Golfer Reviews
On an uptrend
I played early on a Sunday morning. I always heard that Woodlands was a fantastic course until recently. I read some bad reviews about the conditions of the course. I admit that those revies turned me off these past couple years. But this year, I decided I had to play it at least once considering I'm always in the Michigan City area. I was not disappointed. It's a nice challenge. Tight driving areas (especially) on the front 9. the greens were in excellent shape. Conditions were a bit wet, but that has been the trend this summer. There are definitely a couple rough patches in the fairways no doubt. But that would be nitpicking. The practice range needs a little TLC. All in all, a pleasant experience. Can't wait to get back. maybe next ime for twilight.
Great Golf in New Buffalo
We played the front 9 only. It’s a pretty coarse cut through the woods with hills. It was a little wet the day we played due to rain. It’s a must play if you’re in the New Buffalo, MI area!
Challenging course. Lots of long par 4s & par 5s
Course in great to fair shape. Some path damage, some rough fairways (minimal). Greens were very good to excellent. Challenging tees and hazards...bring an extra ball or two...not recommended for the beginner, but great course for novice on up. Will look forward to playing again.
Skip this course
The fee for 9 holes was $60 and when I said I could get it for $45 on Golf Now app. The worker made me sign up on the app and then I still had to pay at the course. The course is in the worst condition it has ever been, some fairways you had to move the ball 10-15 feet to find a patch of grass. $8 a beer was excessive also. On 2 of the holes while on the cart path and the cart shut down telling me I was too close to the green. Maybe $30 for 18 holes could be a value until conditions improve.
Challenging Course
Golf condition is very good. Nice layout and very challenging. Staff were great and professional.
Much improved
The Woodlands course is much improved. Last year when playing…there were fairways that were not in good shape. This year they are in great shape. Greens were excellent as well as the staff.
New superintendent.
Always loved playing this course for $55.
It went downhill in the last 2-3 years and became overpriced at $99.
We went there because all other course in the area were full.
They have always had issues with the bunkers. (8+ inches of rain)
Greens were a bit slower than normal. But putted much better.
New superintendent has this course back on the upswing.
Enjoyable couese
We had a great time. The greens were fast but the pace was slow due to the player ahead of us. Loved the GPS and Blue tooth in the carts. Everyone was very nice too.
Whittaker Woods Spring 2026
Played this course last year and it was in rough condition so wanted to give it a chance this year and I’m glad we did. Got it at a great price from golf now at $33 so the course value at that was excellent, course condition was wet and cart path only which sucked we have played other courses near there and even with all the rain the other courses were dry. Hoping they can get the drainage figured out. Seen it was rated 3 stars and I would have agreed for last year but I would give it a 4 star review.
Waste of Money
Have played here many times over the years and won’t go back. Overpriced, horrible conditions, greens like shag carpet, facilities completely abandoned. Owners do not care, multi millionaires just buying up land to sell off to pot stores, the course is not what it could be.
Could be great…
I frequent the area and always seem to play Whitaker Woods. This summer, I played twice.
This place is the preeminent public golf course in the area, and could be fantastic. Unfortunately , the course condition continues to disappoint. The tee boxes are a joke…weeds everywhere.
The staff is great, all locals doing their best but the clubhouse was dead on a beautiful Friday afternoon …TV’s off, no music, no bartender, no food except pre-made ham sandwiches. Not a soul enjoying the beautiful outdoor patio.
With some course maintenance , social media marketing, live music, & drink specials - you could get this place rockin & make some money on booze (duh.)
I was robbed
Paid $183 for 2 players and range balls. Should have known by the range condition that this wasn’t worth $83, let alone $183. I now understand why, on a gorgeous Friday, there were plenty of tee times available. The aerated greens (which I knew about) hadn’t been mowed in at least 3-4 days, weeds…..weeds…..weeds in the fairway and teeing areas. When there weren’t weeds, it was because the tee was bare.
Not what is used to be.
I’ve played many rounds here over the years. Some mistake or neglect has left the fairways, tee boxes, and greens in terrible condition. Paid $85 for green fee which added to the disappointment.
Hello just wanted to reach out I'm the Superintendent, here at the Woodlands Course at Whittaker those aren't weeds on the tee boxes it just a different variety of grass and the mower doesn't cut them we are working to getting around to getting those cleaned up. Thank you for playing the course and leaving a review. Hope that you will be coming back.
