Driving range
Nice driving range has 3 greens and flags at 100, 150 and 200 yards what is nice
Nice overall course
When I Book the tee time You did not specify that course will be closed at 4 PM they overbooked it. The play was very slow. Our tee time was 1150 when we get to 11 hole we hadto bring the cart back in because it was 4 pm
Play Somewhere Else
One too many bad experiences is leaving me to never return to Fairway Hills.
I have played here several times and not once has the course been managed well. I have gone out many days, and different hours for that matter. One thing I have come to notice is that’s there is no rhyme or reason behind scheduling.
The pace is always wildly unpredictable with groups that make no sense for a decent round of play. You have singles behind foursomes, and foursomes behind singles playing several balls. I have witnessed even twosomes playing multiple balls a round slowing down pace significantly. There simply is no course etiquette, and it’s unclear if the starters/rangers are aware of this or even care.
What is clear is the favoritism/bias for seniors and members of the Columbia Association. These two groups get first class service and can walk right up to the tee. Oh yes. I have been bumped by these groups walking up with no time OR cutting in front of me despite me having an earlier time. There are even people pulling up and walking across the street and onto the tee box - without paying!
The course itself is another story and worth commenting on as well. There is goose poop just about everywhere, weeds, and fairways equivalent to a suburban front lawn that’s been unkept. If you don’t like people distracting you from your game, get used to it. The neighbors from the nearby apartment complexes love to loiter, litter and have their pets do what they wish on the course. Kids are smoking on the course, tossing pins, and damaging the greens.
After showing up for a tee time and given the green light to go play, I had someone holler at me to tell me I was going foo early. This was the last straw. The staff not only let another foursome go ahead of me, they paired me with another threesome who were nowhwere to be found. I turned around and went home.
Given all of this, the silver lining is that all of the corporate events I was planning and guests I had in the pipeline for the course have been moved to another venue. Further, I will make sure my network understands that I in no way do I support the course, and will be happy to recommend MANY other options in the surrounding area.
To anyone considering playing here, save your time, money, and dignity. Play somewhere that's worth it, in more ways than financially.
Mow
Lots and lots of grass clippings everywhere. Maintenance is not good.
Areas near the green are super hard to get out of. Rough is too thick which makes the course very difficult.
Course was too hard for me. In fairness, the three guys I played with stayed in the fairways better and seemed to be fine.
Took over 8 minutes for walkers to get from 15 to 16. Crazy.
Disappointing But Special Circumstances Taint Review
I’ve played Fairway Hills a few times and found it a fairly good challenge with a variety of holes. However, this time the first 9 holes were under construction (front 9 has had drainage problems), so could only play the much tougher back 9. In addition, the greens had been top dressed with too much sand and chemicals, making them unputtable. An alert that these changes were in effect would have been good so I could have chosen a different course. To sum up, course will be worth playing again but perhaps not until 2025.
What happened?
Play the course regularly. Played Tuesday and the course is in poor shape. Fairways burned, first cut on the greens appears dead, no sand trap maintenance and on and on
Stay away, not worth the money they charge
Greens are in rough shape
Have played here previously and it was in way better condition. Unfortunately the greens are currently in awful shape. Not sure if it’s from lack of rain but not worth the price for the shape the greens are in.
Poor All Around
Not worth the rate unless you belong to the Columbia Association or live very nearby. Course conditions below average, major pace of play issues especially when senior leagues are out, and subpar practice facilities with short driving range. Carts have GPS location and speed restrictions which further add to POP woes. Much better public courses in surrounding counties.
