Excellent course
Great corse coming from Baltimore. Definitely worth the drive.
Windy Rock
Wind if 20, gust of 30mph....course in good shape, would have been nice to be notified that the greens were aerated BEFORE booking the round. However, at $48 it was still a steal and well worth it.
Difficult to tell
When I lived in Alexandria Virginia, I’ve always wanted to play Bulle rock. After 26 years, I finally got a chance to play. Right away I was a bit disappointed when I was told that only the front nine was open and the back nine was being aerated as I was checking in. The front nine was good. Layout was OK. Play with a member and he was very friendly. Glad I got a chance to go play golf in the middle of March but not for the $50 I paid on a teacher salary for this course. My comments may be a little different if I had a chance to play the back nine which seems like The prettier nine.
One of my favorites in the state!
The course was in great shape for the beginning of Jan and the staff were awesome! The guy in the Pro Shop did me a huge favor and shockingly, the range was open before our round on real grass! The course was playing extremely tough due to the wet conditions but it was still really enjoyable. As long as the price is right, I will definitely try to make the hour journey back to this memorable course!
Delayed Start
Bought Hot Deal for 10:30 tee time, just hours before was emailed about a tee time adjustment to 10:50. Pro shop had no clue about adjustment. Contacted Golf Now and no response as of yet. Cart path only but felt it could have been 90 degree rule. Was sent off the back nine, not sure why. Tee boxes had not been moved in awhile and even two clubs back you had to really look for a spot to tee the ball up and get a good stance.
played on 12/26 and it was 45 degree and sunny. can't complain for $48 deal and worth of driving one hour. impressed with course layout and I am looking forward another round in spring.
Winter Conditions
The course is in good shape for late December. The conditions are typical for this time of year, the bunkers are in bad shape, but the fairways are better than average. The greens were pretty good, rolling about medium speed. It was cart path only and we easily got 15,000 steps in.
Good course
Always been a favorite of mine in MD. They have lowered the geeen fees from $130 to $99(peak) so that brings it more inline with the other area courses.
Great golf course; slow pace of play
First, I love this golf course. It's one of the top courses in Maryland and by far the best public course. My only complaint is the expected pace of play is 4:45 (according to the ranger), which is unacceptably slow for a course of this quality. It was cart path only, which slows things down, obviously, but a course this good should expect a 4 hour round, 4:15 tops. We waited on every shot and there were sometimes four groups on a hole. There was a ranger riding around, and he was a nice guy, but his view was that everyone was playing ahead of pace. There was a threesome two groups ahead of us and they let a single off after them. The started told us he would catch and join the threesome--never happened. He caught them right away, but continued to play separately. He waived us up off the tee while he was waiting, which helped some, but it didn't make much sense or them never to join up. We only finished 15 holes because of darkness. We got a good rate, but with a proper pace of play we would have come much closer to finishing, even with cart path only.
Best Public Course in Maryland?
It's a good golf course....no doubt about it. However, I can think of 4 courses in the Frederick, MD area alone that I would rather play. To be fair, the golf course was so wet that we here losing golf balls IN THE FAIRWAY. Also there seems to be a lot of regulars (members perhaps?) that seem to only be interested in playing speed golf. We were a 3- some playing at about a 4 hour pace. We let one 2-some go through and had another on us with " hands on hips" constantly. Call me crazy, but on a beautiful day on a nice "high end" golf course, I really don't feel like playing hockey! Maybe I'll try this place again next year at a dryer time. Until then I'd be just fine playing Whiskey Creek, Maryland National, Worthington Manor or Musket Ridge. These are all better courses IMO...and they have better views!
Fun place to play
Excellent facility. Beautiful layout and course was in great condition. Very fair, but challenging course. We played in 3:40 on a cart path only day, and had no one in fornt for 15 holes. Nice proshop and great staff.
Great Shape
We have had a lot of rain but the course was in great shape. The rough was really thick with the moisture. Hard to score but enjoyable to play.
Bulle Rock is very nice course
This was the first time my son and I had played this course. It is a very nice course. The only negative was that it was cart path only because of recent rains. Also, they had an outing going on and all the pin flags were white so it made it difficult to know where the flag was at on the green. We would definitely play it again.
Quite a Hike from DC; Dye being Dye
For those considering playing this course that live in the DMV make plans well in advance. It's a very long drive and while worth it, you won't want to do it again for a while.
This Top 100 Pete Dye track owes more to it's ranking thanks to it's architect than the actual course. While there are many fine holes, it may not blow you away like others. There's a fair amount of variety and challenge as is typical for Dye, but the course is unyielding if you choose to play the wrong tees. My recommendation would be to play up 1 tee box and have more fun, than trying to be a hero and stuck hitting long irons and hybrid approaches all day.
