A Hot Day! But fun round of golf.
My weekend foursome decided to challenge Turkey Creek. We teed off about 25 min later than our tee time but it was ok. The carts are so-so but they did get us thru the round, no windshields. The course itself was in pretty good shape, esp after the 1st hole. We completed our round in just under 5 hours. Everyone enjoyed themselves. the course has a lot of character and we will return.
County Park Course
As so often the case, public course’s pace of play can be affected by inexperienced players playing inefficiently. More importantly, too many of these players do not fix their ballparks and this, combined with cuttings and maple seeds are a big demerit for the greens condition. . Fairways and rough were well cut. . Ball washers would be welcome. There is a refreshment and bathroom building well placed at the intersection of four holes. Unique
Decent conditions early
This use to be my go too course since I lived right around the corner , they redid #9 a few years back greens are gonna be great in a few weeks a few bad spots on some fairways and near greens but that’s too be expected early on in the season. Looking forward to playing again soon
Worth the drive.
We drive from Illinois out to Merrillville, IN for a great little course that's off the beaten path. We find genuine value at this Hoosier hideout and the friendly staff helps make it a lot of fun. .
A nice round.
Was a very warm November Friday. Course was expectedly crowded. Pace of play was slowed, but it was still a most enjoyable round of golf. Hard ground conditions nurtured some fabulous roll outs on the fairways. Great day at an affordable price.
No smiling faces
On a 70° day in November you would expect to see only smiles and happy faces on the golf course. Not at Turkey Creek . No one spoke to us. Ranger was rude. We had to wait for carts to be cleaned. He parked a cart 10 yards from where we were standing. I had to ask if it was for us, to which he rudely replied, yeah. The lady in the restaurant talked with her back to me and took a few minutes to find a menu. We walked into the club house at the end of our game and must have had our invisible cloaks on. Anyway, we enjoyed our game because we are golfers. We are disappointed in the staff and hope that they were all having a bad day and not treating us poorly because we are also Black Golfers.
Worst I’ve ever seen
Unbelievable how bad the course conditions were. The saddest part is that there is obviously no signs of them even making an attempt to make it better. I was literally speechless. We were gonna play 18. We played 9 and left.
Potential
This course has potential. Cost me $15 to play all 18 with cart. Right now the 9th is under construction, so instead of being a par 5 it's a 150 yard par 3. Many cart paths are in serious need of repaving, but some areas had been recently repaved which is a good sign. For the most part, tee to green conditions were terrific, but some holes had patchy spots on the greens and fairways that need some maintenance. Overall a fun course with trees, water and slopes to contend with regularly. Not very long especially with #9 under construction, but in my opinion certainly worth the $15 to go check out a few times a season.
Nice early spring outing
The course was in good shape for this early in the season. Good weather made for a great day.
