HORRIBLE conditions
I have no idea how this place has a 4 star rating. I’m convinced they write their own fake reviews. The fact that they are charging 45 dollars is outright criminal. This is one of the worst courses I’ve ever played. It’s just patches of overwatered grass and dirt for greens. Horribly taken care of. I wouldn’t even play here again if it was free.
Condition
Front nine is beyond rough greens and around them..back 9 not as bad but definitely not good.
They are covering up the no grass by punching the greens
The course needs help
The course needs extensive maintenance. Many fairways are in terrible condition. The first is so bad it is closed to carts and is more a dirt and mud hole. Some greens are starting to go downhill too. Seems as if the weather and limited maintenance has caught up with Sunrise.
Great value
Found a hot deal on golf now. Pro shop guy was very kind. Carts are brand new. Fairways, greens, and tees were in pretty good shape. Rough was pretty tall. Almost every time I missed the fairway I lost my ball. I guess I should stay in the fairway. Played the round under 3 hours. I will be back.
Sunrise Golf Course
Great course for all handicaps. They have junior to pro tees that allows everyone a fair playing field.
Nice course but
Course is in great shape..the 5+ groups still an issue
Could Be So Much Better
The course needs some work. Though the greens are good and layout soldi, the fairways are patchy and uneven. But my biggest complaint is that the course, to save money, does not have a first cut of rough and is not mowed regularly. Accordingly, when we played yesterday you either stayed in the patchy, uneven fairway or trickled into ridiculous rough worthy of a PGA event. I am not joking when I say that the rough in most area was taller than your ball. This meant that the round took longer than it should (4:30 for our group) since everyone is wandering around searching for balls lost in deep rough. Our group lost at least 4 balls on good shots just off the fairway when we just could not find the shots. Additionally, the course has decided to turn several areas of fairways into links-style deep rough hazards rather than fix drainage issues. The result? You hit a great shot toward the green only to find your ball rolled into a fake, illogical hazard in the middle of the fairway created just to avoid spending a few dollars to fix a drainage issue. The course plays harder than it should for no good reason. I think the Madison Parks District has lost sight that this is a municipal course with mostly mediocre golfers. The deep rough and fake hazards need to eliminated.
Beautiful fall golf day.
Played sunrise again. The greens were in great shape and recent rain had everything softer.
Perfect day on course
Course had some spots that need repair. They told me it had just been aerated. So green were a little choppy, but expected. Staff was very friendly.
Tough conditions
This course was in such fabulous shape this spring...almost too good for a public municipal course. Now? Not good. The fairways have eroded with many widely lacking grass. For many shots we placed our drives on to nearby patch of grass rather than hit off dirt or mud. And while the fairways lacked turf, the rough was monstrous at about 3-4 inches in length making finding balls difficult. It felt like the rough hadn't been mowed in weeks. There also are numerous areas where dirt tire tracks in the fairway and rough indicate maintenance or other golfers took equipment of carts into soggy areas. Perhaps the course has deteriorated in recent months due to rain and heavy use. But it currently is in fair to bad condition.
Great Course
Course is a great hidden gem. Never gets too crowded and the greens are great. Sometimes there can be a lot of bigger groups out but never anything to complain about! I’ve golfed here 5 times in the last 2 weeks!
