great place to play
great place to play course was in good shape the only thing was the greens was punch and sanded and was slow
Greens need time to heal
I always have wanted to play this place, just out of curiosity. I am glad I got to play here. It's not an amazing design masterpiece, but for a municipal course its not all that bad. It doesn't look like they moved alot of dirt building this place. But right now and probably for the next five or six months the greens are in the process of healing and some of them are pretty beat up. Apparently they lost them in the summer to a combination of excessive rain and heat. I have to say that the staff and even just the random players at this course are quite friendly, which makes you feel welcome. But until the greens get better I might want to look elsewhere for my golfing fix.
Great course and friendly staff
Love this course and all the challenges it has to offer! I know the greens are recovering as all of them in the area are but they are looking great! Was told they airlifted and reseeded two weeks ago and with the low temperatures I feel they will be some of the best around.
This ain't country club golf...
My wife and I drove up from Nashville to play Kenny's course. We had seen the facility from I-65S and wanted to check it out. This is muni golf at its purest. A token in a machine gets you a bucket of beat up yellow range balls. The teeing ground of the driving range was the worst I've ever seen (30 yrs of playing, over 200 different courses). Hard, uneven dirt with an occasional sprig of grass. We hit 5 or 6 balls (it really wasn't even worth the effort) and scooted to the first tee to get ahead of a group of teenagers who decided today would be their first time on a golf course. (After 12pm on weekdays, there are no tee times granted. First come, first served). The holes are very consistent in their generous fairways (slope 105 from tips), and the fairway grass is decent enough. There appears to be 2 kinds of rough on the course - the moderate rough just off the fairways that is somewhat challenging . Then there is the severe rough that is oddly placed on certain holes. This rough is more like an effort to save mowing money than a strategic addition to the golf course. It is very penal. I can't remember having seen more than a handful of bunkers on the entire golf course. The course itself is monotonous in design and the greens were sadly very poor. While the grass on the greens was lush, they were excessively soft and extremely slow. I would guess they were running about 7 on the Stimp and very uneven -it was hard to get a true roll. Unless this is your typical green experience, prepare to lose 5 strokes putting, trying to get the ball to the hole or to hold its line on a delicate putt. The staff was friendly and the restroom clean. For $30, I suppose it was a decent value and offered the opportunity to work on your game. But make no mistake, this is muni golf at it's purest.
Fun Course
A fun course is when you can remember the holes you played after the round. This course allows you to do just that. Nice elevation changes, a few risk reward holes, and a even an eagle hole for the average golfer. This is a second shot course...easy to get off the tee but make sure you have a plan for the second shot. I have played this course at lease 20 times since Feb 2014 and the course has been in good shape every time... in the winter months too. Very nice putting green but the Driving range needs a little work. The back nine will flood sometimes after a good rain which can make the back nine a mess but the front nine is so fun you won't care.
Good course, much improved
Course is in good shape, appears to be much better taken care of than the last time i played. Clubhouse staff is very friendly, grounds staff weren't very considerate. Had guy mow a circle around us while we were hitting, also had a guy digging some draining in the fairway during peak hours. Overall It has a lot of elevation changes, with every approach type you can imagine. Other than maintenance the greens, tees, and fairways were in perfect shape. Lots of fun to play.
Needs water on fairways
Course is owned and operated by Kenny Perry & family. Greens are good. Layout is good. Needs water on fairways. Clubhouse has lots of Kenny's bags, photos & badges.
