No warning of scramble being played before our tee time when we checked in.
When we checked in for our 2 some tee time of 12:48 PM, no one told us about a scramble tournament preceding us by two groups. This scramble had teams of 8 people. Needless to say we caught up to them by hole number 8. When it took us 45 minutes to play 8 and 9, we decided to throw in the towel! We stopped at the clubhouse to complain and all that was said was you weren't able to be warned because you booked on GolfNow and you can go back and play the front nine again if you'd like! Not even a sorry for not giving us a heads up on the potential for slow play.
Nice variety of holes
This is a very challenging course with good variety of holes. Well maintained for a city course. Would highly recommend. Pace of play could be a little slower, but be patient. The price is right.
Municipal Gem
For a municipal course that gets a lot of play the course was in good shape. There is a nice mixture of easy, moderate and very challenging holes. You will use all the clubs in your bag at Michigan City South. Some water and quite a few hazard to keep it interesting. Not much sand, although I managed to hit into a few bunkers. Good value for any level golfer.
Great course
Would recommend course if you use the golfnow app to get the deals
Staff extremely friendly
Course was in great condition, staff extremely friendly and helpful.
Michigan City South Ciurse
I was hesitant to play the course, we've had a lot of rain, the course was in great shape, pace of play was great, crowded but didn't have to wait on any holes after the first hole, we played the course in 3 1/2 hours, good course for the price, but full disclosure no where I'd rather be than on a golf course, you won't be disappointed playing this course.
MC south course great value
You can't beat MC south course for value. From the pro shop guys Chris and Jared to the snack lady they are all kind and make you feel at home. Also randy the superintendent and his guys keep the south course in excellent shape. For a municipal course the greens are immaculate. The layout is lacking some, but an older course like this with small greens can still challenge your average golfer. If your in the area you won't beat the value at this course
13.49 for 18 is terrific
Bought round of 18 the night before by looking at specials in my area. Have to make sure that weather will be OK before purchase (check rainout/cancellation details). Sometimes the rounds are for 1 sometimes more golfers. This one was for 3 and hrs later another guy said he would play so I was able to get that last available in a second purchase. Everytime and at multiple courses, I just give my name and mention Golfnow and the time.
It is really that easy. Just set up an account and remember ID and PW. Its simple.
Very Enjoyable
Course was well maintained for the time of year. No leaf problems. Greens rolled true. Will definitely play again.
Very Friendly!
Staff was great and everyone I met on the coarse was very friendly. There had been a lot of rain so there were some wet and damaged areas but still very playable. Greens however were really good consistent and challenging. You can take the carts out to your car and for some that's a bonus of not having to pack a heavy cart bag. Be ready for a good time!
Great Muni Course
My first time playing Mich. City South and I was not disappointed. I had an idea the course would rate highly after playing the North Course frequently over the past 4 years. Perfectly mowed fairways and first cut roughs, which were also green, not burned out and hardened from lack of water. Greens were of the same caliber in condition. This is a very nice municipal course, try it sometime if you are in the area. Course wasn't extremely challenging, which was just fine for my game. Conditions probably weigh most heavy in my mind, anyway, having played some real "cow pastures" locally. Got behind a very slow foursome, and I was playing as a single. It was a Tuesday mid-day, so this lowered my Pace Rating. But just when this slowing began to get annoying and things were beginning to get stacked up, all of us who were stuck behind joined together to finish our rounds. Met some nice folks and really enjoyed the finish. Six of us and we were still quicker than the four in front of us.....oh well. Had a good time in the end. Give Mich. City (either North or South) a try. I think you'll be delightfully surprised, and GolfNow has some great deals going right now.
I'm not a camel!
I have played this course many times each year. I enjoy it each time. While the greens seemed to be extremely fast, the holes offer a fair challenge to the average golfer. My 90 year-old Father-in-law and I played it recently in mid-June. With temperatures in the low 80's and the sun out, however, it was VERY surprising and disappointing to find drinking water was not available on the entire course. Over the course of the previous couple of months , when I have played here, the clubhouse guy has kept giving excuses as to why they don't have the water jugs out (too cold, no cart kids to put it out etc). It is important to water available, especially for those golfers who walk! By mid-June there should be no excuses!!
Also every ball washer (when you can find them) was handle less, topless, and nearly dry. It wouldn't take much of an effort to bring the experience up to where it should be.
