Golfer Reviews
Good course, poanna greens are interesting
This is a good community course. The layout is interesting and there are elevations, creeks, lakes and trees that make it challenging at times. Tee boxes are ok, fairways are good. But the greens hadn't woken up all the way and the putting was a little jumpy. Overall, I would play it again.
Comfortable Course
The course provides some very good challenges ranging from dog legs, water hazards to especially the tightness of some fairways. This was our first time playing this course and we will definitely go back again.
Course needed some work
It was good to play somewhere new, however the course needed plenty of work.
Challenging course..beautiful features
Make sure your hitting them straight. I really enjoyed this course but if you have a slice beware. There are several holes with homes on the right and also a street with passing cars. I didn't expect the course to look so well in early spring. Wetlands, ponds and highly guarded greens make this course so much fun. I will be back!!
Had a pretty good round. Course was in good condition.
Course is beginning to get into shape. Still needs some attention but that is understandable for this time of year. Looking forward to how it'll play in a couple of weeks. Loved it last year. Good course for a good value
A decent track when properly maintained
Course was devoid of any maintenance--no sand in bunkers--greens awful
Water wasn't the only hazard.
This was my first visit to Walden. As a newcomer to the course, having so many signs down made it difficult to maneuver. Even getting from one hole to the next was a task. I like the course and would return, but most of the discomfort could be addressed quickly and inexpensively.
Decent couse, challenging layout
Very much in early spring condition, bunkers need a lot of work. Will be interested in playing again when everything has had a chance to grow in
Nice layout with winter conditions
I enjoyed the layout, and so did my girlfriend. There is lots of water and traps. Bunkers were not raked, some tee boxes were being repaired and the course is definitely being set up for next summer. But we had fun and really enjoyed the course. There is no driving range, so think about hitting balls before you get to the course.
A quirky layout with some conditioning issues.
Walden is a hybrid course, with an original back nine layout and a newer front nine. Some of the holes, like the par 5 2nd, border on ridiculous. Even after a good drive, to go for the green in two requires a difficult shot from a downhill lie to a tiny green surrounded by hazards. Even a layup is difficult, since the landing area is not clearly visible and the fairway slopes to the left into a lateral hazard.
Some of the holes on the original back nine are also quite difficult. The par 5 10th is difficult to reach even in three shots since a transverse water hazard requires a layup on the 2nd shot unless you hit a monster drive.
Conditioning is an issue on some of the greens. The course was originally semi-private but I suspect they are having trouble maintaining a membership base.
Waste of money.
Played this course in prime of summer. Course was rock hard and poorly maintained. You were better off in the rough, some grass, then the fairway which played like concrete. I would spend your time and money at better courses such as Renditions or Cross Creek then play here!
this course is very challenging
It was excellent even there were no sign boards at many holes. Tks
Course is getting better eveytime I play.
Its a good practice facility, no driving range (2-spots) hitting into a net? For the most part it's getting better everytime I play, this being the 4th time in 2012. Still needs some work but it looks as they are putting in the effort.
Great course for short hitters.
Great little course. Course length is less than 6,000 yrds, so great for someone like me who isn't a long ball hitter.
very nice layout -- great variety of holes
this course was a very pleasant surprise. a lot of beauty on many holes. fairways and greens were in decent shape this late in the season. way too many leaves on too many greens, however; a little more effort to remove them would have been appreciated. they could improve playing conditions by adding more yardage markers -- they're too hard too find right now. a few marshals would have sped up the pace of play, which was a bit too slow.
the mix of very short and medium par 4s was fun. the longish par 3s were excellent and challenging. at under 5900 yards, the white tees are a bit short; but the green tees were longer than we wanted. another set of tees in between the current whites and greens would be great.
will definitely want to play this course again in the future, but only in spring or early summer (without all the leaves). also, some will be turned off by all the houses on the majority of holes, but we didn't find them a problem.
Great track for the money
I had off the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and wanted to get out and play. Most public courses in the Baltimore area were packed. I found this course on Golfnow and got a hot deal to play for $17. The course was virtually empty. It was in good shape for November and I was very impressed with the shape of the greens. My only complaint was the lack of yardage markers and signs on the course to show which way to drive to each hole. It looked like many hole signs were down so maybe they are fixing things up for next season. I would play here again.
Overall good shape
The course was actually in very good condition. I really enjoyed playing it and the fairways were in great shape on most holes and the greens were smooth and clean. There were the occasional sand spots on the greens but only on a few holes. Overall the course was on very good shape. They did a great job of leaf removal in the fairways and most of the rough.
Interesting coure with a variety of hole-types
Course was in good condition. Pace of play was fine with minimal waiting time. Only complaint was with the traps--they appeared to be hard packed sand which was very hard to hit out of. Don't know whether i was the sand itself, or simply not have been raked or fluffed-up for a long time. Lost several strokes playing out of this near-concrete condition which seemed to be the case for all of the traps.
