Par 3 17th Photo submitted by Golfermom94 on 10/28/2013
Value
Great value for the money. Don't let the yardage fool you this course is more difficult than you would think. Loved #17.
Only if you Hit'em Straight
The fairways can be very narrow at times with either woods or homes on both sides. Greens ran a bit slow and did follow the contours. If your used to wide open fairways, this will be a challenge. It is fun and and could be a slow pace. The fairways and greens were in pretty good shape.
All good but no clubhouse
Course was in good condition. Friendly staff. Very limited clubhouse functions. Not a place to take a client.
Short but demanding layout. Would play here again for the value.
A nice ride but you can't walk this course
Was paired up with a twosome and a sigle. Had a very pleasant round. It seemed like we waited on each hole but our pace of play was just about the pace listed on the scorecard. The course was in good shape and the greens were beautiful.
course is fair and fun
enjoyable course will definitely come back to play again.
Short course that will test all aspects of your game
The fairways could have been in better condition, they appear to have some sort of disease in some parts (patches of rooty grass that's not easy to hit from). Tee's were in decent condition, greens were excellent but speeds varied from green to green.
All said, it's a tough little course that will test your game. Played from the back, blue tees at 6000+ yards. The only thing about the course I'd change is the 100% uphill, par 5, 18th hole. It's a bad hole but was obviously designed within the parameters of a townhome community.
On another note, the course is home to the Howard County First Tee program, which teaches kids the game of golf. Will play there again.
Course Condition
The course condition just doesn't seem to improve. greens are getting maybe a bit better but fairways are still burned up.
I'm not too impressed and the green fee is a bit steep for what you get.
I would recommend this course for friends who live nearby but not for "daily" playing. there's better courses in the baltimore area too.
Nevet a dull moment on this course.
Great layout with interesting holes. Greens are perfect.
A walk well deserved
This golf course is a beautiful course to walk. It is a great course to walk. The fairways are tight, so be prepared.
Good Greens Brown Fairways
Course is short but challenging. Greens were in excellent (and slow) shape, but many fairways had browned-out spots. Took 5 hours to finish on a Saturday. If you are not a Columbia resident, wait for GolfNow deal.
I hate to say this, but...
I've played Fairway Hills countless times and used to work in Columbia, where I'd hit balls at the range about three times a week. I've never really had a bad experience there, but my last two vists have proved me wrong.
Let's see...
- They double charged us (my playing partner and myself) for fees.
- They teamed us with a single, when they told us we could go as a twosome.
- The foursome in front of us drove their carts on the green (yes, on the GREEN) and were only given a warning. Their pace of play was also incredibly slow.
- Greens were amazingly slow, looks like they hadn't been mowed in a week.
- Fairways were burnt out and not looking their best.
Add it all up and I'm not sure if I'll go back this year. What's sad is that this can be an amazing course, but what's the sense in having a Marshall if he does nothing to people who disrespect the course? There are plenty of other options out there, but I feel recommending Fairway Hills after the round I played yesterday wouldn't really be right.
I would give it another shot
The course layout was interesting and had personality. The greens and tee boxes were in ok shape considering. The fairways were brown and not in the best shape. This is not a long course playing from the white tee's, but the personality of the course kept me interested. I would not play this course without a golfnow discount. I would have been very disappointed playing at the regular non-columbia resident rate.
First time @ Fairway Hills
It was a nice experience for my fist time at this course.
It was particularly crowded at this time (4:10 PM Tee time) and had to wait to tee for at least the first 9 holes. It was woirthy the wait though, I am definetively coming back to this course.
you get what you pay for
Course was not ready for season yet. Grass on fairways was dead and with no sign of green anywhere, but for $27 with cart can't expect much.
Good irons track
Great fora tune up of your irons. tee shots are supertight. not much from for shot shaping. guess thats why its caled fairway hills.
Nice Track
1st time on this course, couldn't beat the deal $29.00. The fairways are still dormant and the greens aerated & slow so it took some time to get use to them. Played from the tips and found the course a bit challenging especially when your playing partners were new to the course as well. Staff were very friendly and the practice areas were decent (small) but usable. I hope to see more deals when the course is in better shape, not sure if it would be worth the asking price much better courses out there for the same price but time will tell. Highly recommend if your looking for a nice track with some difficulty, you have to be on your game for this par 70. Most important, I had a great time playing there!
Staff Friendliness
Staff: GOOD!! (Newer face)
Green: Bad!!(Too Slow)
Fairway: Good!! (Well cared)
Tee Box: Average!!(...)
Good
Staff was exceptional and very welcoming. A bit expensive for a municipal course but it was in good shape
