Par 3 17th Photo submitted by Golfermom94 on 10/28/2013
Nice Layout
Really enjoyed the layout. Its a shorter course but the layout forces layups and it plays longer than it really is. Quite a few hazards to keep you thinking. Long distance between some holes so get a cart.
Short, but Challenging
1st time playing here. Course was in great shape, tee to green! Stay in the fairway or you'll most likely lose your ball! Would definitely play there again.
Great Overall
Loved the Course, first time to play it. Loved the long and short par 3's and the 5's are a challenge. Definitely needs a beverage cart to drive around the course. Could have used several along the way. It was a hot one...
Out Of Towner Loved It!
Tees, fairways, and greens were in great condition. Fairly easy course - if I (lived and) played this course regularly, I would have my handicap down to a single-digit. Highly recommend this course.
Great day
Excellent day at golf. Booked our tee time the night before, very late,...Able to get a great rate...Course was in great shape...Would definitely play again...
Fairway Hills inspection
This course is fair as conditions with exception for bare fairway on the back nine. Overall value is not there for $55.00 And up and will not be recommended to others due to prices at present.
Nice greens and fairways
Bermuda fairways, bent greens in very good shape. Greens putted beautifully.
Very interesting layout.
First Time at Fairway Hills
Very good experience! Not a bad course at all and at an excellent price from golf now.
Great greens, not so with Fairways!
The entire staff was very friendly and informative. The practice area was very well maintained and the practice green "mirrored" the actual course greens. The course greens were in excellent shape, firm and fast!
The fairways on a couple of holes were in bad shape, but all in all, it was a good round.
I like to walk a course. This course is a tough one to walk, especially on the back nine, given the distance between green to tee on a couple of holes on the back.
Tougher than it looks
Overall, it is a fun track. It has 3 of the toughest finishing holes in the area. Don't be fooled by the short yardage, with 6 x Par 3's, it looks short on the scorecard, but it plays longer. The course is tight, and every hole threatens a double bogey or worse with an errant shot. The Par 5 number 2 is one of the most difficult (yet fair) Par 5’s in the area.
Bring a lot of golf balls, especially during the summer when the rough is up. Again, it is a fun course and worth your time. Check Golf Now or Groupon for good rates. They usually offer member rates (small discount) to miltiary if you ask for it.
The course is very walkable. However, there is one long walk in between holes 15 and 16. During the weekend, the course usually has a shuttle.
Not horrible!
I used to play this course a lot when I was a member at Hobbits Glen and it was closed for repairs many years ago. Not much has changed, its generally a short course with a lot of forced carriers over marsh areas. This can result in slow play as many golfers will not rest until they find their ball or 5 other lost balls. When I played it was not crowded so it wasn't a problem, the pace of play was good. Two fairways in particular were awful, 10 and 18 which I'm sure they are doing what they can to fix it, however knowing how the Columbia Association operates it may never be done. The food preperation is ridiculous as it always was at Columbia golf facilities. Bring a sandwich and some drinks because you can't count on being able to get anything at this course. All in all I had a nice round due mostly to the lack of other golfers. I booked my tee time through Golf Now and prepaid, $50.00 which is about right. I believe $62 is the regular rate which is way to high for this course. There are to many other better options available for less where the courses are in outstanding condition. I'd would only consider playing here again if I had a great deal and my options were limited.
Fairway Hills
Used to play here alot when I lived in the area years ago, decided to go May 15th. Some of the Tee boxes had little to no grass, and say atleast 7, maybe 9 of the fairways were burnt with very little grass to hit from. The greens were surprisingly not in bad shape, but for a course in the prime of spring to be so burnt out was a bit disappointing. The staff/starter were very helpful and friendly, doubt I will be going back anytime soon.
Still looking for grass!!!
I am not one to complain but I found the fairways at this golf course severely lacking grass. Where there was grass it was intermingled with a substantial amount of crabgrass and weeds. I will never play this course again!!!
Fairway Hills- Pace of play and course conditions problematic
Fairway Hills is plagued by slow play and problematic course conditions. On several occasions I have encountered groups of golfers who obviously had no clue about maintaining pace of play and proper golf etiquette. The greens are not well kept, very slow with numerous un-repaired ball marks.
Will be nice in a few weeks
Course was still in pre-season shape. The greens were just aerated and sanded and the fairways were still dormant. This course rewards those that can hit the ball straight and truly punishes any wayward shot. If you have trouble hitting the ball straight at times then you will lose lots of golf balls. Bring a lot of extra balls just in case your having trouble keeping it straight on the day that you play.
To cold haha
Price was great the weather not so much. No food was being served unfortunately
Good deal
Good deal for this weather condition and the golf course is in good condition.
Play it again.
Enjoyed the round. Course was ingreat shap for this time of year. Will be back.
Can't complain, but not great
I played on Nov. 12th. A bit cold weather and windy. The condition of greens was not good, too slow and not managed with a lot of ball marks. It might not be surprising to see a lot of fallen leaves all over the places in the middle of fall, but I felt it was too much.
I got a good discount through GolfNow.com, so I can't complain much.
Underrated
I had heard that Fairway Hills is "too short for the low handicappers and too difficult for high handicappers." I found the course to be challenging yet fair. The par-five #2 is a bear. The staff is very friendly and down-to-earth unlike their somewhat pretentious partner course over at Hobbit's Glen. It's a very difficult walking course with a couple tees close to a mile apart. The finishing three holes are a match for any course around.
