sugar Ridge Golf Club
About
One half of Sugar Ridge Golf Club is situated in extreme southwestern Ohio while the other half winds up into the Indiana hills. The border location may be unconventional but the setting provides a dramatic backdrop. The course sprawls across rolling hills that are abundant with wildlife. Wild turkey and deer have been known to roam the golf course. The layout has a few parallel fairways though the trees, and hills give each hole a completely secluded feel. The back nine feels more open than the front, but that may only be because of the ponds and lakes that come into play on many of the holes. Throughout Sugar Ridge Golf Club, golfers will find that the par 3s are fairly straightforward and the par 5s have sloping, uphill fairways that make them feel even longer. There are a few memorable par 4s, notable for both their scenery and level of difficulty.

hidden gem
This course has improved this year. Greens and fairways are in great shape. What I enjoyed the most about this course is that there are not 2 holes with the same layout. Bunkers still need a lot of attention but overall the course is in very good condition. I played in several courses this year and Sugar Ridge is near the top in overall condition. Lots of wide life on this course. This course should not be walked. There are long distances between several of the tee boxes.
Nice course but needs a little attention
I enjoy playing this course when I am alone or playing in a two some. It is a little confusing because there is not a good flow to the hole layout. It seems that it was a 9 hole course at one time and the back nine was added later. The old 9 holes and new 9 holes are mixed together to create long cart rides between several holes. They have new golf carts that are very slow and adds at least 15 minutes to your round. Renumber the holes would make this a much nicer golfing experience. Bunkers could use attention and several tee boxes have more weeds than grass.
Overall this course is challenging with no 2 holes being similar. You will use every club in your bag. Be prepared to lose a couple of golf balls. There is plenty of wooded areas and fairways that slope causing a good shot to end up on the woods.
There is plenty of wildlife on this course.
Enjoyed the round
I am basically a bogey golfer. I had 2 birdies and shot 83. The course was in excellent shape, the fairways were super and the greens were slippery, the way I like. The pace of play was superior as I tend to play faster than most. Would reccomend this course and look forward to playing again.
Course Review
The golf course has great fairways and greens but the cart paths, sand traps and the rough are, on a whole, not in good condition and need to be repaired and upgraded.
course condition
Excellent fairways, greens were good, tee boxes needed attention. All in all great course to play. Very scenic.
Ok , not great
Fairways are very nice. Greens a bit beat up and on the slow side. Cart paths are a joke. You need to slow down every few feet or you will break the cart or yourself. Not a big fan of the guy behind the counter either. It was worth the $10 golf now deal for sure.
Great Course
Great course, awesome staff...I always have a good time playing this course. Staff is awesome!!!
Rain or shine, I'll play nine here
Last round was a rainy Tuesday with threat of storms just southwest of Lawrenceburg, however the generous staff let us and others out on the course to play. After a wet front 9, conditions cleared for a beautiful back 9. Course drained nicely. Nice outdoor bar/grill located conveniently near the turn for quick food/drink service. 30 minute drive from my house, well worth the multiple trips for the multiple rounds I've played here.
Enjoyed playing this course
Fairways and greens in great shape. Tee boxes a little rough. Overall, very good golfing experience.
Awesome back 9 which includes 8 and 9
Sugar is a good deal if you get it for 20 or less. Back 9 is totally different than the front. Back 9 is very nice front is soso. Overall descent place to play.
Nice course
Enjoy playing Sugar Ridge- course is in good shape- fun layout- typical SEIndiana with plenty of hills and valleys--good staff- pace of play is good /-
overall good shape
I have played here before and the course was overall in decent shape. Fairways and rough were excellent and most greens were decent. I had to fix some previous ball marks not done by previous players. The biggest issue was the tee boxes, they were terrible. I played from the white tees and they were some of the worst in condition I have come across in a long time.
Poor course. At Sugar Ridge
Sand traps had grass growing out of them. Greens had marks all over them. Price for the course was ridiculous. Staff at the desk did not greet us and barely spoke to us.
Good course, wacky back 9
Don't be fooled by the yardage. Plenty of tight drives and hills for challenge. Most greens sit with hills on 3 sides so if you miss you're chipping off the downslope. Back 9 is much easier than the front but it is also laid out weird. Lots of distance green to tee on the back... Wouldn't recommend walking it unless you're really wanting a workout. Staff moved our golf now tee time the day before and still have us the discount. Overall a good friendly course.
Not too Bad for the money
The course is not bad at all. Good deal for the money. However, the grounds keepers were cutting grass and blowing the fairways as we were playing (and our tee time was 10:47 am). Feel like this should have been done either early in the morning or later in the evening. Overall this was a good deal and we would definitely play again!
Horrible
While I understand that we have had a ton of rain lately, so cart path only was to be expected, the overall condition of the course was terrible. The fairways were spotty, the rough was overgrown to the point of it being unplayable, and the tee boxes were an absolute joke. I know Sunday afternoon is going to take a while, but 6:30 for 18 is disgusting. Our scheduled tee times were 12:09 and 12:18 our first group went off at 12:25 and we were ready at noon. The staff was friendly but the bar service was terrible. Got my order wrong twice. Very disappointed in my experience and don't plan on returning.
nice course, goofy layout
I played on a day that was fairly chilly, course was pretty wet, cart path only. Layout is par 37 front and 34 back, 71 par course. Plenty of dog legs, and water hazards. Most tee shots have to carry hazards, so I brought out the driver quite a bit. 4 sets of tees in fair condition. Some fairways were very soggy, hence the cart path only rule. Greens were large and fast for the most part, watch your speed! Over all had a good time. Will definitely be back when the course dries out. A lot of elevation changes so take at least 1 or 2 extra clubs uphill.
Sugar Ridge in good shape for time of year. Love new carts.
We had a break from the rain recently which allowed me to played early on a Sunday morning at Sugar Ridge. While it was a cart path only day, I felt that the course was is great shape, especially the greens. An added bonus was the fact I was one of the first players to drive their new EZ-GO golf carts. The seats were extremely comfortable and I really like the fact that it's equipped with dual USB plugs that allowed me to plug in my iPhone 6 and use my GolfLogix GPS app without fear of draining my battery. Loved all the wildlife I saw including a herd of deer (see pic) and a Tom Turkey showing off his feathers. The staff was very friendly. (see pic the ranger named John parking the cart.) There is also a picture of the USB connection. Looking forward to playing again when the weather improves.
