Always a great course
It has great views and they keep the course in good shape
Getting better but still room for improvement
Over the past couple years this course has improved it's overall condition. It used to be horrible! Grass fro tee to green always seemed like it was 1 hot day away from burning up and dying. But it appears they are starting to take better care of the course. The bunkers are still badly in need to some TLC, but most other areas of the course seemed O.K. My biggest concern was the pace of play. 4hrs and 30 minutes in and I had to drive off the 17th fairway to make an previous commitment.
I like the course layout a lot. There are few holes that really challenge you, a few with high risk/high reward, and several that are straight forward and fun to play. It's a good track.
At $35 it is a fine course. Cheaper would be better. More than that, I wouldn't play.
Good course
Was challenging and was in good condition. I would diffidently play this course again soon.
Great design, well maintained
This course offers a challenge for all ability levels when played from the correct tee box. Bent grass fairways reward straight shots with lots of roll. The roughs will punish you, if you are not. The greens roll beautifully, with fair but challenging slopes.
the front side is links style golf, and easier to score. The backside is more target golf, with more opportunities for penalty strokes.
This course is one of the best values in the state - a great track for the money.
Tricky for the first timer
Pace of play was great until hole 8 where we ran into "resident" players in front of us for several holes and they zigged and zagged and took their time everywhere. Many blind shots make this a tough course for the first timer, me, especially if you don't have electronic overview, gps, or a guide. Lots of water and sand. Some sand traps were hardpan. The worst part of the course is the greens. They had enough undulation to make them fun, but they were hard as rocks, smallish, and very marked up. Fix your ball marks people!
Good course
Very nice course in excellent condition. Fast greens but hold. Need to be below the hole on a lot of the greens. Tight fairways with some water. Lots of sand traps around greens and in fairways. If there is one complaint it would be the condition of the sand traps. They are raked but either need more sand or dug up. I would play this course again.
slow back nine
I do not know if they let some groups tee off the back however we made the turn and there was two groups waiting to tee off and one group just left the tee. Painfully slow on the back nine
Long day
Used to be awesome and the best public in the area. Now it's turning into a goat track that's a free-for-all. Members do whatever they want and don't worry about anyone else. Nearly five hours to play mid afternoon on a Thursday. No starter, ranger or beer cart. Range has turned into a cow pasture and I am shocked at the way this course is now run, how it looks and the overall condition. Very dissapointed with the overall experience. Two thumbs down.
great course conditions
great course conditions and many very interesting holes
will pay a lot more for similar course in chicago area
Good time Good Layout
Had a good time except for the fivesome that would not let me play thru the last 5 holes Had to wait they knew I was there Had to sit in the rain waiting.
Great links style course
I always enjoy playing Hunters Ridge. It's one of the more interesting courses in Iowa as we don't find too many links style courses. It's always well maintained, has excellent facilities, and the staff is always friendly.
Fun and challenging
Hunter's Ridge is a golf course that can be played by a wide number of skill levels. The course has a wide range of tee boxes to accommodate any level of skill.
The course requires you to hit the ball well but rewards you with bent grass fairways when you do. For this time of the year, the course was in great shape.
The front 9 is lined with houses but sets up for some birdies. The back 9 is much different and requires more course management. There are some birdie holes but more hazards come into play. The Par 3s are much more difficult than the front 9.
Overall, this is the most fun you can have at a golf course in the area. There isn't another public course that can compare to the quality of Hunter's Ridge.
If you are new to the area or have never played this course before, I would recommend stepping out of your comfort zone and have some fun in Marion.
