Walden Golf Club
I rated this course somewhat challenging because it isn't in great shape, but that may be a function of their budget. They've lost sections of some greens, and fairways are a mix of burned out areas, nice grass, weeds, and other stuff (we've had very little rain in the last few weeks in this area).
The greens are exceptionally slow (5-6 stimp?). I told my wife this is what it was like putting back in the 1960s.
There are also several tee shots where you'll need to work around overhanging branches (on #11, from the forward tees, my wife would have to aim at the bunker to the left side of the green, as tree branches blocked the direct approach. I had the same issue on a few tee shots from the blue tees, which forced me to hit some different drives to keep the ball in play.
The staff and crew are friendly, and with some work/$$, they could make this an enjoyable course. There are a lot of holes with good shot values, but several where you just don't know quite what to do either off the tee or with a layup. By all means, use a range finder/Garmin when playing here.
Bang for the buck
This course offers good pricing in an area where courses are getting too expensive. Staff is always friendly. Pace of play is pretty good and there are rarely problems.
Never again
Greens are terrible, no grass patches. Trees are hanging over fairways on numerous holes at the tee boxes. My cart was terrible. It kept turning off. The bunkers are garbage. Hard, no sand, terrible. Does not look like grass seed has been used in years. Grossly overbooked. 2 groups deep waiting at some holes.
Walden
A fun day. The start is great and like the former Air Force starter. The pace slowed down but the Marshall came by twice and pushed folks.
A few tee boxes need work.
I bogeyed #2 so life was good.
Long Time Player @ Bay Hills
This place is lightyears above what it was compared to the previous owner as far as the course conditions go aw well as the building. They've replaced those rotted wooden stairs so you don't have to worry about using the outside stairs anymore, and the course is in GREAT shape.
However, STILL no water in the coolers on a hot sunny day. STILL no cart person out there with water/beer/snacks on a hot sunny day. STILL no ball cleaners on the cart or at each hole. STILL has HORRIBLE pace of play on a nice day. I get the course wants it's money, but you could charge more per round if you were more on point!!!
Thank you thank you THANK YOU a million times for caring more about the greens and trimming back the trees n such, but let's get competitive versus other courses. Bay Hills could be extremelyyyyyy nice if it wanted to be.
Love this course and I will be back many times! Might join one of the weekday leagues too I don't know, but there's my two cents lol. Cheers
Needs Work
I had a 7am tee time with 3 others. Staff was super friendly. Course layout is challenging as it is very narrow and you have to play smart golf as the fairways are broken up in several areas. The tee boxes were horrific, grass nearly as long as the rough so teeing off was a challenge. Not a single bunker was well maintained as they all looked like holes a forest. The greens were not well kept either, long think grass, dead spots and divots everywhere. Additionally, there is no driving range. Finally, the kitchen was not open prior to teeing off. I am fine with that due to early tee time. However, at the turn, approximately 9am, still not open. If it were during the week, I may give a pass but this was on a weekend. Will not go back as the price is not commensurate for the course or the title of “county club”. Very dissappointed.
Good place for you $, it needs real sand on bunkers or at least clean up pebbles & stones that xan damage your clubs.
Good value
The putting greens were slow, needed a cutting. Overall, got a great deal to play a round of golf with my son!
Course Layout
Some of the holes have narrow fairways. Some holes have houses very close to fairway. In hole #2 cannot see the pin or fairway due to the uphill nature after teeing off. We had some good Tee shots on that hole but lost our balls since the balls landed on the other side of the hill without knowing where it rolled. Also, LOTS of poison ivy.
