Sugar Ridge Golf Club
About
One half of Sugar Ridge Golf Club is situated in extreme southwestern Ohio while the other half winds up into the Indiana hills. The border location may be unconventional but the setting provides a dramatic backdrop. The course sprawls across rolling hills that are abundant with wildlife. Wild turkey and deer have been known to roam the golf course. The layout has a few parallel fairways though the trees, and hills give each hole a completely secluded feel. The back nine feels more open than the front, but that may only be because of the ponds and lakes that come into play on many of the holes. Throughout Sugar Ridge Golf Club, golfers will find that the par 3s are fairly straightforward and the par 5s have sloping, uphill fairways that make them feel even longer. There are a few memorable par 4s, notable for both their scenery and level of difficulty.

Sugar
Great course, its usually not too crowded, so the pace of play is great. I always enjoy the course because its so spread out. Also its just far enough out of town and private for me to enjoy.
Course is tough and fun, staff is not friendly though
Played here and enjoyed the course. It's tough. Lots of hills, many times you are teeing off and shooting way down hill. Its definitely fun. The staff was not very friendly, for that reason alone, i probably wont go back.
G Man
definitely worth the drive
For being November this course was excellent condition. I would definitely drive the 45 minutes to come back again
Fun course
As is expected in the fall balls are a little hard to find so pace of play was a little on the slow side at times.
Course was in good condition overall though.
Narrow fairways and blind holes make for a significant challenge since it was my first time at this course. Staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Good value for the course and condition.
Course was in an excellent shape. Greens were in the best shape I had ever seen at this course.
This Course has great features
The fairways are wide and accomodating for the occasional slice. Not too many hazards to get in the way of the approach to the greens.
The greens are good sized with a fair amount of break and somewhat fast. I managed to two putt most them.
on The Road
Great lay out every time I lost my ball found two more. Course in good condition liked the up and down hills.
Course well taken care of
The course was a nice challenge. Which I like! Again well taken care of. Nice fast greens. The right roughs. Fairways perfect. Not one bad thing about the course. Plus the price was the icing on the cake! What a DEAL!
Well worth the drive!!!
We wanted to play something new. We always play around greater Cincinnati and a lot in Northern Kentucky. Lawrenceburg is about 40 minutes from where I live.
My friend booked the tee time through GolfNow (always out mode of operation) and the price was very fair.
The short version... whoever designed this course and community is a genius. There are homes scattered around, BUT they are properly placed and far enough from the holes. Who builds a house within 20 yards of a green? Stupid. Not Sugar Ridge. WELL DONE.
The drive is really not that bad. It's within 10 minutes of the Lawrenceburg exit. The clubhouse area is really cool. They have an outside bar that we would have hanged at afterwards but since it was a holiday weekend I guess, it wasn't open. The staff was really nice and very friendly.
The practice area is not much to speak of, but it's a practice area. Who cares.
On to the course... There is a considerable drive between holes, but the signage is smart and easy to follow. The cart driving reminded me of Devou Park. Oh yeah, our cart had issues. We should have traded at the turn. Backfired almost every hole. That's on us.
My favorite is the course conditions. Whoever is in charge of maintenance... give them a raise! The tee boxes were a little worn out, but we played in the afternoon, so all the morning people hacked them up good. These are without a doubt the best fairways I have EVER played. If you keep it in the fairway you could almost use your driver again on the par 5s. They are that pristine. The greens are small compared to other courses, but they are immaculate. No ball marks to speak of and the marks that were there, people fixed them. It is not an easy course to play if you hit the ball everywhere. The rough is rough (like it should be). You will hit in patches of dirt. Keep it within 40 yards of the fairway and you'll be fine.
The layout... also well done. This was my first time playing the course, so I over drove some of the holes where you couldn't see the green from the tee box. The proximity to other holes is well done. You will hardly ever get hit into or hit into another group. Ladies will love this course too. The ladies tee box is very, very forgiving. There is a great mix of pars each with their own challenges.
I played bad. Mainly because I didn't know the course at all and I'm still getting my licks in on my new sticks. Figuring things out. BUT, I had a blast playing this course. I can't wait to go back.
Oh, it's close enough to the casino where it would be a great weekend for couples to play golf during the day and hit the casino at night.
Fun short course but still challenging
Fun course with appropriate challenge. Greens are very nice. The tee boxes need some serious work. Fairways were okay due to lack of rain. Will play again.
Challenging Course, Terrible everything else
The course is definitely a tough one. Challenge holes, narrow fairways. Fast greens. However we played twilight hours off of golfnos for a very cheap rate. When we got there we paid and went out to the carts, the only 2 carts left had been used and full of empty beer cans and just absolutely filthy. I went in and told the pro shop worker and he took his jolly old time to get us a new cart. The cart we then got was probably the oldest one there, had holes in the plexiglass window and the cart barely worked, at points I was nervous driving it because the breaks barely worked and it could barely make it up hills. Due to this junk of a cart we only finished 12 holes before they rushed us in and made us quit. Course was in subpar condition as well. Divots and ball marks all over the place
Maybe I will try out this place again not during twilight hours but as of now it's got an awful taste in my mouth.
Good times with friends
Had so much fun this time we played a second round the same day. The entire staff was great. Courtney and Brittany, our bartender/beverage cart ladies were awesome.
4 stars
Course was in okay condition. Love how they added new sand to the bunkers. For the price I will continue to golf here.
Poor conditions, pooly run
Sometimes you get what you pay for. The low price was the only good thing about our experience. I have never seen greens as marked up as these greens; ball marks and cleat marks everywhere. There was no starter which explains why we teed off 15 minutes after our scheduled time. The course had a mixed couple outing on the front nine at the time of our booked tee time so they sent us off of the back and told us we would have to wait on the turn for the outing to go through. They had an outside bar for concessions but the bartender had to go inside to get the beer and then back inside to run our credit card. Just a bad experience.
Love playing there.
I have always played well at Sugar Ridge - love the special deals I get on Golf Now.com
This course needs some TLC
The condition of the tee box, fairways, and greens were subpar. The rough looked like it hadn't been cut in weeks.
Sugar Ridge
Fairways were cut short, lots of roll. Greens were being worked on with sand, that should go away in a couple days, but seemingly late in the season.
Great course!
Tough course with a lot of relaxing scenery to sooth the punishment that this course can bring to your score card.
Value
Great value for the Golf Now price. The course has an odd layout and has golfers crossing other holes to get to tee boxes. Bunkers are mostly not maintained or have low quality and levels of sand. But for the discounted price would play again. Staff is extremely friendly and waited for us to finish an early evening round on a Sunday.
I saw that cart! Yeah, the carts need work. But the rest of course was in great shape when we played.
