Barren River Lake State Resort Park Golf Course

the guy running the pro shop the evening of Oct 21, 2025 needs a lesson in customer service. I got there at 2:30 and asked if I could play. he seemed like it aggravated him that I would even ask. he said you can play nine holes. I asked if I could pay for 18 and if I wasn’t finished by 6:00 I would stop and bring the cart in. he said 6 means 6 and not 6:15. I understood that…but, it was his attitude toward me that was poor. I said I’ll just pay for 9 and see how much time I have r the turn. he said I had to play the back 9 because the front was crowded. I teed off and immediately came up on a group with 6 people. after two holes they let me play through. but there was two foursomes directly in front of them who did not let me through. I still made the turn at 4:30. I went in the pro shop and asked to pay the difference and play as much as possible if the front. I was sure I could finish well before 6. he said I guess, but you have to have cash. I said I do. it was 13.00 and I handed him a 20 and he refused to accept it because he had “already counted the money”. all he would have had to do was open his bag and give me 7.00 and stick in the 20. I said really? he said yep sorry. I was only trying to make the very most of a perfect day after work because there won’t be many more left this season. this guy’s attitude ruined what could have been a good afternoon of golf. I have worked at Dale hollow for 8 years in the past and this sort of service would not have been okay. I’ve never had a problem with anyone at barren river either until today. the new greens are great. the service is usually on par with what you would expect. today, I was made feel like he hated to see me come to play golf. he was hateful and standoffish from the start. I’m giving two stars because the greens are great. if not for the poor attitude from the guy working the pro shop I would have gladly given 5 stars.

Most tee boxes moved up or over to grass. They didn’t even try to make them level.

Greens had been punched and they didn’t disclose that.

But did make sure to tell you cart path only.

Great course but the fairways need water so bad it’s like playing off concrete

Paid to play with 3 friends of mine in total of $75. Drove 45 mins to the course just to find out it was closed and didn’t get to play.

Had a beautiful fall day to get 18 in.

Course was in pretty good shape considering the bermuda fairways have gone dormant and browned.

They do not have a driving range, only a net by the first tee. There is a putting and chipping area.

Lots of roll in the fairways and don’t even think of hitting in the rough. You will do well to find the ball. The rough is understandable right now. It’s Bermuda as well and they had to let it get taller to last until spring.

Challenging layout. Not a long course, but lots of elevation changes, blind shots, and doglegs.

Greens were in great shape.

One of the better golf bargains in the area.

This course is great. The staff are friendly and generally helpful.

I have played this course multiple times! Love everything about it!

Played here quite a while ago and decided to visit before heading to Fairfield Glade. Glad I chose to play here as it was a nice test with the elevation changes. Will definitely go back!

The course is challenging but fun. The hardest part is getting use to the super slow greens. I really never got use to the slow greens. I think they just need mowed a bit shorter. Other than that they were in great shape.
