Does anyone maintain this course?
I've played this course before and I really liked it. It has a very challenging layout...but it seems that lately they don't care to keep up the course. The greens were full of unrepaired ball marks. Some of which had clearly been there for a day or two. The bunkers had clearly not been raked in over a week, which is not surprising because some didn't even have a rake, go figure. The tee boxes and fairways were fine, but the overall condition what very poor. I would be very hesitant in booking a tee time until this course has adequate time to tend to the course.
Cart path a little rough, but course is in great shape. Nice fast carts
Enjoyed the day. Carts are fast and allowed to play through which was nice
Paid $25 for the tee time and still was not worth it.
This course has traditionally been a go to for me since it is near my work and is typically in fair condition. However, it appears that management has ceased putting money into the course for the following reasons:
1) greens were hairy, poorly maintained, and inconsistent.
2) non of the sand traps were raked and were in poor shape.
3) cart paths in terrible shape.
4) overall poor maintenance through out the course.
This was the worst I have seen the course in the last four years I have been playing it. While most other courses are thriving because of the cool weather and rain, this course is withering and can't even cut their holes correctly. I will not be back to Deer Creek anytime soon.
Course great, Managment failing
I played Deer Creek 3 times over the last week. While conditions were above average 2 of the 3 times had extremely long, 5+ hours, pace of play primarily due to extremely poorly managed pro shop personnel. The growing use of GolfNow, while a bonus with most courses, has been totally mismanaged here. Your tee time means nothing and people are sent off so haphazardly as to cause huge backups. Friday found five groups backed up the 6th hole with no sign of relief. Saturday found 6 groups on the 3rd hole, not the most pleasant start to any round. These are not slow play issues but very poor management of tee times. Over those two days 5 of the eight players I played with, while enjoying the course, said the would not return due to this issue. I played again on Tuesday to find an empty course. No problem with speed of play, able to get around in just over 3 hours. Issue with the course maintenance staff though. The staff was working hard on all the bunkers pulling sand down from the lips and defining (for lack of better term) those same lips. Much work was done but not a single trap was raked out by the crew when they completed their work. I found myself in a few of those worked on bunkers and was appalled by the conditions left behind. You could not find a single lie that was not in a foot print or rut caused by the staff. I really enjoy this course generally and like to play it often but if course management issues don't improve soon they will lose a very frequent golfer along with many more like me. It would be a shame if a fun, challenging and generally well conditioned course is ruined by poor management.
Poor use of a great course.
Had to comment about yesterday's round. FOUR groups backed up on #3. And according to the gents we where paired with the same situation happened just last week. This is a great course and challenges all our shot making skills. But I will not return. Unfortunate.
Very challenging course. Very well maintained course.
Very challenging course. Very well maintained course.
Course is in decent shape.
Played on a Saturday afternoon, which I should have known better, as it turned into a 5 hour round. We waited on almost every tee block to tee off. Other than the slow pace, the course is in decent shape. Some of the greens need some work.
Will never go to this course again.
Absolutely no marshals monitoring activities in the afternoon. 4 groups stuck on one hole!!!! Groups skipping holes as they seem fit to finish the round. A unmitigated disaster. A sad state of affairs at this Robert Trent Jones Jr course.
Nice course for the money
I played 9 on a Thursday morning and the only 2 complaints I could have were the pace of play and the lack of drinking water on the course. The pace problem was due to one group (really one guy) who though he was playing a tour match and had to take 5 minutes to size up every shot, just to chop it about 15 yards each swing. By the 7th Tee box, there were 4 groups of 2 waiting on them to clear the fairway. This is not the courses fault i know, and they actually came out and made them let us all pay through on the 8th.
I also wish they would fix the bridge on 10 where the flood washed it out. Its been almost 2 months and still cant play 10 correctly.
Not for the Money
Recently played the course and was very disappointed in the course conditions and the level of service provided to PAYING patrons. The course needs attention since the flood almost 2 months ago now, the bridge is still out on #10 and the staff can't decide or how to inform customers how to play the hole. We were not informed of the conditions when tee time was made on the phone nor informed when we arrived...Why? They just want our money and don't care about the customer experience, when we mentioned our disappointment to the GM he acted like we inconvenienced him by speaking with him, he certainly leads by example because we received the same service level from the staff that he provided...nice job!
A creek runs through the course and a storm damaged alot of it
We were members there 5 years ago and enjoyed it very much at the time . Eagle Golf took it over and members were low on the priority list. Eagle has lost it and it is not in good shape now. It could be returned to a wonderful course, but would take a lot of work. There are many other courses locally with better value.
this course is no joke
if you can not control your driver then leave it at home and drive with your 3w
I like the layout of the course
Enjoyed playing this challenging course. Will play this again.
Course is great for all levels and abilities.
I have been playing here for over 20 years and is in the best shape I have ever seen! Greens are great and roll true!
Great Layout
This is a top notch course. Excellent lay-out, well-maintained, challenging. The pace of play was a bit slow, even for a public course on a weekend, however, the quality of the course made the slow pace of play bearable. Some may think the course is too difficult, but it plays very fair. The greens were quick. Definitely get out there. I'm staying in KC for the weekend and only planned on playing one time, but I enjoyed the course so much that we are going to try to squeeze in another round.
Deer Creek
Some downed trees that need attention. The big disappointment was the 10th hole. The bridge to get to it was washed out and we stood at the top for 10 minutes waiting for our other players because there were no markings. When we checked in, should have been advised of the detour.
Great Value
Great value from GolfNow. Staff was great. Course in great shape.
Course needs work
Deer Creek used to be one of my favorite courses in the KC metro area. However, the last 3 or 4 times I've played it, it has been in increasing worse shape each time. This last time we played, it took a little under 3 hours, to play only nine holes !!! We opted to only play nine, and we DID get a 'raincheck' for a free nine at a later date, as the staff realized how slow play was. In fairness, the course had been flooded earlier in the week, and a bridge was out, etc....but, that being the case, they should have just not had the course open for play, it was that bad. I really hope the staff can get the course back into the shape that it used to be in a few years ago.
Can't wait to play it again
If your up for a challenge this is a great course. Course was really awesome!
Not for your golfers!!
Overall I am not a fan of the course. I think this course was more designed for elderly individual. Plays quite short. The course was in mediocre conditions. But the cart paths were pretty rough. I wouldn't really recommend this course to my friends!
