Golfer Reviews
Improving Course
I have played this course over the years. It is now being run by Homeowners who are investing alot of time and money in club and it shows. Bunkers are being repaired, tees are being sided, clubhouse was totally renovated, new carts. They hired a PGA Professional to run club. They also have complete pro shop which I have not seen for years. I had lunch and it was great. I will come back. Finally someone cares and is fixing this course.
Course was in Rough Shape!
I had been excited about getting to play this course....but when I got there, I have to say it was a little disappointing. The staff was very nice....and the course wasn't crowded (it was a Tues), so we went out as a twosome. The pace was OK....and a slower foursome let us play through which kept the pace very good.
The course condition was not very good. Admittedly, it has been raining/snowing for quite a while, but the course was awful damp and totally unkempt. They were trying to fill in some of the sand traps -- but most were little lakes. It was also hard to find yardage markers. Over all - poorly kept.
Perhaps I will play here again when the weather is nicer, and perhaps the course has recovered from a rough winter, but I won't go out of my way to do so. I did like the nets they had set up for practice/warming up for driving. Putting green nice as well.
Decent Course
It's a little short but if you miss the fairway by too much you can get in trouble easy. Liked the back nine better than the front.
No driving range to warm up in so I didn't like that but the staff was nice and they offered to let us go out early if we wanted so that was nice.
Furlough Golf
So payed $32 for 18 including cart. Now got to the course to find this also included 2 drinks in the bar which was a nice perk. A couple of tee box's need a little attention and a few of the greens had some minor issues. Overall the greens rolled very well. You don't have to be a big bomber to do well, in matter of fact accuracy is much more important on this sometimes tight layout. There are a couple of forced carries from the mens tee of 140 yards, so if you can't fly the ball from the mens tee's 140 yards, then this may not be the course for you. Overall I was pleased with the course and would play it again at this price.
Course Challenge
Hello all this is a nice course that will help you work on your long and short game. Some of the fairway can be a little flattened/hard. Over all a good experience.
nice layout and fair for good shot placement and ball striking.
The greens were nice, rolled nice and true. They are on the slower side compared to some other courses in the area, but once you get the speed right, you can score.
Course management a must, easy to get into trouble
Walden golf club is a great for the money course , the greens were in great shape which made up for the fairways that could use some attention. I enjoy playing this course because you have to use your head , it's easy to get yourself into trouble with poor shot selection. If you're a bomber bring plenty of balls you'll need them !
terrible shape
I have played this course regularly for the past 10 years, right now its in the worst condition I have ever seen. tee boxes have no grass just sand and dirt, greens are so slow and in terrible shape. Overall it has really been let go, I hope they can get it back into playable shape.
Aeration Definitely Hindered Play
For the lunch special, I thought I was getting a bargain but with only the back 9 open and aeration being recently completed, the round became a practice round.
The course has such potential, and I would be interested in playing the course after aeration is complete.
Possibly Worst Conditions I Have Ever Played
The current condition of this golf course is deplorable. There really is no excuse, as this year's weather for growing has really been good/great. The fairway conditions were poor. The tee boxes did not have a single blade of grass. The greens should not be able to be called greens. The course might as well have advertised sand hazards in the middle of the greens. This golf course is months away from turning into a housing development. I will not be back to this course, and I will steer others away from wasting their money.
Would like to play this course again when it's better shape
When we arrived we were told that the front 9 was closed and we could play the back 9 twice? My wife didn't want to do that so we just play the back 9. We found all of the greens had been recently plugged and were sandy. We had never played Walden before and found the layout to be interesting. I would love to play this course again when it's in top condition. The course could be a diamond in the rough if it had a little more TLC. I'm not going to unfairly crtique this course until I play the entire 18. I like the layout but not the condition of the course. the gentlemen in the pro shop was very polite and accomodating.
Needs work.
I played here once before and don't know what happened. This place needs to place a major emphasis on the fairways and greens; both were in rough shape. I've just starting golfing and thought you were to supposed to hit off of grass in the fairways, not concrete. I won't be returning.
tougher then the score card shows
I have been a member here for 12 years and yes we have had some issues. This is a shot makers golf course and unless you play it more then once you will say it is tough. New managemet has done a very good job in just two months. Right now the fairways are in great shape and the rough will beat you up. HIt the ball straight and you will enjoy yourself, For the reasonabe rates they charge it is well worth the money.
Winter condition
Nice layout, fun to play. Got around real fast, not many golfers at the end of March. Snow had just left so no work had been done yet and condition reflected that. Still it was a fun fast round to start scraping the rust off my game. Traps, greens, and geese were the negatives. Fast pace, fun / challenging layout, and great price were the positives. Would definitely like to play it again when course condition is better..
Maybe in 1992...
As it stands right now (we played on 4/28/13), this course is in pretty bad shape.
The fairways were verrrry fuzzy - they either hadn't mown them that day (a Sunday?!?), or the mowers were set really high.
The rough was maybe - maybe - 75% filled in. There were bare spots all over the place. Made for some very tight lies, and more than a few profanity-laced tirades from our group.
The greens were still recovering from aerification ON APRIL 28th!!! C'mon, that's just unacceptable for this region.
The sand traps were a mess, too. At least it appeared that they were trying to restore them, but they were not really playable at that point.
Overall, this course looked and felt like it had been neglected for a long time. Really a shame.
Now, for the good: If they could ever get this place back to what it must (I hope) have been when it opened, in 1992, then they'd have a real winner on their hands. Great layout. Very challenging, but mostly fair. And the greens could be really good.
Again, as the course stands right I wouldn't waste my money to play there (I'd probably only pay $30-35 max.). If you really want to waste your money, but would like a little better conditions, go play Glenn Dale. They're way overpriced too, but at least their course is in decent shape.
Short but challenging
The course is a short but uses tight fairways, doglegs and hazards to make it a challenging one.The tee boxes and fairways were well maintained but thought it was a little late in the season to just now aerate the greens. The staff was friendly and we did receive a discount for the greens. I will play there again.
It looks like they're getting this course together
I play the course typically a couple times a year and recently played it for first time this season and noticed they're putting considerable work into getting greens and bunkers into shape which has been a issue in previous years as well noticed some irrigation issues have been addressed ,I was worried this course was on it's way to failure but it appears it's making a big rebound ,challenging trek and a good value ,enjoy
