Fun course. Always great conditioned greens. Can get hot in the middle of the day.
A real gem
Great course, beautiful views, vacation resort quality, friendly staff.

Great Course
Play often. 4 sets of tees make it fun and challenging for all golfers.
Great course, average conditions, poor etiquette
So the course layout is great, and I understand it doesn't filter water well, so the course is in rough conditions.
The worst part, and the part that will keep me away for a long time, is the etiquette of the regulars.
We started to tee off, but a group of members went off in a group of 8. The very friendly staff let us go off the back. We played the hole, driving to our balls, and finishing the hole. Someone in a golf cart stopped by the green as we putted out. As we approached the cart, the guy said they were cart path only. I apologized, and stated that I was not aware, and that we would follow that rule. His response was "well there's a sign at the front desk"...in the most accusatory and rude manner. THAT was not appreciated. The staff at the desk didn't know who that would have been, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, and assume it was a local person who thinks they know the game of golf. I've played since I was 7, and over the past 30 years, most have been at this course, before and after the renovation...and my father even longer.
The second thing, is that we played the back nine in about an hour and a half, playing well...then got behind 3 groups, playing best ball, that never once apologized, offer to let us play through, and were in their little world. I get it...we play quickly, but play ready golf. It took over 3 hours to play our second nine.
I can get over poor conditions, I have always enjoyed the staff at this course over the prior 30 years, BUT the level of slow play, and rude attitudes, cannot be forgotten.
I have other local friends that have sworn off this course for this reason, and now, so have I. I hate it, I love the challenge this course presents, BUT I deal with rude people in my job daily, and will not, while enjoying a past time.
Course was recovering from plugging their greens as well as heavy rain so with all things considered the course was in good condition. Needs to better schedule tee times. The course was overbooked and that showed with stacked up tee boxes.
Always a pleasure
The course is in great shape. Kentucky really takes a great pride in their state park golf courses. Worth the time to find one near your area. Great deals on Golfnow. The staff is very friendly and helpful. course is a good challenge for all levels of golfers. Beautiful scenery. I've played here year after year, never disappoints.
Nice Course
I enjoy Playing Burnside. It offers a great selection of tee boxes for all golfers. Nice fairways and greens. Some blind tee shots but offers a wide range of shot making opportunities. Great course if you’re in the area and worth the trip if you’re near the Somerset area. Must play!
Course needs to green up.
Course is OK if you need to get out of the house. No grass yet and very muddy. It will get better.
Love the course
I’ve played this course at least 100 times and never fails to be in great condition for the season. Some of the bunkers are truly pure gravel right now, I would imagine trying to improve drainage with a gravel bed. Other than that the fairways and greens are always in near perfect condition, as mentioned earlier for the season. Best fairways and greens I’ve played in Kentucky by far.
Best in the county
The greens are slick. The bent grass is perfect in the fairways, provided I hit them. Love to play here.
Great Course
Maybe I’m a little harsh by not giving it an all 5-star review, only diminished by a lack of club house amenities. Even after 2 days of rain and a cold spell, this course is still the cream of the crop in southern Kentucky. Excellent drainage, soft fairways, and tough greens, this is a beautiful course that is almost always in perfect condition. I would recommend this for anyone from beginner to professional. Enjoy.
Rangers on the course. Really!!!
The play was super slow. We had a foursome and a threesome in front of us. These men were playing a money game and thought they were on the SR. PGA tour. Now saying this there were two so called rangers riding around looking at the scenery I guess.
They need to turn in their Ranger badges because not a single word was said to the two groups in front of us. We even went back and played a hole over to create space between these players. That didn't work we caught them. I would only recommend as long as you don't to follow the Burnside Tour Players.
Very fun course when your golf game is on
Best course
Well kept
Incredible layout
Great value
3 thumbs up
A course with 2 personalities
The front nine is wide open, easy to see and understand. The back nine requires many blind shots and plays much longer than the yardage suggests.
Overall, the course is very interesting. The back nine especially, requires strategy and accurate shots.
Great place to play. Course is always in great shape
Jewel of Kentucky
As many who play golf already in the bluegrass state, finding a good golf course can be a difficult feat. General Burnside has all of the components of what make a course great and for a very reasonable price. The course amenities are very bare but the staff is very accommodating and pleasant. He course had received a lot of rain over the past few days and was very wet in places but surprisingly playable. The fairways and greens were well manicured and the pin placements well thought out. The fairways never leave you with the same look at the flag due to their many undulations. The greens are elevated with challenging multiple tiers on many. The course is not particularly long but plays much longer than the yardage suggests because of the elevation changes. I had a great time playing this course and plan on putting it into my regular rotation.
